You're right, Lushus, there can only be two Sith at a time. So that means he/she could be another villain but not necessarily a Sith, it just seems they used some older ideas they had available.

Still, you have Sidious and Tyrannus, which makes two. I figure Vader takes Tyrannus's place when he bites it sometime in the movie. That also leaves the new General Grievious character as yet another major villain who theoretically shouldn't be Sith. Or maybe that pale-faced person was Grievious without the mask? He's supposed to be also part human, part machine.

yeah, Grievious was my thought as well...

EDIT: also, not sure if we ever hit this on the other threads, but is Anakin actually Darth Vader when he battles Obi Wan, is he even on the darkside yet or is that just one of the things that brings him over to the darkside? like perhaps the duel between them is like the final straw snapping when Obi-Wan chastises Anakin...

Obi-Wan knocks Anakin into the lava, and so Anakin becomes Darth Vader in order to survive.

I would think that Anakin is evil before he is forced to wear the body suit.

I'm basing this assumption on his funky-colored eyes in the trailer, as well as the clip of him schooling Obi-Wan, and looking quite vicious about it.

I think it's quite possible that he turns, is given the name/title of Darth Vader (Darth is a Sith title isn't it?) and later gets fuckered.

I think he started turning already, with what happened to his mom and the emperors "advice", but i believe he turns completely after the fight with obi-wan, which is probably where all his hatred emanates from because he might feel betrayed by his old mentor or whatever.

One thing to note, he never quite let go of his light side either, it was something he tried to get rid of but had buried deep within him

Re: darkside turn...

He turns before the fight - he begins to suspect ObiWan of having an affair with Padme (not true), and becomes increasingly jealous until he is ultimately consumed by his rage, gives in to the dark side, force chokes Padme, then duels w/ ObiWan.

I am guessing that he falls to the dark side before the big duel with Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan is trying to pull him back from the Dark Side, but can't so he has to destroy him.

Remember the conversation between Obi-Wan and Luke in Jedi?

Luke: There is still good in him, I felt it.

Obi-Wan: I was once thought as you did, but he is more machine now than man, twisted and evil.

Hmm, I wonder now...

When Obi-Wan says "Vader was seduced by the Dark Side of The Force..."

...does he consider Padme the part of the dark side that seduced him?

Or am I being crazy for that?

Not at all. The Jedi forbid love, as love is an entangling emotion. The fear is that love will cause the Jedi to give in to their emotions, which leads to the darkside.

Padme is A contributing factor in his downfall, but not THE factor.

I believe Anakin is not just on the darkside, but actually is "Darth Vader" before the suit. The suit was just made because of him getting the shit beat out of him by Obi-Win and falling into the lava pits.

I just wonder how they are going to fit everything in to this movie. Since nobody knows yet that Palpatine is Sideous, it means Anakin has to get seduced to the darkside, and fall under control of Palpatine, but then also in the process realize Palpatine is Sideous, yet at the same time, not get freaked out by this, take a step back and realize this is one evil dude. I mean Anakin better really be emotionally hurt to overlook all of this and just give in to Palpatine/Sideous.

the thing is though, ROTJ kinda told us turning to the Dark Side is as easy at that...all Luke needed to do was murder Darth Vader or the Emperor and he would have turned, though the common man woulda viewed it as being heroic...

Anakin is sent after Dooku, and instead of capturing him, gives in to his rage and kills him, which sets off his descent to the darkside. All this happens early in the film, which leads to what I mentioned in the spoiler text a couple posts up.

The Empire hasn't even been fully established yet - the Death Star hasn't even begun construction, Palpatine has just revealed himself as Sidious - they're still considered clones at this point.

GREAT great trailer.

I got chills when you hear Vader's Breathing, and Palpatine saying Lord Vader then you hear James Earl Jones voice say "Yes Master" Oh my friken god.

One Question:

Why is Chewbacca in this movie? Are they gonna show a young Han Solo and Chewie's storyline of Han dropping Jabba's load (or whatever it was) or maybe an interaction with Han and Lando?

