President Bush, the worst president in history?

Recommended Posts

A friend e-mailed me this and since this is the folder for hot political debates, I might as well post it.

Worst president in history?

Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war.

They complain about his prosecution of it.

One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history.

Let's clear up one point: President Bush didn't start the war on terror.

Try to remember, it was started by terrorists BEFORE 9/11.

Let's look at the worst president and mismanagement claims.

FDR led us into World War II.

Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost,

an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea.

North Korea never attacked us.

From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost,

an average of 18,333 per year.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.

Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire.

From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost,

an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.

Bosnia never attacked us.

He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing.

Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

Over 2,900 lives lost on 9/11.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us,

President Bush has liberated two countries,

crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida,

put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot,

captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 a year.

Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home.

Worst president in history? Come on!

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq

than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound.

That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time

than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard

than it took Teddy Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq

than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

(This article appeared in the Durham, NC local paper as a letter to the editor. Perhaps this will put things in perspective:)

*Yawn*

Right wing chain letters are boring. I mean, Clinton? I swear, in 2048, the Republicans (or conservative Christians for Real Americans, whatever the party is called then) will still somehow be blaming Clinton for everything. On a side note, we're up to around 950 and we didn't ya' know, occupy Waco for years afterward.

Nah --- we just torched the Waco compound to the ground and killed almost everybody there.

Not a bad idea in Najaf.

Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost,

an average of 112,500 per year.

Germany was a known ally of Japan. Germany declared war on the allies of the United States. Germany then declared war on the United States.

Plus, there's that whole Holocaust thing this article seems to forget about.

1. Am I right that it was Bosnia that was having a situation similar to the Holocaust, or was that simply Yugoslavia? I always seem to get the two mixed up, so forgive me for my ignorance here. But I do believe Bosnia was doing some big-time bullshit that needed an outside army to interfere, and who else than the strongest military in the world?

2. 9/11 occurred during George W's presidency, not Clinton's. I understand the point beind made, but it's probably best to try and keep with the trend of only talking about incidents that occurred during that man's presidency.

Where's the critiques of Regan and Nixon? Oh, right, they were Republican presidents, so they're guilt-free.

Is Bush worse than William Henry Harrison? I think not. THAT motherfucker lasted all of a month. LITERALLY.

Who can be worse than Clinton or Bush supposedly are?

MILLARD FILLMORE CAN.

I think this post needs a certain song that fits all the presidents since Reagan.

FDR led us into World War II.

Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

#1 - Hitler declared war on us

#2 - led us into World War II, is there something the sender wants to say about Pearl Harbor? I guess the pacific part of WW2 doesn't count

Truman finished that war and started one in Korea.

Truman started the Korean War?

Well.. then again, the North Koreans claim that South Korea attacked first.

North Korea never attacked us.

US troops were in the Korean War though the UN. But, this guy goes on to complain about Clinton not getting UN consent. Seems like he wants to have it both ways.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.

Bullshit. Read a history book.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.

I'm pretty sure "went to war" is a bit exaggerated. And it involved NATO.

He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing.

such claims by the Sudanese are dubious

President Bush has (..)

crushed the Taliban

Last I heard, they were still around in parts. Around enough that Mullah Omar hasn't been seen.

crippled al-Qaida

Which is why we're on Orange alert. ;)

captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

by "a terrorist", you mean "Saddam Hussein", who would be better described as a "tyrant"

The "compare this to Democrats" listing appears to be done either with extreme spin, or extreme ignorance of history.

FDR led us into World War II.

Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

...Upon which Germany declared war on us days later.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us,

President Bush has liberated two countries,

crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida,

put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot,

captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

To the contrary:

In the three years since terrorists attacked us,

President Bush has left two countries fighting warlords for power,

moved the Taliban from a known to unknown location, spread the power of Al-Qaeda's message that the US wants to take over the Middle East,

lost the guy we were looking for,

and wasted our time when he had nothing by going after a dictator who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people while he had our full support.

It took less time to take Iraq

than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound.

That was a 51 day operation.

It only took less time to "take" Iraq if you stopped counting when you saw the aircraft carrier landing and said "Well, the banner said mission accomplished, so it must be so." Smart people knew better.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time

than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

Does it matter? The search will be about as successful as a search for live dinosaurs.

It took less time to take Iraq

than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

LOL.

Granted, I don't think the initial mission of Reno at Waco was to invade the compound. I'm sure if that was Plan A, they could have probably done it quickly. Oh, i'm sure that would have went over well.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!

