The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I gotta go with Max on ATH. Stat Boy sucks, the new Disembodied Voice sucks, and I don't like the revolving Boston panelists that aren't Bob Ryan. I, Max is okay, but I still don't get why Max can mute people and not the impartial Now-Embodied Voice, that doesn't make sense. And Holley sucks. So I go with the old ATH.
starvenger Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Off The Record owns all. Get Zach Selwyn to host a clone of that and you've got a winner...
razazteca Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 What happen to Wilbon? Best Damn Sports Show Period > ATH Stat Boy
The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Author Report Posted July 1, 2004 Wilbon and Tony take big breaks in the summer, sometimes simultaneously. Ehhhh. Stephen A. Smith and Jackie MacMullan this July. Won't be pretty.
Guest Smues Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Wilbon and Tony take big breaks in the summer, sometimes simultaneously. Ehhhh. Stephen A. Smith and Jackie MacMullan this July. Won't be pretty. Dear god that might just be worse then Lebertard and McMullen last summer. (shudders). Give me Norman Chad and Bob Ryan.
Guest Showstoppa Icon Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I really dont like the format of I, Max, doesnt really make sense. StatBoy is just not entertaining at all, ATH w/ Max was my favorite and I think he had the better chemistry w/ guys like Mariotti and Woody Paige> Anyone know why Max left ATH or got let go anyway?
Damaramu Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Wait a minute? We're asking what's second best to PTI? Who decided PTI was the best? I hate that fucking show....
nogoodnick Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 PTI is definitely the best, at least when Tony and Wilbon are both on. I caught I max the other day and it just sucked. I liked the disembodied voice better when he was disembodied. I prefer stat boy over Max on ATH though. Not sure why, just do.
Guest Choken One Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I really think Zack Selwyn should take over ATH. Woody and Him would really work good together.
Guest Smues Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I really dont like the format of I, Max, doesnt really make sense. StatBoy is just not entertaining at all, ATH w/ Max was my favorite and I think he had the better chemistry w/ guys like Mariotti and Woody Paige> Anyone know why Max left ATH or got let go anyway? His contract was up. He wanted more money then ESPN wanted to pay him.
Precious Roy Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 PTI still rules, best sports show on TV for my money, nobody can touch their "skit" segments (mail bag, top 5 lists, good cop/bad cop etc.), plus they always get awesome guests for "5 good minutes" I loved Max on ATH, but since that show doesn't exist anymore I have to go with ATH hosted by Tony Reali as second best, it's still a very entertaining 30 minutes. The format rules and Woody Paige, Jay Mariotti, Tim Cowlishaw and JA Adande are great. The show is MUCH better when Bob Ryan is the Boston rep though, and I LOATHE that bald dude with the lisp from LA I think Kellerman is great but the I, Max format kind of sucks, they need to tweak it a bit. BTW, I love Wilbon, but Kornheiser and Ryan are awesome together!!
The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Author Report Posted July 1, 2004 The best ATH lineup is Max, Paige, Cowlishaw, Mariotti, Ryan. By the way, has Jay EVER missed a single day? The man never rests! Even Woody needs a day off now and then. By the way, on PTI: Five Good Minutes could go. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the program.
Precious Roy Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Maybe it's just me, but 5 good minutes is one of my favorite parts of the show. The interaction between Tony/Wilbon and the guest is always great and gives an impetus for more arguments between the hosts with the guest as the "straight man," plus they always get top notch analysts, athletes and coaches. It really adds to the overall format IMO. Maybe they don't need to do it every day just for the sake of having it (sometimes the guests are repetitive or weak), but they shouldn't ditch it completely.
The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Author Report Posted July 1, 2004 So maybe cut down on Five Good Minutes and add more Heads On Sticks and the like. Mail Time should always be the third segment.
Art Sandusky Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 ATH with Max was what got me watching these talking head shows in the first place.
Gert T Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Ireally liked the combo of Kornheiser and Screamin A. Smith. Very entertaining and Smith was toned down a tad.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Although my fav. week of ATH was with Zack, I am quite content with Tony running things. And ATH is much better than PTI, imo -- I can only take about 5-10 minutes of that show...
Black Lushus Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 aren't there 3 or for other threads discussing this topic?
alfdogg Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I don't like the woman from Boston, or JA Adande. Or that one gay-sounding (not that there's anything wrong with that) guy that was on there a couple times.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 The LA reps have grown on me since the last time we talked about this show. I give both a pass. I don't like that ESPN.com guy on there though...
King Kamala Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Too bad Zach works for the Game Show Network now. I assume none of you no that though. I only know it because there was a little blurb in the Sporting News or something like that.
Red Baron Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Off The Record. If you want a debate on any sport, watch that.
TheBigSwigg Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Too bad Zach works for the Game Show Network now. I assume none of you no that though. I only know it because there was a little blurb in the Sporting News or something like that. He's the color guy for extreme dodgeball. It's not that great. Actually, the show sucks.
C Dubya 04 Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Am I the only one who gets bored with any segment over a minute on PTI. I always flip to the Simpsons or something during 5 good minutes.
Star Ocean 3 Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I like Max's interviews much better than PTI. 5 good minutes is usually where I start to fall asleep. How do people like Bob Ryan? He doesn't talk enough, and isn't funny. Norman Chad + Kornheiser, please.
The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Author Report Posted July 1, 2004 I also like Norman Chad with Tony because poor Norman just gets beat up by Tony so much. Wilbon can't carry the show with a sub though.
razazteca Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 I can't wait until Norman Chad starts commentary for the World Series of Poker and try to defend it as a sport on PTI.
The Czech Republic Posted July 1, 2004 Author Report Posted July 1, 2004 They spent a segment arguing to what degree poker was not a sport. They were in agreement about it, probably because they were getting bumped by it. Tony: "The only thing good about that STUPID World Series of Poker crap is that it gives poor Norman Chad something to do."
