LOST

Recommended Posts

You guys suck. I want so badly to know what's going to happen, but the few times I've ever read spoilers, for anything, I've always regretted it. It's going to be a long 10 days. Perhaps I need to stay out of any Lost discussions on the boards I go to so I don't succumb to temptation.

I've been kinda thinking the same thing as the season has gone. I kinda miss when the stroytelling was about discovering things on the island or just finding out about the island in general....but I really don't think there's much to discover anymore. I think the only things we can really find out is just about the island in general. Also this season has really been all about the characters, while the island and the happenings on it has been placed in the backround, but now it seems we're finally getting back to finding out more stuff about the island as it seems that the season finale will put more focus on Ben and Locke moving the island and maybe Locke discovering more about it, which I'm really looking forward to.

I disagree that there's not much to discover anymore ... there's an infinite amount of stuff to discover, it's just up to the writers to come up it it and present it in an interesting fashion. Not to mention the countless things that they've introduced and then left unexplained: The story behind the 4-toed statue; the history of the island; more about the history of Dharma and/or the Others; what happened to Rousseau's team; the food drops (who's dropping them, and for whom?) ... not to mention the "big picture" stories of the numbers, the healing powers of the island.

You're right, I forgot about the things that have been shown and unexplained. Espically that 4 toe statue but it seems with all the stuff that is going on, explaining things like the 4 toe statue is going to take some time to get to. Maybe during season 5 if we get more focus on the island.

So since there is still a few more things than I remembered that we need to find out about the island or just unanswered things that haven't been explained yet...let's make a list. There's been so much going on now, it's kinda hard to remember things like that, so I'll start.

-How is the island going to be moved?

-What's the deal with the 4 toe foot statue?

-Where have the others been hiding all this time?

-How did the Black Rock get stuck in the middle of the island? (I can't remember if this was already answered or not.)

-Dharma history?

-What happen to Rousseau's team? (Though I have a feeling we'll never know what excatly happen or it'll be blamed on the sickness that Desmond got when he traveled away from the island.)

-Does the island actually have healing powers?

-What do the numbers actually mean?

-The food drop?

-Who or what actually controls Lostzilla?

Toby, you're a genius! That is what the sickness was that Danielle talked about- the time lapses and eventual death (brain aneurysm?) that comes from it. They did come to the island on a boat, after all. and we all saw how people were affected when trvaeling via boat or chopper when they weren't following the right coordinates (which Rousseau's crew would have known nothing about). I'm sure that, to the uninitiated, the affected would appear to be suffering from dementia or some other type of serious mental disorder.

Dandy, I do not recall reading that here, but I easily could have missed it.

And Danielle didn't get sick because her baby was her constant?

I didn't think about that. I guess it depends on where and when she went back in time. Maybe somehow, Danielle was not affected. I don't know. There are a lot of potential holes in this theory.

-Where have the others been hiding all this time?

Already answered. Ben was supposed to meet all of the others at "The Temple" and they were lead there by Richard. This has not been addressed all season, but keep in mind not a lot of time has passed on the island this season.

-Who or what actually controls Lostzilla?

Well - we already saw Ben send it into motion.

"The Temple" isn't the same place as "The Orchid" is it? Have we actually seen "The Temple"? And while you're right, we did see Ben send Lostzilla into motion, does he actually have control over it or does Jacob and Ben was just able to get permission to use Lostzilla for protection?

It wasn't answered when I asked...obviously I know now.

I can't wait for Richard and The Others backstory. Who knows how long they'll wait to do it, but it should be a good one

Scroby, that's a good list of questions ... unfortunately, it's just the tip of the iceberg of shit that they've presented and then abandoned. The Survivor Sucks board has a thread that's like 36 pages long of questions, some of which have been answered but many (most?) are still out there.

The thing that pisses me off, and I don't have the source to reference, is that TPTB have already said that some things won't get answered, and the numbers - if my memory serves me correctly - is one of those things. They gave some shitty excuse that the real answer would be a disappointment if it were explained, so it'd be better to NOT explain them and let people imagine what they want. They gave a random reference to Star Wars & the Force as reasoning. Regardless, it leaves me nervous that a question that dominated the first few seasons is going to be swept under the rug.

