LOST

Recommended Posts

Shannon hasn't come back to life. Neither has Ana-Lucia, Arzt, Libby, Mr. Eko or Tom. I see no reason why Boone would be given the pass here.

Off-island is another story but one thing this show has been consistent on is that those killed on the island are dead.

I dunno, am I being anal here? What do other people think?

I'm of the same mind, but maybe even moreso. I've never, ever watched Lost for the plot. Always felt like a bunch of rather arbitrary teases and swerves in the X-Files mode, something designed more to keep the marks wondering what's going to happen next week than actually providing a storyline which was satisfying now. What I watch it for is a great cast playing a bunch of fine characters. I watch it just for seeing Locke, Sawyer, Hurley, Ben, and everyone else just interact with each other. (Which has the added side effect of often pissing me off when they kill a long-running character I liked watching.) That's the entire reason I tune in, to see these fun people. So I could not give the tiniest shit about trying to predict or fantasy book what comes next on a show where it often seems like they're just making up the Island plot twists as they go along.

I miss Mr. Eko.

And the video is down.

Well, I just got this email...so it seems DharmaWantsYou was a big waste of time.

Namaste.

I am pleased to announce that registered recruits can now log in and download your personalized Volunteer Assessment Dossier outlining your full test results as well as your position within the Dharma Initiative.

I want to personally congratulate you on behalf of everyone at the Dharma Initiative for your hard work and diligence during our testing process.

We hope that you are happy with your results. We certainly are. The tests were extremely challenging and the aptitude and excellence displayed far exceeded our expectations.

Now that you are in possession of your results I am sure you are asking the obvious question: what's next?

Our plan was that together we would commence a glorious adventure: the revival of the Dharma Initiative using the myriad talents of all our amazing new recruits. We imagined not just fulfilling long abandoned goals but taking the Dharma Initiative to a new level of greatness as an organization promoting the peaceful social and technological advancement of all humankind.

Then the financial crisis struck.

Sadly, our benefactors were not immune to this crisis. In fact, unconfirmed reports suggest that much of the money designated for the work of the new Dharma Initiative was tied up in highly leveraged mortgage derivatives. This, however, cannot be confirmed because, I am sorry to report, the principals representing the benefactors - my employers - have gone missing. Based on bills still coming into our office we believe they are somewhere in South America.

This stunning reversal of fortune has forced us to abandon our ambitious plans. In fact, absent this funding, the Dharma Initiative was forced to make the only sensible decision we had available: we sold the Dharma Initiative to the television show LOST.

While this might strike some of you as a shock, the reason for this was not simply that they were the only bidder. As the only remaining Dharma Initiative employee who had not fled the country, I felt that at the very least the show would be able to keep the spirit of the Dharma Initiative alive and in the public consciousness until such time as a reversal of the reversal of our economic fortunes occurs.

It is with a heavy heart that I must bid you farewell. Despite my fervent commitment to the mission of the Dharma Initiative, the realities of a broken marriage, heavy casino debt and some unfounded police charges have required that I change my present circumstances. It is with great excitement that I can inform you of my pending senior sales management job at a large multi-brand auto dealership in Dubai. I have enjoyed our brief association more than I can ever express, and if you are ever in the Middle East and need a car, please e-mail me for a special "Dharma rate".

In the meantime, you will hear shortly from LOST showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. They will explain to you their future plans for the Dharma Initiative and how these plans might affect you.

Thank you again, personally, for your unflagging commitment and support. I hope our paths will one day cross again. In the meantime may the spirit of the island guide you.

Namaste.

Hans Van Eeghen

The Dharma Initiative

Some note-worthy items from a recent interview with Cuse and Lindelof.....

- They consider storylines from the likes of Michael and Libby to be totally wrapped up but said they aren't done with Rosseau and Walt. No mention of an Ecko return.

- Wouldn't confirm or deny that Jin is dead but did confirm that we haven't seen the last of him.

- Said that Christian Shephard will play a fairly big role in season five.

- Confirmed that they'll be focusing more heavily on the backstory of the freighter crew and how they came together.

- Said that for those of us expecting Desmond and Penny to live happily ever after that it ain't happening.

If we're beleving what the wedding ring lady said to Desmond it was his destiny to end up on the island saving the world so the idea that he has to go back/is forced back is certainly possible.

I can see the importance of the survivors/island totally overshadowing all romances and relationships in the next few seasons. Lost isn't the type of show I'm expecting a 'hold hands and walk into the sunset' ending from so I'm all for it.

And how is Libby wrapped up in anyway? That's just cruel.

Hey now she's still running off that same hotness she had on Titus, she's got at least 2-3 years left, one quick flashback explaining her story, maybe a hot-tub scene tying it all together.

I just don't like the idea that a lot of the overwhelming coincidences will be just written off as such. She appeared in more than one major character's backstory so I think she warrants some tying up.

Of course Desmond and Penny aren't happy ever after. Ben promised Charles Widmore that he's going to kill his fucking daughter.

And I love that about him.

No one gets happy moments on this show for more than an episode or two

The price of the BR actually dropped for this season. Amazon has the DVD set for $37 and the BR set for $50, so yay, only an extra $13.

I'll be getting the BR set since the Season 3 BR was amazing. Even if the new set was an extra $30, I'd still be getting the BR instead of DVD.

I managed to score Lost S4 on Bluray for $49.99 CAD today at Bestbuy. This is really surprising to me considering the still ridiculously overpriced S3 on Bluray which is nearly $100. Granted S4 is a half season and all that I was still not expecting to see it any lower than $65.

I got the BR set for $55. I'm one of those nitpicky DVD collectors, so of course I was a little disappointed that the set didn't come in one of those book cover style cases like Season 3. The slipcase that replaces it is really cool, though.

Is there a retailer exclusive bonus disc for Season 4? Season 1 & 2 had a bonus disc at Best Buy. Season 3 was at Walmart.

The Sunday ads for Best Buy, Target, and Circuit City didn't mention anything. I went to two different Walmarts looking for it and neither had it. They weren't sold out, it was as if it wasn't released yesterday.

If there's no bonus disc, I'm leaning towards waiting until I get a BR player (which I can't get until I get an HD-TV).

Um...no. Last season I found the Oceanic 6 storyline to be not too entertaining. I want to see what happens more on the island with Locke and Sawyer off the island than Jack and Hurley
