history of ECW DVD

Recommended Posts

I went to Best Buy first this afternoon, but the numb nuts working told me that even though the computer says they should still have 8 more in stock, he can't find any more in the back, and there's none on the shelf. Instead I went across the street to the mall, where I picked it up at FYE. The DVD case came packaged in a larger cardboard package that included the DVD and the ECW Winter Hat. They also tossed in a flimsy regular hat that has the old school 80's WWF logo on it.

Just bought my copy at Best Buy, funny thing was that the guy in front of me and behind me both had it in thier hands as well. This DVD should have some very stong sales. Mabey ECW will come back to life.

ECW needs to stay dead. Lightning never strikes twice, and rarely strikes a first time.

So is it out in Canada yet? If yes, who has seen it in Toronto? If no, when is the release date?

Is it true that this DVD ignores the history of Shane Douglas in ECW?

No, he's definitly featured pretty prominently, including the promo where he throws downt he NWA belt to announce the formation of ECW.

Their's only easter eggs on the second disc

1.Go to the Mikey Whipwreck/Sandman match and click left for a promo of Public Enemy training Mikey in central park.

2.Go to Taz/Bam Bam and click left with your remote for a sweet package video from the time to build-up to the match.

3.Go to Rvd/Lynn and click left and you will get Cole and RVD showing you a scare from the match on RVD's face.

The dvd more then gives Douglas his props. The person who doesn't get any mention until 2+ hours in to the feature and it's very little is RVD.

Theirs some great stuff on here. One moment has Bischoff claiming he didn't raid ecw and then them cutting right after to Heyman saying Bischoff is full of shit :D

My only complaint is how patchy the dvd is.It jumps around alot in time periods and ignores alot of things like any of Tajiri's work there.

Actually if you hit left (or right, I don't remember) on "Promos" in the chapter selection on disc 1, there is a montage of many ECW promos throughout the years.

I went to a Sunrise in Mississauga today and they said it's been delayed a couple of days over here.

The Foley stuff was great, especially him not being able to wear sunglasses due him being hardcore. I laughed my ass off at that one.

I am going to feel like a fucking faggot if I bring an action figure up there, I thought those things were gay when I was 8. You get enough weird looks when buying a wrestling dvd, if I saw someone my age (21) buying an action figure I would consider him the biggest geek in the world.

That's why when I buy action figures I first tell the cashier that "This is for my homosexual son."

The reason for only 7 matches is that the main feature is 2 hours and 50 minutes long. Still, that match lineup leaves a lot to be desired. Where's Shane Douglas vs. 2 Cold Scorpio? Or more importantly, Tajiri vs. Super Crazy or Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka (from either Heatwave or Anarchy Rulz) ? Personally, I would rather have a one hour main feature with two more hours of matches.

Thanks.

I went through everything and did the left/right click but guess I skipped over it somehow.

If ppl thought the RVD comm for the Eddie dvd was good just wait till you hear the one for the RVD/Lynn match.RVD is so blitz'd and I get a better appreciation for Cole everytime he does a comm on how good he can be when he doesn't have someone feeding him his lines.

Well, it stands to reason since RVD was likely blitzed when he wrestled that match. If you look at ECW era RVD stuff he often had a hazy look in his eyes.

It's odd that he isn't featured more on the main program though, considering he you know, CARRIED the company from roughly 1998 till it closed.

From what I have read they seem to focus more on the 1995-96 period of stuff more than the 98-99 era (which is mainly when I watched ECW). I personally think that in the late 90s ECW had the best in ring product of the 3 main companies, given the Russoization of the WWF and WCW's rapid decline.

And no Justin is a good thing. When the guy won the title ECW was still on national TV and had a loyal fanbase. By the time he jobbed to Jerry Lynn TNN had canned them and the fan interest was minimal.

Yeah I have had stuff like RVD/Lynn since it originally aired. Also have Pitbulls vs. Raven/Stevie on an ECW factory tape as well as most of these matches. Only thing I hadn't seen was Sabu/Scorpio and I wonder why, since that was a damn good match (I just watched it).

I watched this last night, and I was impressed. I had a hell of a good time watching it (I haven't watched ECW in ages......I might have to throw in some tapes now) and it was great if you were a huge fan of the company when all this was happening (which I was) so I really enjoyed it.

Found one his morning at Walmart. Watched 2/3 of it and I'll finish it tomorrow probably. Good DVD, although Bischoff is a little smug and pretty much writes ECW off as a nothing fed.

I was thinking the same thing. Funny how the guy that ran the company on top (at least on top at the time of ECW's rising popularity) is still bitter about a company that supplied him with a hell of a lot of talent. Hell, at least Vince was even giving ECW SOME credit...........

Vince giving ECW credit was a bit of surprise to me. I honestly didn't expect it from ol' Vinnie Mac.

The best part of the entire DVD is RVD's commentary. When Cole mentions "dichotome (sp?)" and RVD just says "Huh?" had me fucking ROLLING. That, and everytime Rob would stop his telling of the history of the match and his feud with Lynn to proclaim a move as "sweet."

Best part was the when the people would do impressions during their interviews. The best one probably was Stevie Richards doing Terry Funk and the funniest one was Jericho telling the story of how Paul E. got the cheap plane tickets especially the Ron Simmons one "Do I look like a Goldstein......DAMN!".

Paul E also did a good Steve Austin.

Bischoff just proves why he was a short term success, his thinking to wrestling was 100% business, no passion what so ever. You can't make it long term in wrestling with that thinking.

I got my copy the day it came out. One of the best DVDs the WWE had made. and this is coming from someone who never saw a ECW show or match sence I got the DVD.

The extra feature matches were some great stuff. espeically the RVD/Lynn match. and Tazz's Paul Heyman blessing segment was so emotional and touching it was great.

The DVD is really good, but to do ECW justice there should be a part two with more matches. 7 matches(some of them not even the best they could have picked) does not do ECW justice.
