Vampiro69 Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 What matches ended up surprising you in actually being good when they occurred? I was surprised that Vader vs The Bossman from Spring Stampede 94 was good Vader vs Undertaker Canadian Stampede 1997 was good as well What else has surprised you as being actually interesting to watch when you were expecting a crapfest?
DCMaximo Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Fall Brawl 97- Meng and the Barbarian vs Wrath and Mortis (Kanyon carries 3 men) Road Wild 98- Meng vs the Barbarian (not great, but a healthy **1/2, which is ** more than I was expecting)
Aero Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Also from Canadian Stampede, HHH vs. Mankind is pretty good, minus the double-countout ending. Brock vs. Undertaker (HIAC) from No Mercy 2002 And wasn't the Kane vs. Albert IC Title match from after KOTR 01 really good too? I've heard of that reaching ***1/2.
King Cucaracha Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Taker/Show from NWO 2003. Much better than it had right to be, although still not that great.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 ^----Took my pick Kane/HHH from Judgment Day 2001. Chain matches are almost never good, but this one was very entertaining.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Big Bossman vs Barbarian, Rumble 91 Ron Garvin vs Greg Valentine, Rumble 90
deancoles Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Tatanka & Smokin Gunns vs. Bam Bam Bigelow & The Headshrinkers, Summerslam 93 Sting vs. DDP, Nitro April 99 Why all the surprise over those Bossman matches? he was a good worker until his Big Bubba Rogers gimmick in 95.
Lil' Bitch Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 IMO and all of these are from last year: Lesnar / Show - Judgment Day Booker T / Christian & Nash / HHH - Insurrextion RVD / Christian - the ladder match Goldberg / HHH - Survivor Series RVD / Orton - Armageddon
Guest Ray Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Austin/Undertaker vs Billy Gunn/Road Dogg - Raw 1998?
Guest Choken One Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 I remember that one. Shawn/Sid. I really didn't think carrying that sack of shit beyond ** was possible but shawn went and made it ****. Bret never did anything that remarkable...I don't think Flair has either.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 Sids strengths: - Squashing opponents in 2 minutes. - Throwing smaller opponents around like pinballs. - Awesome powerbomb HBKs strengths: - bumping like a pinball - has good matches with larger workers - Has believable movset outside of punch against said workers. No wonder the match was good.
BHK Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Shawn/Sid I really didn't think carrying that sack of shit beyond ** was possible but shawn went and made it ****. Which match? Survivor Series or the Rumble?
LucharesuFan619 Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 D'Lo Brown vs. Mark Henry at I believe Unforgiven '99...whatever the show right after SummerSlam was. Henry pulled out some moves I didn't expect from him. It came off quite well, and did a good job of building off of Henry's heel turn at SS.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Austin/Undertaker vs Billy Gunn/Road Dogg - Raw 1998? I was at that show. It appened in Anaheim and I remember the kid next chanting Rocky Sucks the entire time. And uh... Stephanie McMahon vs Trish Stratus @ NWO '01
SamoaRowe Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Goldberg/Steiner from Fall Brawl 2000. Seriously, I'd say ***. Hmm... what else... Albert vs Kane after KOTR was good! I was still markish at the time, but I really got into the match.
tekcop Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 I just want to know why Vader/Taker & Vader/Bossman would be listed. Vader is THE shit and Bossman 'n Taker were/are perfectly fine workers. What would make anyone think those matches would suck? Anyways, Goldberg/Ogawa from Hustle 1. Universo 2000/Perro Aguayo Jr. from CMLL on Galavision. Konnan/Perro Aguayo from AAA WWC.
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Any Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show match.
Guest Choken One Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Shawn/Sid I really didn't think carrying that sack of shit beyond ** was possible but shawn went and made it ****. Which match? Survivor Series or the Rumble? series of course. Rumble was a let down...in front of his hometown, i'd expect Shawn to really go all out but it was a rather pedestrian ** effort...still among sid's best matches nontheless.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Bash at the Beach 1997: Glacier & Ernest Miller Vs. Wrath & Mortis. Watch it.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Twice Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Recently, WrestleMania XX's main event. I guess I was so pumped about Angle/Guerrero that I didn't pay much attention to this one. It delivered.
Art Sandusky Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Malenko/Scotty from Backlash 2000. Malenko destroys Scotty's leg for ten minutes and kills him dead with a super top-rope DDT, the match only loses points for Scotty hopping on the injured leg to do the worm. For WWE, a good **** match.
DCMaximo Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Shawn/Sid I really didn't think carrying that sack of shit beyond ** was possible but shawn went and made it ****. Which match? Survivor Series or the Rumble? series of course. Rumble was a let down...in front of his hometown, i'd expect Shawn to really go all out but it was a rather pedestrian ** effort...still among sid's best matches nontheless. According to SK, Shawn had serious flu at the time and nearly didn't make the match. Sid had to carry him, which explains why it didn't reach previous heights.
Guest DR PHIL Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I remember that one. Shawn/Sid. I really didn't think carrying that sack of shit beyond ** was possible but shawn went and made it ****. Bret never did anything that remarkable...I don't think Flair has either. The best I can think of for bret was dragging diesel to a couple of good matches but shawn pulled a better one out of him. As for flair, he allegedly dragged El Gigante of all people to a *** match at some point, which if true beats micheals achievement with sid anyday for mine.
Guest Choken One Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 there is no proven record of this match, it's really as far as we know, a phantom match.

Bret/Diesel at SS95 SMOKES any HBK/Diesel match by a good mile. Smokes HBK/Sid by a mile too.
Internet Warfare Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 I wasnt expected anything out of the triple threat Hardcore match at WM 17. So that gets my pic.
MillenniumMan831 Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 Savage/Duggan from MSG late 1989 . . . on CV's Mega Matches. Extremely fun match w/ a hot crowd and blows away the 1/90 SNME match.
