SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 What are the songs that are sad/make you sad everytime you hear them? Seemed like a good topic, as im looking for some new music to listen to. Hopefully we can get this started, and Ill chime back in in a little bit with a few songs I think are sad. Thanks.
HarleyQuinn Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Gary Jules "Mad World" instantly comes to mind Sinead O'Connor "Nothing Compares to You" Cover
SinToxic Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Any album by Devil Doll just plainly saddens and knocks me into a scenery of dark cellars and dead warbodies. On Thorns I Lay is another mellowsaddener, mainly the crystal tears album, specifical songs: My Angel, Eden and Enigma. Try to think of more later, great topic.

The Mandarin Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 "Teen Angel" is the most hilarious attempt at a sad song I've ever heard, but that's 40 years ago for ya'.
River City Rocker Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Big Star's "Holocaust" comes to mind. -Ben
Henry Spencer Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 George Jones - The Grand Tour The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 A tremendous amount of Tom Waits. "Who Are You," especially.
Corey_Lazarus Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt." Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World," as Harley said. The entire Darkest Days album by Stabbing Westward is my "depression" album. The Smashing Pumpkins' "Today." Fear Factory's "Timelessness." Acid Bath's "The Bones of Baby Dolls." Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" and "Hollow."
B. Brian Brunzell Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt." I hear that. When I listen to the NIN original, I don't really feel anything, but Cash's just brings the downtroddenness to a whole new level. His voice, I think, is what makes it so beautifully sad. You can hear all the years of well, life in the track, and at the end of the song, you just know it's the end for Johnny as well.

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Mostly anything by Elliot Smith really.
Art Sandusky Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Acid Bath's "The Bones of Baby Dolls." Word. The Red House Painters' "Katy Song" gets me.

Guest combat_rock Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Dropkick Murphys-The Torch When you think about it, it's a much sadder theme than someone breaking up or someone dying.
Guest Coffey Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Bad Company's "Shooting Star" is pretty sad.
SinToxic Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 ... Now that's a really sad song man. *rolls EMO tears on que*

1234-5678 Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 "The Dance"-Garth Brooks "If You're Gone"-Matchbox Twenty "Waiting"-The Devlins
The Decemberists Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Off the top of my head I would go for - Billy Bragg - "Rule Nor Reason" Morrissey - "Lost" The Wonder Stuff - "Sing The Absurd" Tori Amos - "Winter" Beach Boys - "Till I Die" The Smiths - "I Know It's Over" and Bret Hart's song off Wrestlemania - The Album
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 King Crimson-"Trio." It's an instrumental and it's sad. I can't explain it any further than that.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Did someone actually name drop Garth Brooks? Seriously?
B. Brian Brunzell Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Mazzy Star's "Look Down from the Bridge" is pretty sad as well.
Skywarp! Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 "Brick" - Ben Folds Five "Butterfly" - Weezer
1234-5678 Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Did someone actually name drop Garth Brooks? Seriously? Haha, yes, yes I did. My ex sent me an email after we were broken up and had both moved on, and the jist of it was, listen to "The Dance" and you'll understand, won't be depressed anymore, blah blah blah. Of course it ended up being the most depressing song I have ever heard.
