Guest player Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 Personally, I believe if WWE went back to using the old WWF winged heavyweight title belt, and the classic I.C. belt, fans would care about them a little more. What do you guys think about this?

The one before it was held by plenty of guys across a long period of time (as far as wrestling goes.) But the answer is no. Bringing back old belts doesn't do anything for their image. Much like how putting Undertaker in a long-brimmed hat and leather jacket hasn't done much to change his image.

The reason being that they felt that it took away from the historical aspect of championships. Someting like the NHL making a new Stanley Cup or changing the design of the gold medal shape.

They replaced it because it had the WWF logo on it and it needed to be switched. I wonder if they still would have made the bigger one had it not been for the name change... And the last guy was right about the SD Tag belts. THEY should have gone with a different design.

The really asinine part of that is that the Raw tag titles are referred to as the "World Tag Team titles," which is fine (keeping in theme with the World Heavyweight title). The old belts SAID "World Tag Team Champions." The new ones only say "WWE Tag Team Champions." The word "World" is nowhere to be found on them. They had it right and changed the belts to make them wrong. D'OH. And for the record, while I don't think it's a good idea to bring back the old belts, I do agree that the 1998-2002 WWF championship belt ruled all. Some people like the look of smaller simpler belts. Fuck that. If I'm the champ, I want the biggest, oversized piece of bling they can make.

Well, technically it has the WWE logo and bigger sideplates than the original so it is not the same physical belt. The original Big Gold that NWA/WCW used ruled all belts.

Most of the newer fans wouldn't really know the history of it. I don't really see the problem with any of the current designs except for the U.S. title. Why make such a crappy belt when you had a good design with the WCW version?

For example, I like that with the RAW title you can go back a long ways and see guys carrying the same title (or at least one that looks similar enough) that Orton is wearing today. In other words I agree with that Stanley Cup analogy, it adds a sense of history. As for the WWE title, I like both designs from the 90s (the Bret title and Austin-Rock title). I'm not as big of a fan of the current version of the title because it looks too small to be a world title, especially when you see it up against the RAW title. So if they were to go back to either of those verisons I'd be fine with it. I could see them doing something when Cena wins the title, since he's into that whole "old school" thing, he could win the WWE title and then come out with either of the old WWE titles from the 90s. Then they could just keep using that version. I love the old IC title, but this one has been around for a decent amount of time, so its not that bad. But, again I wouldn't be upset to see the old one brought back. The US title should go back to the WCW version. I think the one in use on SD is pretty cheesy looking. All the other titles are fine to me.

Same here, I never really liked the Winged Eagle because its so small and cheap looking, especially compared to the Big Gold belt.
