2004 MTV Video Music Awards Nominees

Recommended Posts

Because when crap like this is the stuff that's up for awards, then you know the downward spiral is starting to get out of control.

I find Jay Z getting nominated for numerous awards to be less alarming then when Backstreet Boys, Spears, and NSync were battling out 3 years ago.

Jay Z I have no problem with, as I personally think he's quite superior to most MTV rap they play--espically the overpimped Eminem. But look at the best group video......

Best Group Video

No Doubt, "It's My Life"

D12, "My Band"

Hoobastank, "The Reason"

Maroon 5, "This Love"

Good Charlotte, "Hold On"

Sigh..... My Band will win it--which is the worst single of the past 20 years.....

I have to admit that from a purely video standpoint, there are some intriguing choices. Actually, the music isn't too bad, if not my cup of tea. The only really weird thing is the White Stripes being nominated for the breakthrough award. I mean, haven't they already been "through" for a while now?

You people do realize it's the videos being nominated and not the songs, correct.

to further add to this, you people also realize this IS mtv we're talking about here? why act so surprised about what videos get nominated year after year? someone mentioned BSB, Nsync and Britney being all over the awards a few years back...well DUH, they WERE the hottest thing going at the time, why be surprised that that would happen?

Considering that "Yeah" video by Usher/Lil' John features one of the most repetative, overused, tired, old, boring gimmicks for a hip hop video, you have to wonder if it would have been given any more then a blip on the radar screen if it hadn't been for Dave Chapelle's Lil' clips.

You're a very, very white person aren't you?

That song bumps- and thinking that Dave Chapelle has ANYTHING to do with Lil Jon's sucess means you just don't understand hip-hop music.

My Band is actually a pretty catchy tune and a somewhat funny video...no way in hell is that the worse single of the past 20 years...you seem to be forgetting avril lavinge...

and yeah, going with Dids, Lil Jon's been hot for quite a few years now with songs like Get Low and Bia Bia...Dave Chappelle had nothing to do with that, he was just dogging on him because of how succesful he was at the time as most sketch comedies do...

EDIT: in fact, and I may be wrong, but I believe the first couple of Lil Jon sketches aired BEFORE Yeah came out...

Obviously I am not referring to the song itself, rather the video. The video consists of guys riding around in a car and dancing in a club with lots of bright colorful lights going on in the backround.........Sounds like the same fucking video I have had to witness over the past ten years. There is nothing "Best" about it, except maybe "Best imitation of the last guy who did this same exact gimmick for a video" category.

Oh and for the record at best Lil' John deserves only to be thrown in the "Funny because it's not supposed to be funny" genre of rap, where every song is basically about the same two or three subjects, has about two lines of lyrics repeated over and over again, and features a bunch of , "yeaaaaaaaaaaahs" and "okaaaaaaaays" over and over enough to make the entire album mundane halfway through track 2. Like I said, Funny stuff, but mainly because he thinks people are supposed to take him serious as an artist rather then the comedy act he is.

It's awesome hype music, you can't deny that.

I will concede to that. Like I said, what little I have heard, I almost have to enjoy for the sheer comedic factor to the music, but never would I take the guy serious as an "artist" It is just generic dance club/100,000 watt stereo music.

i will tell you this, NoCal, not sure how often you hit the dance club scene, but nothing gets the bitches out on the dance floor faster than Get Low or Salt Shaker, both Lil Jon produced songs...as goofy as the dude is, he knows how to get chicks to dance...

Mike isn't sharp enough to realize that Lil' Jon isn't ever a rapper. He makes the beats dude... and producers are always yelling over their tracks. He's just louder than Pete Rock and Puffy were.

"Put Your Hood Up" was my first experience with Lil' Jon back in late 2001/early 2002. Awesome stuff.

Quite the choice Lil Jon song..... I first got my Lil Jon cherry popped in 99/2000ish with Bia Bia

I donb't think I've ever heard a Lil Jon song, and I am rather happy about that. I can avoid shit. I've never heard it, yet I know its shit. I have that innate physic genius.

Only two of those videos are actually good, I think: Jay-Z's "99 Problems" and Kanye West's "All Falls Down." That I happen to like both songs is a plus; usually, unless the video is really well done/creative/etc., no matter how good the song attached to it is, I can't stand it.

I actually think the Hoobastank video is entertaining. If only because it's a like a very short crime film.

99 Problems is A- a fantastic song and B- a cool vidoe.

"All Falls Down" is both of the same, plus it has Stacy Dash!!

He's like a hype man/producer hybrid. Still no Flava Flav though...

For "Best Group Video", my pick is No Doubt. I just dig that vid.

Lil Jon's crowning achievement is "Throw it Up" which uses the score from Requiem for a Dream. It's ridiculously awesome.

Pretty horrible show all around. Nothing big happened like in years past (Britney-Madonna kiss, Eminem going off on Triumph, Michael Jackson's surprise appearance, etc.), and the only reason they moved it to Miami this year is because of the goddamn Republican National Convention.

Many noticeable faces were missing this year (not saying I like some of these artists): Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Eminem (who's teaser for his fourth album came on aftert he first segment), Maroon 5, half of Linkin Park, 50 Cent, Evanescence, Snoop Dogg, among others.
