Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 When the work day is dead and the boss ain't in, I YouTube matches. GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Titles: Mistuharu Misawa & Ogawa -VS.- KENTA & Naumichi Marufuj Decent tag match. I liked the story I saw here, as it started off with KENTA and Marufuji proving that they were at the same league as Misawa and Ogawa, and Ogawa holding them at bay while Misawa rested in between tag breaks. Really, this match built Ogawa. I don't even know the story behind it or even the date, but Ogawa was made to look like the star here by essentially controlling the match. Starts off with KENTA and Marufuji trying to prove they're worth a damn to the legend Misawa, and then Misawa trying to prove (and successfully so) that he can keep up with his younger, faster opponents. Bryan Danielson & "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards & Bison Smith -VS.- KENTA & Akitushi Saito & Ricky Marvin Dunno the date of the show (2/12?), but it was billed on YouTube as Bryan Danielson's first Pro Wrestling NOAH match. Solid match, but this and the other match had two things I really don't care for in tag matches: one-sidedness. I don't mind the build-up to the hot tag, but I do mind when one team dominates save for a few sparce comebacks by the other team that either lead to the finish or just make it so it's not a complete squash. Good to see Eddie Edwards getting good publicity (I remember when he was just a local indy guy with baggy pink pants, feuding with no-name's in NECW), though. He's gonna be a fucking star one day. He can bump, sell, wrestle very solid...I'd say he's more likely to become a Jericho-style star rather than Alex Shelley is, as far as today's indy workers. Marvin constantly attacking Bison while he's legal and Bison's on the apron was entertaining, as was a few of the clothesline trade-off's between Bison and Saito. Danielson...he was actually pretty "meh" in this match. Hit a NICE suicide dive to KENTA, bending him backwards over the guardrail (pretty sick fucking spot), and the Cattle Mutilation he got Marvin in was vicious (looked like Danielson was flapping his wings, which made the move look even more vicious and must've legit hurt like a bitch). KENTA was also pretty "meh" in this one, looked a lot better in the other match.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 I just watched the Triple-H/Kevin Nash HIAC and to be honest I thought it was pretty damn enjoyable. Sure there weren't any major spots with people flying off the cell but I thought it was better for once that way. Coming off of so many where they all escaped the cell and fought on the roof before doing some sick bump, well it was nice to see the cell actually mean something. It also told a good story in my opinion although I didn't see a need for Foley (maybe he needed some money or maybe they just wanted some kind of bump into the cell which he did provide). King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Autumn Navigation 2006 Naomichi Marufuji vs. KENTA Baring in mind, I'm fairly new to Puro, I bought my first NOAH DVD specifically for this and it didn't disappoint. Marafuji coming up short on the Moonsault over the barricade and landing throat-first on the top of the barricade, busting KENTA open in the process is one of the craziest things I've seen. The fact they continued on from that to put on such a great match speaks volumes. Also, watched Supercard Of Honor today. The Dragon Gate six-man is an amazing spectacle, but as a match I actually preferred AJ Styles & Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries & Jack Evans.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2007 Yuji Nagata/Kurt Angle vs. Giant Bernard/Travis Tomko It's a decent match, but nothng special. Angle sells more than you'd think for a big name making his debut. He looks fine enough, nothing that bad, though he botches an Angle Slam on Bernard at the finish. mysterious_w 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2007 Naomichi Marufuji vs. KENTA First KENTA match I've seen. Absolutely awesome. Super stiff kciks and Tiger Superplexes for the win. Takeshi Morishima vs. KENTA Second KENTA match. KENTA is still awesome. I may have not seen a lot of ROH, but how is this flabby pasty guy with the worst haircut ever champ? Clothesline, side-on suplex, clothline, side-on suplex over and over and over. This guy was approaching Khali-like move repetition. Plus a weak finish, KENTA stands straight up from one suplex, so obviously the exact same move again will logically keep him down for the pin.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2007 KENTA vs. SUWA SUWA is my new favourite person. The fact he happily threw his GHC Junior Heavyweight Title shot in a minute and a half, by hitting KENTA in the head with a metal case twice in front of the referee, in Japan no less, and came off looking the BETTER for it says it all. The 'actual' match was pretty good too.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Monday Night Raw: Ladder Match - Jeff Hardy vs. Undertaker An underrated ladder match IMO and maybe in the Top 5 if you prefer the story based ones over the spot infested ones. Jeff kills himself on several spots, takes a straight ass kicking while selling it all like he's getting mauled by a grizzly bear, and Taker does his job of being the intimidating attacker. Also included another brutal chairshot by Hardy (Jeff seems to throw great chairshots... This match, vs. Brock, maybe in one of the TLC's) although the ending didn't hold up much compared to seeing it for the first time but it was still effective. Reminded me a bit of the HBK/Taker HIAC but without the truly crazy bump.