That's due to minimal lawyer participation in the invasion

The letter isn't meant ot criticize FDR, Truman or JFK and maybe not JBL and WJC. Just point out that Presidents of the past have done similiar things that President Bush did in reguards to Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's far too early to say whether or not Bush the Younger is one of the best, worst or just one of the adequate presidents in American History.

No, he's one of the worst.

With September 11, the United States had the sympathy of the majority of the world.

Not a single person I know (in Australia, one of America's best allies) sympathises with the United States in their recent war endeavours. Our current Prime Minister's popularity has lessened immensely after he sent troops to Iraq.

Every single person who I know, even the most conservative of people (and I mean I have not heard anyone say otherwise) hope Kerry beats Bush at this election.

I'll try to find a excellent piece by Charles Krauthammer about that very subject.

The rest of world hates Bush. They hated Reagan has well. They only like a President who kisses their asses, and bow down to what they want. Screw, the best interest of his country. What do France and Germany want!

The best interest of this country, and any country in the world, is to not be viewed as a bully. Being a bully didn't help Hitler, it didn't help the Russians, it won't help us. At the least it'll lead to us having to do EVERYTHING by ourselves, allied only with the tiny do-nothing countries that want to ride our coattails but don't have the resources to be useful. At the worst it'll lead to eleventh hour negotiations and fingers unsteadily hovering over The Button.

I don't remember Clinton bending over to do favors for France and Germany and there wasn't this much resistance from them then, was there?

Lastly, I would sooner have a President that kisses the ass of those countries than a President that kisses the ass of Saudi Arabia.

Bush's legacy for good or ill hinges almost entirely upon what happens in Iraq and to an extent the Middle East.

If Iraq fails, he'll be condemned for going to war over flimsy evidence, but if it succeeds in becoming a vibrant democracy, then he'll be lauded for doing what no one else could: establishing a free and democratic nation in the heart of one of the most repressive areas of the world.

If he manages that, then history will largely forget that he also presided over one of the biggest downturns of foreign diplomacy in US history: Ironically enough, the war on Iraq.

1) If you honestly think that foreigners hoping Bush will lose will do anything but HELP Bush, you're sadly mistaken. Kerry's boasting about foreign leaders rooting for him is NOT going to win him many votes, as we want a President who worries more about America than anybody else.

2) Nobody wanted to stand up to Hitler, either. Sometimes, the world has to be dragged into doing the right thing.

The best interest of this country, and any country in the world, is to not be viewed as a bully.

Hmm, 9/11 occurred when we weren't viewed as a bully. Nothing even close has happened since.

You might be wrong on that one.

At the least it'll lead to us having to do EVERYTHING by ourselves, allied only with the tiny do-nothing countries that want to ride our coattails but don't have the resources to be useful. At the worst it'll lead to eleventh hour negotiations and fingers unsteadily hovering over The Button.

Our "allies" (read France, Germany, China, etc) will do ANYTHING for money. For us to worry about our allies will require us to make the some choices we had to make during the Cold War that cause liberals such fits of apoplexy.

I don't remember Clinton bending over to do favors for France and Germany and there wasn't this much resistance from them then, was there?

He didn't really DO anything, either.

Lastly, I would sooner have a President that kisses the ass of those countries than a President that kisses the ass of Saudi Arabia.

You wnt us to bully Arabia?

Hey, I'm all for it --- but it seems darned inconsistent of you.

Side with people who had oil deals and who armed Saddam far more than we ever did. Don't side with people, though, we don't like.

Bush pursued a noble mission --- liberating Iraq from the clutches of a tyrant --- the kind of thing we've been bitched at, ad infinitum, for not doing in the past. If they fail, it is not due to a lack of effort on our part.

Really, really bad comparison. Sometimes you have a time where you need everybody to fight for the survival of the country. That was WWII. It sure wasn't this.

That wasn't even the mission that was pursued. That was what the mission turned into after everyone saw what happened to the first goal and said "Uh.. Fuck." But, I guess if you do repeat a lie often enough, it becomes truth.

In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history.

I set the all-time record for the most foreclosures in a 12-month period.

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.

I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president since the advent of TV.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other president in US history.

I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.

I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history.

Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The 'poorest' multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her).

I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1).

I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.

I took the world's sympathy for the US after 911, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history).

I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

2) Nobody wanted to stand up to Hitler, either. Sometimes, the world has to be dragged into doing the right thing.

Really, really bad comparison. Sometimes you have a time where you need everybody to fight for the survival of the country. That was WWII. It sure wasn't this.

Nope. Incredibly apt comparison. If somebody told Hitler "no" early on, he would've collapsed and that whole mess of ugliness would've been avoided.

And, in case you missed it, we are very much in a war with a brutal force that wants us killed.

