Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 I'm not a huge baseball fan...last night was the first time since the Mets/Yankees WS that I actually sat through an entire game...I was going to turn to something else but after Damon hit that GS, I just HAD to keep it there to watch pathetic Yankee Fan's reactions all night...the 7th was awesome with Pedro in, I was actually getting in to the game and screaming at the Sox for the stupidity of the move...to me, now, it almost seemed kind of psychological in a way, give the Yankees hope and then pull it away in the 8th...I hope the Sox win the world series, cuz really I'm quite tired of Sox Fan whining all the time... Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted October 21, 2004 I still cannot believe this. Watching the whole game unfold in front of my very eyes and to say the least in YANKEE STADIUM was truly devastating. All everyone kept talking about is A Rod being a fucking joke, and truly is the curse to the Yankees and was better off going to Boston. This is unbelievable. This morning while I was on the # 4 train which passes Yankee Stadium, the whole train was SILENT when it passed the stadium. Then one guy started pounding on the train door saying NO THIS CAN'T BE TRUE, THE ASSHOLES DIDN'T WIN!!! Noone stopped him either we were all silent until the stadium was out of view. Guest DubWiser Report post Posted October 21, 2004 The Sox/Yanks head to head record over the past two seasons. Schilling and his bloody red sock. Foulke coming through in the clutch. 0-3. Dave Roberts. Curtis Leskanic. Derek Lowe possibly being worth whatever the fuck Boras is asking for, as we've all seen what happens when a sucessfull team loses playoff-tested starters. Mark Bellhorn. "Who's your dealer?". Wakefield. Cashman passing on Ortiz. Orlando Calrissian~! These were just a few of the things I wanted to discuss, but I'm too hung over for that shit, so let me just say that this is the greatest fucking thing ever. It's like that episode of Star Trek when Kirk and Scotty accidentally beam over to some parallel universe where everyone is evil and Spock has a goatee. Only in reverse. And not in space. It's amazing. Everyone around here is all smiles. Mayor Menino is mumbling absolute nonsense about how the Yankees are like a delicious cookie, and no one's making fun of him. No whining on WEEI. No stress. Simply amazing. I'm so happy I just might use one those gay ass smilies... Greatest fucking thing ever.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 I think if the Sox lose the Series, people will still remember the ALCS the way they remember the 1951 Pennant Race (Bobby Thomson's HR). nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Just a few random thoughts ... ... considering how much I bitched about the All-Star game determining home field, now that it's helping my local team I'm going to sing a different tune. Especially if the Cards win ... they'd have had home field if Selig hadn't decided to make the All-Star game 'matter'. ... I said a few days ago that things seemed backwards, and that the crazy crap was happening to the Yankees instead of the Sox (the Rivera tragedy, Gordon taking a cork in the eye, etc.). And that trend continued these last few nights: normally ARod is safe, the Bellhorn homerun remains a double, etc. It just seemed like the things that go right for NY and wrong for Boston happened to the other team. Hell, even the fact that each time the Yankees scored, the Red Sox would get at least one back was very 'Yankees-esque'. ... after this week, the word "curse" is going to send me into a stupor, like Pavlov's Dog drooling at the sound of a bell. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: THE CURSE IS A MEDIA CREATION. IT NEVER EXISTED, SO IT'S NOT VANQUISHED NOW. If the Sox lose the World Series, it's got nothing to do with Babe Ruth or a curse upon the franchise.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Where's the King Kurt avatars? The brash Red Sox arrogance? Hell, is it there? Cowboy up? Is Varitek going to cheap shot A-Rod again? How about you throw at some Yankee batters for redemption! Where's Pedro and Manny's little dances in the dugout? Do you fans know why the Red Sox went crazy when they clinched their playoffspot and celebrated like they won the world series? Because they KNEW they weren't going to BE in the world series. Say what you want about the Yankee players, but they got around modestly about their accomplishments. They keep their composure, and do not act like boers whenever they win something. Has anyone on the team pointed to the Red Sox dugout after hitting a homerun? Has any pitcher pointed at their crotch after after striking out the last batter of the game? My point? Babe Ruth doesn't want this Red Sox team to win because they don't have any class. Maybe once they have a major overhaul, they'll consider