Layla from the MTV Unplugged CD.

Oh and Journeyman by Iron Maiden for a chnage of pace. Their first all acoustic song ever.

I'm pretty biased here but I'll will only use one Caputo

Keith Caputo-"New York City"

Just about anything off the Clapton Unplugged Album would do...esp Layla and Tears.

About a Girl-Nirvana is a personal favorite.

Counting Crows - Round Here

Alice In Chains - Brother

Alice In Chains - Got Me Wrong

My personal favorites.

Seconded. Great melody with really good lyrics. It's a song that any fan of music can appreciate.

While you are at it, check all the songs from Alice In Chains' Jar Of Flies and the Sap EP, you're likely to fall in love with most of the songs from that collection. Out of the 7 on Jar Of Flies, at least 5 are pure acoustic; and all 4 tracks on Sap are acoustic (excluding hidden track 5).

"Poor Tom" and "Gallow's Pole" by Led Zeppelin

"Something In The Way" and "Dumb" by Nirvana

Rolling Stones - Wild Horses. I looooove that song.

I second Nirvana - About A Girl.

That is all for the moment. And I think I'm the only person in the history of man who does not like Tears In Heaven.

robert johnson - "32-20 blues". done deadpan, frightening lyrics.

eric clapton - "running on faith" (unplugged). good slide guitar stuff, & clapton getting emotional is always good.

tom petty - "don't fade on me". not a great SONG, but a perfect trebly-acoustic sound with the bare 12-string guitars & whatnot.

neutral milk hotel - "two-headed boy". great imagistic lyrics.

bob dylan - "it's all over now, baby blue" (live 1966 version). greater imagistic lyrics.

velvet underground - "candy says". great nonimagistic lyrics, chilling sound.

cowboy junkies - "sweet jane". very dreamy, especially the refrain.

cat power - "satisfaction". sultry and disturbing delivery that completely changes the meaning of the song.

i tried to give you some variety there, but i think i failed.

Eagles - Hotel California: It is SO much better than the studio song.

I second Journeyman by Iron Maiden.

Alice In Chains: I Stay Away, Nutshell, Heaven Beside You, Down In A Hole are done well acoustically.

I'm pretty partial to One Thing by Finger Elven

Also Scared by The Tragically Hip.

Also Midsummer Day, The Messenger, and Pyschopomp by Tea Party are good choices.

I heard an acoustic version of "My Hero" by Dave Grohl that he did at a radiostation that was very tight. I think you can find it still on Kazaa at least.

I second Led Zeppelin's "Gallows Pole".

Also:

Kansas' "Dust in the Wind"

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' "Learning To Fly"

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' "Roll Another Joint"

Nirvana's "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam"

Nirvana's "Lake of Fire"

Nirvana's "Polly" (although the electric version is better)

Stealer's Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle With You"

The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes"

That's all I can think of for now.

As long as somebody does it right I wanna hear someone do 'Raining Blood', as long as it isn't that boring Tori Amos crap :headbang:

Friends - Led Zepplin

I also like many of the MTV Unplugged songs done by Pearl Jam, but Porch, Alive, and State of Love and Trust are among my favorites.

Black Label Society - "Another Spoke In The Wheel"

Black Label Society - "America The Beautiful" (more or less just Zakk playing it, but it sounds GREAT)

Black Label Society - "Blessed Hellride"

Foo Fighters - "Times Like These" (acoustic version, I believe it's a WAAF exclusive)

Shinedown - "Simple Man" (acoustic cover of Skynyrd's classic, also a WAAF exclusive, and one of the most heavily rotated songs)

Acid Bath - "The Bones Of Baby Dolls"

Acid Bath - "Scream Of The Butterfly" (at least I THINK it's all acoustic)

Heavens no. The bass is loaded with effects. Ditto with Dax's voice in Bones of Baby Dolls. They're not really mellow acoustic songs at all, although I've seen them classified as such a couple of times. They might use an acoustic guitar in them, but "Scream of the Butterfly" is a dismal descent through every lurking stinking horrible thought a person can have. As frigging awesome as Acid Bath is, that's not something to put on a cd with Stealer's Wheel. Maybe if you were making a cd of primarily acoustic songs by heavy metal bands, then yeah, they're the first and last tracks of the mix.

Seconded. Also, didn't they just add that to their re-issue? Not the AAF version, but I think they re-recorded it in a studio for the release.

Also, if you can find anything from Aerosmith's 1990 Unplugged session on MTV, they do some great stuff on that one, a lot of their older stuff(Walking the Dog, One Way Street, Seasons of Wither, etc.).
