Guest Temet Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Making me register just to read good opinions on music and stupid HD threads. I was quite content just lurking too.
Black Lushus Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Black Lushus-sticking his penis into the ear of morons like Temet since 1984...
The Czech Republic Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Your post count is still zero at this time.
DerangedHermit Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 For some strange reason, I was thinking of Peter Griffin when I entered this thread. "We found a meatball in your vacuum." "Do you still have it?" "No..." "You bastards."
Guest Fook Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 You have to be a registered member to view HD threads? That's news to me.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I think you have to be a member to view anything on the board now.
Guest Fook Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 So if I log out I won't be able to enter any threads? Hmmm, I think I'll try that right now to make sure...
Slayer Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Making me register just to read good opinions on music and stupid HD threads. I was quite content just lurking too. I'm sure you'll have much to contribute here...
Dr. Tom Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I think you have to be a member to view anything on the board now. This is correct. We want to see if disabling guests from reading the board makes things faster during high-traffic times.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Hmm, I can understand the reasoning, but that means these lurkers will probably post, too -- got a bad feeling about this, Temet excluded of course...
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Well KKK that depends on who he thinks contributes good music opinions. Because if it's Choken he likes... *Brandishes bat*
{''({o..o})''} Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 And here I thought you got over your stupid bat thing.
IllustriousOne Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 And so far, disabling the guests has caused the board to run MUCH smoother.
Guest Fook Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Well what happens when they all just create accounts and lurk?
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Let's get rid of post counts. Seriously. I'm now of the opinion that post counts are useless.
Guest SP-1 Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 I like the idea of giving people random post counts. But the starting point must be 8 million.
Guest Fook Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Let's get rid of post counts. Seriously. I'm now of the opinion that post counts are useless. Agreed. We already took the first step by making posts not count in HD, so why not go all the way?
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 no i like my post count.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 Well what happens when they all just create accounts and lurk? Just what Josh said. Do a massive purge and then lock accounts for awhile too so they can't just re-register. Infact, I'm going to go check how many accounts there are with 0 posts right now since about 100 people have joined the board in the past week.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 30, 2004 Report Posted June 30, 2004 There's almost 300 people with 0 posts(or in Tack's case less) Over 150 of those came about in the last 2 days.
Guest Temet Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Well KKK that depends on who he thinks contributes good music opinions. Because if it's Choken he likes... *Brandishes bat* The name "Caputo" sounds like some sort of Pokemon character, so no.
KingPK Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I'd do what Ill did initially (look for people with 0 posts who have been members for at least two weeks) every two weeks. I mean, if you can't jump into a conversation at least once in a while, why be a member?
Jingus Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 There are plenty of people who want to just read and lurk without actually commenting on stuff. Hell, that's one of the most common pieces of advice given to newbies: keep your mouth shut and pay attention for a while, so you won't say anything you shouldn't. If we have the board set up so that you have to be a member to view it, it's terribly unfair to delete all the accounts of people who just want to read the threads.
chaosrage Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I'd do what Ill did initially (look for people with 0 posts who have been members for at least two weeks) every two weeks. I mean, if you can't jump into a conversation at least once in a while, why be a member? Uh, to read? So nobody can just read posts anymore? Would you really want to force posters like IB to post instead of lurk? And what if they just post on HD? Dumbest idea in awhile.
KingPK Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Hey just an idea. This board is big enough with enough of different topics to discuss that I would think everyone would find a subject they would like to talk about.