it. But don't expect to see the Red Sox Nation recover from this for a good 5-10 years. This is an unspeakable disaster. And to top it off: Everyone agreed with the after game 3. It WAS all but over. All of the hardcore Red Sox fans here admitted defeat. It WAS an unspeakable disaster. Everyone from Boston to Timbucktoo declared it as such. So whats the point of bringing this up? Since this post, anyone who was talked to me about the game, has realised I have given full credit to the Red Sox. And I'll admit, they were much more gracious in victory than I had expected. Maybe they've matured. But last year, and ever earlier in the year, they were acting like braindead idiots (who can play good baseball) who let their emotions and egos get in the way. This series was impressive because they kept their composure, never lost their tempers, and quietly went about their business. No one put themselves ahead of the team. Last year, that would've happened. Maybe its better management this year. Derek Lowe pitched the game of his life out there last night and did it with class, but when he closed out the A's last year in one inning he went crazy pointing at his crotch like he had won the World Series. I GIVE them credit, and they have proven half of my aforementioned quote wrong. I will not step down from my comments of them going down since, lets face it, they MIRACULOUSLY came back when not a single soul gave them a chance. But shining it on against me isn't proving much from the guy who ignorantly and foolishly was making such "clever" nicknames for the Yanks as Gay-Rod. C'mon bud, your team won but you've still managed to look like a loser. How is that possible?
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 So so depressed right now. The better team won, no doubt. They deserved to win. You can look at it anyway you want, but the Yankees blew it. Red Sox fans celebrate like hell, hopefully you guys lose in the World Series . But yeah, great job. Only thing I can hope for right now is a rematch for next year. This one is difficult to swallow. No one remembers the Giants got swept by the Yankees that year. They just remember Giants/Dodgers. Very true. Al, do you think of the Sox's remarkable comeback here as some kind of vindication for the Sabermetric Revolution? Billy Beane, Epstein, and the like get put down by popular baseball media folks, who still cling to the notion that sacrifice bunts are worthwhile. Does this give Beane, Epstein, et al the vindication they need, or will that only come with a World Series win?
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Actually, I think it works against the Seamhead school of thought because the deals at the deadline (acquiring Cabrera and Mientkiewicz) were rooted in getting guys with better defense and "better fundamentals." And, even though that's a misinterpretation of the meaning behind Moneyball, that doesn't mean that it can't keep writers from giving credit where credit's due. Guest GreatOne Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Please don't mention crappy wrestling in a baseball thread. Yeah how dare me mention the ONLY PLACE 1 WIN = 585 LOSSES seems to work................ GreatOne, maybe it is just me but I have no idea what you meant with any of that talk. What are you blabbing about? You're right, it's just you. What I'm saying is maybe the way in which they did it (coming from 3-0 down) makes it mean more, this was the year the Red Sox beat the Yankees, but does that make every other time the Sox have been slapped down go away? The heel/face comparison draws in perfectly, all the face has to do is the beat the heel once in X tries and that's it. Yet that only works in wrestling, not in baseball. Now continue on non-comprehending.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 I probably should save this for the World Series thread, but it will be interesting to see what the Sox do in the NL park since, with no DH, they might have to bench Ortiz (or let him play 1st *shudders*) EDIT: What might be better than this win is that ESPN Classic is FINALLY finished with the Red Sox-Yankees 24/7 stuff. They must have shown Game 7 '03 about 25 times between the end of game 6 and last night. And Cheap Seats is back on, baby!
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 WHAT CURSE?!?! The god damn Red Sox were never cursed. I'm tired of hearing that. Babe Ruth did not put a freakin hex on the Red Sox. You can't get a curse from making the stupidest trade in baseball. Congrats on the World Series shot and all, but stop it. Boston was never cursed. The Red Sox fans invented it so they wouldn't feel so bad about failing year after year. You think some unknown force is against you, you can feel better. The Red Sox were never, for one minute, ever cursed. What? It's going to be "The curse of A-Rod" in New York? How about the curse of no starting pitching?