Si82 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2007 WWE Championship I Quit Match: John Cena vs. JBL - Judgment Day 2005 I watched this match for the second time today and it still ranks up as one of Cena's best matches. I didn't know if it would due to the gimmicky nature of the brawl. But the high spots and blood loss added up to a dramatic match. Not only that but the crowd loved Cena. It's kinda odd to look at now considering the hate the guy gets in some places. Good stuff.

At the time, the WWE Champion would float among shows and a Triple Threat WWE Title match was scheduled for ppv a couple weeks later between Taker/Rock/Angle. This would have been a perfect opportunity to convey the ANYTHING can happen environment by having Hardy win the title. He could take it to SD that week, be goaded into a title match by Angle, lose it, and make the Vengeance ME a 4-Way. Rock would still win the title and Taker can cream Hardy every week for a year for all anyone would care but the fans and Hardy would always have that moment. And I'm not even a Jeff Hardy fan. Timmy8271 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2007 Chris Hero vs Trik Davis 1/12/06 IWA Mid South I've been watching a lot of IWA Mid south lately. It's growing into one of my favorite promotions besides Chikara and Smackdown. In this match, the younger Trik Davis takes on the veteran, Chris Hero. Hero might not be the best wrestler int he world, but he make make the little things so damn great. What even makes this match better is Colt Cabana is on the announcing team. Trik is booked like he has no chance but Hero gives him some offense. Hero is very good with submissions and wearing down your opponent which is very rare these days in indy wrestling. Hero wins with the Boston Crab. Good match with a iffy crowd and some good booking.
TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2007 John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam, One Night Stand 2006. I watched this on Youtube. The crowd for this match was out of this world. Although I didn't get two things: Why did Edge come out of nowhere and spear Cena; and why was Heyman allowed to count the pinfall?

Guest The Greek Physique Report post Posted June 23, 2007 Hi, new guy here. A few years back I went on a buying and trading binge and ended up with a roomful of tapes and every so oftenI pop one in. I dunno where I got this one, but CM Punk seems to be so popular right now that looking at his career would certainly be an interesting experiment of sorts on the evolution and development of pro-wrestler who could one day end up a hall of famer. I'm not sure where I am going with this sudden CM Punk-markiness, but it might be an interesting ride. Best of CM Punk 1. CM Punk & Colt Cabana vs. Ace Steele & Danny Dominion 2. CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana (Iron Man Match) 3. CM Punk vs. Chris Hero 4. CM Punk vs. Ace Steele 5. CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana vs. Chris Hero 6. CM Punk vs. Micheal Shane 7. CM Punk vs. Suicide Kid 8. Gauntlet Match: CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana vs. Ace Steele vs. Chris Hero 9. CM Punk vs. Road Dogg 10. CM Punk vs. Tracy Smothers vs. Sabu 11. CM Punk vs. Eddie Guerrero I don't need to comment on the matches. It's all IWA-MS stuff and if I am wrong lemme know. I see his charisma and his ability to connect with the crowd as a heel as his biggest success watching these matches. It should be interesting to note that the Second City Saints are all now in WWE. I'd like some feedback on what Punk was considered at this time, other then from what I gather a popular and also hard-working indy wrestler. What did people/promoters see in him that got him signed to ROH and TNA and eventually WWE. Also, is there any Lunatic Wrestling Federation footage on the scene that anyone can point me towards? Guest The Greek Physique Report post Posted June 25, 2007 APW Chickfight 4 Bonus Match Cheerleader Melissa vs. Mercedez Martinez vs. MsChif I'm burning this torrent onto a disc and left off the bonus match so I watched it.... and I can't help but think how all three of these women would be awesome on my TV for free every week. They brawl around the building, they lay in nasty forearms, do great submissions, take nasty bumps, and would blow away almost every WWE woman on that roster. Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2007 Just watched Canadian Stampede, and I have to say that it was one great PPV. The brawl between Makind and HHH throughout the PPV was nice. However, I really enjoyed Taka v The Great Sasuki - that was great, something not really seen in the WWF at that time.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I've been download quite a bit with my crappy 56k connection and transferring my tape collection to DVD's so I've watched quite a bit or wrestling lately. Here's some recent stuff. Lou Thesz vs. Rikidozan for the NWA World Title 10-13-57 This is my first time seeing either guy actually wrestle and I absolutely loved it. I've always imagined Thesz as this stoic figure so watching him play coward heel in Japan was fun. The style difference compared to now is huge. I counted three full bumps in the match and each one involved the end of one of the three falls. I don't want to give away the ending just in case someone wants to watch this but I'll just say that Thesz's selling of Rikidozan's headlock that built to the finish was so awesome. I've never seen anything quite like it. According to the guy I downloaded this from, these two had a 60 minute draw the week before. I'd love to see that. Oh yeah, the video starts with clips of Rikidozan jogging with his students behind him (including one who's a head taller than the rest...), visiting America, and meeting Thesz and his wife at their home. The Funks vs. Stan Hansen & Terry Gordy 8-31-83 First of all let me start by saying that I adore Terry Funk and worship Hansen but I very literally can't stand Dory Funk Jr. I've never seen a match involving him that he didn't drag down someway and this is no exception. This is Terry's first retirement match so he's all riled up and awesome, Hansen just wants to beat the shit out of someone, Gordy's the cocky punk gaijin who wants to make a name for himself by beating the legendary Funk brothers, and Dory just wants to no sell everything and twist somebody's knee--slowly. Sadly, Dory spends most of the time in the ring for his team since they obviously want to build to the big Terry's retirement match hot tag. Hansen and Terry Funk are so awesome that nothing can drag this down. Crowd just goes apeshit for pretty much anything in this match, too. The Great Sasuke vs. Ultimo Dragon for the 8 Crown Titles 10-11-96 This is a rematch of the J Crown tournament final where Sasuke won the titles. I hate how almost all NJPW-style junior matches start. There's a bunch of random mat work that's obviously only there to fill time. You throw in a "Ultimo stands on his head and Sasuke is scared" comedy spot and one of those "run the ropes and miss a bunch of moves" indy respect standoff spot and I figured I'd hate this. Then Ultimo hits a brainbuster out of nowhere and shit gets serious. Sasuke is so great as the underdog champion facing against the more skilled Dragon. Ultimo outwits and beats on Sasuke for a minute or two until he gets caught with a few big shots himself. Ultimo finally says screw this and murders the champion with a top rope hurancanrana and a running powerbomb for the finish. And hey! There's Rey Misterio in the ring for some celebratory hugs. Actually this kind of reminds me of the 8 Crown match betwen Dragon and Rey except Sasuke got in more offense and Dragon had to work harder to keep Rey down. mysterious_w 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2007 I want to post in this thread all the time, but I reckon my memory isn't good enough to watch something a few hours before then post here. But seeing as I'm watching Cyberslam 97 and the 2nd match is about to start, I'll post a few match reviews. Chris Chetti vs Little Guido I've seen a couple of Guido matches in the original ECW, and loads of him getting squashed in the new one. He's alright in my book, neither love him or hate him. All I