Chewie's there because...

There's a big-ass battle on Kashyyyk where Yoda leads an army of clones and Wookiees against the Seperatists. At some point during or after the battle with the Seperatists, Palpy turns the Clonetroopers against the Jedi, sparking a barney between the Wookiees and the Clones. While all this is going on, I believe Chewie and General Tarfful, a Wookiee leader, help Yoda escape.

He becomes Vader when the Emperor names him his apprentice.

The emperor probably doesn't do so until he's had time to collect the body and stick it into the suit. Why would he reveal himself to Anakin before? He would give away his dual identity to someone he's not sure he can trust. He trusts Anakin after the suit because now all the things he hated Kenobi for in the past seem almost insubstantial in light of the whole "I'm a burned zombie corpse because you're an asshole" feud.

Anyway, they have a LOT of missing ground to make up between the end of II and the start of IV. He not only has to fall in love, get Padme pregnant, hide the kids (remember the Emperor's new lines in the DVD set), and everything else AND we still have to transition from republic army to empire. That's too much content for 90 minutes.

TPM was awful and AotC was what TPM should have been in the first place. If they didn't waste that first movie on a time period that nobody cares about it wouldn't have resulted in this time squash.

fall in love? They got married at the end of ATC, so what do you mean fall in love? I believe it's already been leaked that Padme is pregnant at the start of the movie so that takes care of that...Lucas is probably relying on us to read novels from the EU in between ATC and ROTS and ROTS and ANH to fill in the holes that aren't covered in ROTS...

Just checked on IMDB to see what they had for the heights of the two Vader body actors.

According to them...and I am aware that they have made mistakes at times:

Prowse: 6'7" tall

Hayden: 6'1" tall

...even with lifts in the boots, it's going to take some creativity to make Hayden look as tall as Prowse did in those movies.

I'm sure that if Peter Jackson's FX company could make Hobbits look small, ILM can make Vader look tall.

I actually sat through half of TRL yesterday to see it. That is dedication...

I feel your pain. Not that I actually sat through TRL to watch the trailer, but I understand how watching it could be traumatic.

Hey, Neil-o-Mac, I'm not up on Cockney Rhyming slang, but are you riffing on Ocean's Eleven?

That "only two Sith" thing is bullshit.

Hell, in the comics and the Clone Wars animated series - which Lucas has licensed, mind you - you have at least THREE sith: Palpatine / Sidious, Dooku / Tyrannus, and Asajji Ventress.

The trailer looked good (I'm not having kittens about it like everyone else, cause I remember all too well how excited I was for the first two and was sorely disappointed), but as far as I'm concerned Lucas had better knock this one out of the park.

There's going to be PLENTY of movies to spend my cash on this summer (Batman, Fantastic Four, etc.), he'd had better make this last one good if he wants my business.

yeah but does being on the darkside of the force automatically = Sith Lord or is that like a "special club" for only 2 dark jedi? There could be tons of dark jedi runnin around yet only two official Sith...

In the "Tales of the Jedi" comic series it was established (and maintained as canon) that there would only be two Sith in order to be the sole possessors of the Sith power (which is, of course, part of the dark side).

Asajji Ventress is a Dark Side user, and follows some Sith principles, but is NOT a Sith.

BTW, Tales of the Jedi is proof that Kevin J Anderson doesn't always = suck. I don't know why his novels aren't as good though - maybe it's the visual aspect that comics provide.

Some questions/comments.

How many Jedi are left, does Vader hunt down a ton at the end I'd assume?

Also, I've said it before on this board, but though I'm fine with it now, did anyone else assume the Empire had been around for longer than the movies show? However having Vader somewhat "birth" the empire and be the one to destroy it is fine and dandy. I'm looking forward to this though--as when I was 4 Vader made me cry in the first Star Wars when he bursts into the ship--and when I finally saw the movies at 7/8 I thought he was the coolest, most badass thing ever--and then the "Gee whizz" kid Vader was a little disappointing in Episode 1, though in 2 he gets better somewhat and here hopefully we see the true badass emerge.