Sad thing is, we could never have won WW II with the present political environment.

You wnt us to bully Arabia?

Hey, I'm all for it --- but it seems darned inconsistent of you.

Side with people who had oil deals and who armed Saddam far more than we ever did. Don't side with people, though, we don't like.

Hey, they're not chopping off heads and hands

Who isn't? Saddam did.

Bush pursued a noble mission --- liberating Iraq from the clutches of a tyrant

That wasn't even the mission that was pursued. That was what the mission turned into after everyone saw what happened to the first goal and said "Uh.. Fuck." But, I guess if you do repeat a lie often enough, it becomes truth.

I still maintain that the WMD were very much there and were very much moved to Syria.

And, lord, THIS crap again? Here goes:

I attacked and took over two countries.

Just like that evil bastard Truman, right?

I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the Treasury.

Except the Treasury isn't anywhere near bankruptcy and the whole dot-com bust evaporated the surplus.

I shattered the record for biggest annual deficit in history.

By percentage of GDP, not even close.

I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 2-month period.

Wow, Bush was busy. The paperwork involved is considerable.

I set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market.

Actually, no. Really nice try, though.

I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.

Takes a while for appeals to run out. I was unaware that Bush, personally, had anything to do with it. Man, you'd think Clinton would've pardoned him --- if he gave enough money to Clinton's campaign.

I am the first president in US history to enter office with a criminal record.

Also the first to have lies spread in a really lame e-mail chain letter.

In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history

He had to have time to file all of those bankruptcies forms.

After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over the worst security failure in US history.

Worse than Pearl Harbor?

I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any president in US history.

Of course, this can't, you know, actually be proven...

In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

Oddly enough, more than half lost them before his first policy took effect. And a lot more were lost post-9/11.

I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history

And the writer of this gibberish runs out of actual material...

I set the all-time record for the most foreclosures in a 12-month period.

And people complain about his vacation time. You know how long it takes to do all those foreclosures AND bankruptcies?

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.

0 --- the same as all others...

I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president since the advent of TV.

Again, legit bitching, please.

I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other president in US history.

Which, to be technical, is impossible. Amendments amend the Constitution --- nothing else.

I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.

You mean a year or two after the fact? Damn him.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.

Which former Pres. has? And, keep in mind, the reserves would not actually lower gas prices to any degree.

I cut health care benefits for war veterans.

A lie.

I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to imultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.

Yup, he beat out Stalin and Hitler. And the world wonders why Americans take a shit with what they think.

I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.

Namely, none.

I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history.

Another lie.

Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The 'poorest' multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her).

And my opponent is the richest candidate in history. Funny, huh?

I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt.

Wow. All 50 went BANKRUPT? News to my state.

I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world.

This is actually nothing compared to what happened leading up to the Depression. And, please keep in mind, all of the problems were very much there before he took office.

I am the first president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.

The same UN that won't sanction Sudan for a GENOCIDE?

I have created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.

For no reason, right?

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any other president in US history.

For no reasonm right?

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.

The same UN that didn't care about the Rwandan genocide, right?

I'm not sure why the UN's opinion should mean shit.

I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.

Again, we're supposed to take them seriously?

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.

Which is, of course, wrong.

I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.

The UN did that nicely.

I withdrew from the World Court of Law.

True, Clinton didn't sign the treaty until his last day in office...

I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.

I'm also the first President who deals with people who don't understand the Conventions.

I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.

We've never allowed inspectors that I'm aware of.

I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.

Which, of course, is a lie.

The biggest lifetime contributor to my campaign, who is also one of my best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

When we was caught, I let him face the music, too. Damn me.

I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history.

Which, also, is bullshit.

I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1).

BWA HA HA HA. Thank you, Michael Moore.

I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.

Wow, X-Files level paranoia.

I took the world's sympathy for the US after 911, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history).

From our same allies that, again, oppose sanctions for the Sudan genocide.

I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.

Europe is, you know, a bunch of petulant children who've taken their safety for granted.

I am the first US president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the US than by their immediate neighbor, North Korea.

Then they're idiots.

I changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

I suppose you can prove it?

I set the all-time record for number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations bidding for government contracts.

A lie, of course.

I have removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history. In a little over two years I have created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided that the US has been since the civil war.

Lincoln removed more rights, actually (the whole suspension of habeas corpus) and the country was this divided after Clinton.

I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

It was actually in the toilet in 2000.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:

I have at least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine (Texas driving record has been erased and is not available).

*yawn*. I'm facing a man who is, by his own admission, guilty of war crimes.

Which, of course, is utter bullshit.
