Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Basically, for the first time ever an american network is launching a UK channel, rather than just selling the rights abroad to TV shows, its going to be called ABC1, and launch on the 27th september, heres the launch schedule http://www.digilook.net/launch_schedule.htm I havent heard of 99% of these programmes lol, so if anyone could tell me whether any of them are any good, or is it total shite? Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I'd go with choice B: total shite People will be all over Sports Night on here though and it probably is the best thing on that schedule. Home Improvement and Moonlighting had their moments. That's about it.
Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I'd sadly sort of come to that conclusion with names like Thunder Road, and the Sinbad Show
Guest Fook Report post Posted August 28, 2004 The only ones I ever watched from that list are Home Improvement and Unhappily Ever After. The early seasons of Home Improvement are classic and definitely worth checking out. They started getting more "serious" in the final seasons (like making one of the kids have cancer and other shit like that) and I tuned out. Unhappily Ever After is a poor man's Married With Children, but still had it's moments. Mr. Floppy is still funny. Worth checking out if just to form your own opinion. I've heard good things about Sports Night, but never saw it for myself.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Every show on that schedule was shit. My grandma LOVED "Empty Nest", BTW. I'll admit that "Moonlighting" and "Home Improvement" had their moments, but that grid looks like what if TV Guide published a schedule for Hell.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Soul Man, Unhappily Ever After, and Once and Again are decent shows. Ellen went downhill after the lead character came out of the closet on the show, but was decent prior to that. General Hospital is a Soap Opera, so it all depends on how you feel about soap operas. As someone already said, the earlier seasons of Home Improvement were good. Once the kids got old enough to factor into storylines the show started to go downhill. I always liked Moonlighting, it's a fun show and the main two characters had good chemistry. Even without John Ritter I think 8 Simple Rules is a good show, they handled Ritter's death well. The Golden Girls spinoff, Empty Nest wasn't bad. By all accounts Sportsnight is a great show, but I didn't care for it. The rest of the shows are either total shite or I never seen it. Overall, it's an extremely unspectacular schedule.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Only bother watching Unhappily Ever After, which is an old favourite of mine. Not even Jeremy Piven could save Ellen.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 28, 2004 eh Ellen was decent until it became all about "hey look at me i'm a lesbian...accept me...one of us...one of us". Of course what do I know, I consider Herman's Head to be a classic.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Reciently while watching Home improvment reruns I had forgotten how much I liked the show. It's a little dated by now, but still funny. I liked 8 Simple Rules till Ritter died...the show was lost after that.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Holy shit! Soul Man??? How the hell did that get syndication? Unhappily Ever After fucking rocks, and I wish I could buy it on DVD. As much of an unpopular opinion this is, I've started to watch General Hospital in the past three weeks, and they're busting out some pretty good episodes as of late. They just had a week long murder mystery storyline that was absolutely great. As for Sports Night... Kid #2: I finally get Aaron Sorkin's Sports Night. Its a comedy that's too good to be funny! The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Unhappily Ever After fucking rocks, and I wish I could buy it on DVD. As for Sports Night... Kid #2: I finally get Aaron Sorkin's Sports Night. Its a comedy that's too good to be funny! Unhappily Ever After is just Married With Children, but crappy. LOL at the inevitable Family Guy/Sports Night reference
Slayer 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Apparently they didn't feel like porting a whole lot of good shows, as quite a few of those shows were one-season flops (Sinbad, Soul Man, Thunder Alley, Daddio and Geena Davis)
the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Sports Night is a show that has no middle ground. Either people appreciated that it wasn't really a comedy but found a very dry humor in dramatic situations or they despise the show. I like it, and think it's worth a few viewings. The talking rabbit puppet with the voice of Bobcat Goldthwait is the star of the show. And Nikki Cox is better eye candy then the dumb blond on the other show + she is smart! Also everybody's favorite gay comedian from Last Comic Standing is on the show......ANT!

GreatWhiteNope 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I remember Thunder Alley actually being pretty good. I would have liked to have heard the pitch to network execs. "Ed Asner and Haley Joel Osment as a family with a gas station in their living room." GOLD.
AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Once & Again is pretty much a sappy family drama chick show, but I really liked what little I saw of it.

MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2004 Aren't these one season shows packaged in w/ the more established shows making the International networks take the garbage shows if they ever want to air the good ones?

Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Actually, the channel has now appeared ahead of launch, and they are running a 10 minute trailer over and over, and I must say, the trailer does make some of these programs look ok, I never really caught Moonlighting, so might give that a try, and Sports Night looks good, apart from that, the rest seemed a bit soppy
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 1, 2004 How classy is our country? The United Kingdom is one of few to back us in the 2nd coming of the Gulf War, and we repay them by sending over the worst collection of wrestling shows since ABC Family. Almost like an Expansion team in sports. The old teams say "We aren't giving up anyone with some bit of talent" and thus give the new teams the leftover bench warmers who average 4.3 ppg the previous season, and Home Improvement takes the "Old Timer thats way past its usefulness" award, which went to Charlie Hough when the Florida Marlins drafted him in 1992-93. razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Its payback for the programming of brit comedies that are on the PBS weekend evening line up. Are you Being Served (old people in their 70s working in a department store) and My Hero (married superhero)!
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Hey, don't be dissing "Are You Being Served?". How can anyone hate Mr. Humphries and Captain Peacock?
Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2004 Im hoping it does go well tho, as it might encourage more companies to have their channels over here, Fox has FX289, but thats just old repeats of NYPD Blue/X-Files/Shield and that

The girl from that show was in Thirteen and is pretty hot now...I don't know when that show was from, though. One of the later episodes featured a controversial kissing scene with her (Evan Rachel Wood) and Mischa Barton. Now I remember why I liked the show.