I thought the numbers were already explained online or something? Like they were a code to the end of the world or something?

That's another thing I hate about today's internet age. When things from shows are explained on some website as an "extra" rather than on the f'n show.

I think you're right, Dama, that the numbers were "revealed" via an online game, but I thought that those games were parallel stories rather than actual parts of the show.

Even if it's the latter, and those games are part of the show, I think the producers have an obligation to at least reference what they mean on the actual show. Some of us don't play "alternate reality games" for the TV shows that we watch.

Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...awesome.

(sorry, since there's so many characters now, I lose track of names or forget names that haven't been mentioned in such a long time really easily.)

I DEMAND that we see experimentation on the island with a mysterious green ooze and maybe event a giant snapping turtle and wolf that call Ben "Mama".

...And Kevin Nash as Super Shredder.

I want two pieces of broken tube with "RMA" and "DHA" on both ends and a hugely revealing scene with.....hmmm....let's say Locke revealing it to Sawyer, Hurley, Jack and Sayid.

I remembered where I saw that Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse talked about the numbers; I'm too lazy to search out the original source, but here's the c&p from another board:

We keep a list of unanswered questions, and we will be trying to answer most of those. Obviously, mystery is a part of life, and mystery is a part of the show. I guess we'll all have to see at the end of the day how satisfied people are, but it is our intention to try to wrap things up. I don't know if the show will become simpler, but hopefully in the wrapping up of these questions, it will be satisfying.

DL: There are some questions that are very engaging and interesting, and then there are other questions that we have no interest whatsoever in answering. We call it the midi-chlorian debate, because at a certain point explaining something mystical demystifies it. To try and have a character come and say "Here is what the numbers mean," actually makes every usage of the numbers up to that point less interesting.

You can actually watch Star Wars now and when Obi-Wan talks about the Force to Luke the first time we hear him, it loses its luster because subsequently the Force has been explained as, sort of, little biological agents that are in your blood stream. So you go, "Oh, I liked Obi-Wan's version a lot better," which in the case of our show is "The numbers are bad luck, they keep popping up in Hurley's life, they appear on the island."

CC: I heard that Obi-Wan had actually experienced the numbers. That's actually a big secret that's now been revealed.

DL: But if you're watching the show for a detailed explanation of what the numbers mean-and I'm not saying you won't see more of them-then you will be disappointed by the end of season six.

FYI - next week before the 2-hour finale, ABC is rerunning part 1 at 8:00 with "brand new footage".

I believe the footage helps explain who the eight were that initially survived the crash, so you can see who the O6 tell who 'died'. If you want to know, it's

Boone, Libby, and Charlie...leaving Hurley, Jake, Kate, Sun, and Sayid, with Aaron then being born as the 6th. I think they mention something about amnesia to explain why none of them know Libby's last name (I mean, she had it after bumping her head during the crash and couldn't remember it)

I wonder if there is any significance to the ones who they say survived the crash, but died on the island. It seems random to say that 8 survived the crash, but then 3 died on the island. Unless it was just to make it seem more realistic that some would die on a deserted island.

I'd almost say there has to be, if only because I can't see why Jin wouldn't be named as one of the ones who survived for a while. Considering Sun's pregnancy and the timelines involved, why did they say he died on the day of the crash, and didn't survive to get Sun pregnant on the island? Just seems like that woulda been simpler.

I can't remember the name, but did they ever explain how the man from the hot air balloon was killed and then buried? Henry Gail was it?

I thought that they had just said he died upon the crash and Ben stole his identity. I don't think that they went any further into it than that, and that explanation may have come from Ben, so of course it has to be taken with a grain.

Nope, was never officially explained, just from the mouth of Ben, who was later found to be lying anyway. I think I read somewhere, maybe even on this board, that Henry Gale was going to become important later on in LOST. Not sure how true that is, but it would be nice to get some explination about him, and his big smiley Hot Air Balloon.

LOST on tonight isn't it?