know of Chris Chetti is that he's Taz's cousin, never seen him wrestle. Chetti gets jobber entrance. Tommy Rich cuts a promo about being Italian, and JT Smith is MIA. Had he left the company by this point? A "We want JT" chant starts up, I want him too, I love the crazy botching fool. Chetti hits a frankensteiner early on for a 2 count, while Tommy interferes constantly. Guido comes back on the offence, getting some shots in along with a gut wrench rib breaker. Chetti sells a suplex likes he broke his back, then gets tossed outside so Rich can dump him nuts first onto the guardrail. After getting tossed back into the ring, he gets hit with some chops and a sweet powerslam. Guido stays on top with some leg drops and scoop slams, getting more 2 counts. After ducking a clotheline and hitting a spinning heel kick, Chetti goes for another frankensteiner but gets powerbombed. Guido gets another 2 count, then after Rich encourages him, goes for a top rope kneedrop. Chetti moves, hits a rolling cradle, and picks up the win. 5:46 Chris Chetti beats Little Guido with a rolling cradle ** - Guido is good and hits some nice power moves we'll never see in the WWE due to his size. But Chetti had no character, and his selling wasn't strong enough, so I had nothing to root for. Ah screw it, it's too hard. I can't follow the match and comment at the same time. The Buzz 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2007 I just downloaded a Harley Race/Jumbo Tsuruta trilogy pack from PWTorrents, as well as Uncensored 1997, The Best of Raven by RF Video(never got to see his ECW stuff growing up), Battlebowl 93, bunch of "how to wrestle" shoots by RF Video featuring Raven, and I watched Wrestlemania 9 and Royal Rumble 2007. Before I watched all the downloads I took a peak at the Sting/Regal matches from Monday Nitro and Saturday Night. I'm surprised they didn't run the program longer as the two had great chemistry imo. HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2007 2002-11-17 Survivor Series Hardcore Match: Trish Stratus© vs. Victoria - A solid, fun match with some neat spots (including the slingshot into the trash can in the corner) but the ending was rather abrupt as Victoria didn't have a clear finisher at the time (The Widow's Peak would debut the next night) so the double suplexes caught me by surprise. **1/4 2003-01-27 Monday Night Raw Chicago Street Fight: Victoria© vs. Trish Stratus - Even better than the Survivor Series match and I love the fact that the girls played OFF the Survivor Series match as well. Victoria is the one to slingshot Trish into the trash can this time, knowing Trish was trying to repeat the move from the PPV match. Trish uses a trash can lid to actually make the handstand hurricanranna not look contrived. Trish busts out some offense (flying clothesline off the guard rail and a flying Thesz press off the apron). They play off the fire estinguisher spot, this time with Richards spraying Victoria after it "malfunctions" when Trish went over (in the SS match Victoria sprayed Trish). Only downside was the ending again seemed abrupt with Victoria sending Trish off the apron and face first into the barricade for the win (camera didn't catch this cleanly but the replay made it clearer). *** and one of the better Diva matches in the WWE's history. Could've been ***1/4-***1/2 if it went a little longer. Also, it's a testament to the girls that the crowd goes from a "We Want Puppies" chant to legit getting into the match (check out the nearfall on Trish after Victoria's superkick/Chick Kick). Even minor moves like a neckbreaker and a slap(!) were getting "Oooh's" from the crowd.
Si82 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 WCW Championship Match: Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat - Spring Stampede 1994 I'd never seen this match before but it was damn good one. It was a couple of levels below their classic series of matches in '89 though. However, they still managed to deliver a quality wrestling match that was only really let down by the crowd who didn't seem that much into the match and the screwy finish. It should have just ended clean.
