history of ECW DVD

Recommended Posts

Say what you want about Corino, but Tajiri vs Corino from Hardcore Heaven 2000 was one of the most entertaining matches ever. They both worked their asses off in that one.

And when Lynn wrote die on his chest. I think I stood up and souted "fuck yeah!" Another match where Corino busted his ass.

I also love it when he takes Lynn's hand and makes a masturbation motion to his croth and tells the fan "your mom jerks me off like this."

I've always found that Lynn/Corino match odd. Writing DIE in blood on your chest is cool as shit, but I wondered why Jerry did this. Not like there was an especially heated feud there, I don't recall much of a story at all really.

Think about if Lynn had busted RVD open and wrote DIE on his chest....now that would have been one of the coolest moments EVER.

Is there a promo montage on this dvd? Because one promo that I think is very underrated is Bam Bam Bigelow's "I am done cooperating" promo before beating Taz for the ECW World Heavyweight title. He just brought up a lot of stuff in his career that he went with to cooperate, and how he was done with that stuff, and then ironically he gets the rub and beats Taz. Good stuff.

Do you mean when he beat Douglas for the ECW World Title or Taz for the TV Title?

I belive it was right before he beat Taz, the match where they fell through the ring mat, actually, I think I have my matches mixed up now, and it might have been before he beat Douglas...my bad.

He beat Douglas for the ECW World title at N2R 97, and Taz for the ECW TV title at Living Dangerously 98. So you're thinking about a promo leading up to the TV title match, since that's when Bam Bam put Taz through the ring.

And Jerry writing "DIE" in Corino's blood made sense. Since the formation of The Network earlier in the year, Lynn was a prime target of theirs. Corino had Rhino destroy him. Cyrus constantly suckered him into attacks by Corino, Victory, and Rhino. With Cyrus distracted by the feud with Gertner that lasted all of 2000 (and did produce one bit of hilarity when Gertner took off his shirt to reveal Kamala warpaint), Corino masterminded Lynn's attacks. Thus, it made sense that Lynn would want Corino to die for having made his life a living hell for months.

But...it's a friggin feud with the NETWORK. Hardly worthy of such a bad ass moment.

Oh, and Douglas regained the title from Bam Bam at N2R 97...Bigelow beat him a little while earlier I think. BBB did beat Taz at LD 98.

Yeah they were.

Cyrus: "I'm the man responsible for cancelling ECW on TNN, and replacing it with RRRRRRRRRRRRROLLERJAMMMMMMMM!!""

Corino: "I'm a very forgiving man, Tajiri. Hey...hey...LOOK AT ME, YOU SLANT-EYED BASTARD!"

Rhino: "Hickory dickory dock, I'll make her SUCK MY FUCKING COCK!"

Victory: "Highspot!" \/m

I must buy this DVD. I hope I get some incentives with it like free skull caps and hats or whatever they might still be giving away with it.

I hope.

Why? you wouldn't actually wear them....right?

For anyone who bought this at Best Buy, what is the in-store price? I went on bestbuy.com and they have $19.99 listed as the price, but I don't know if that's a special online thing, since the MSRP is I believe $29.99.

I'd LOVE to see Gertner talk about ECW. He wouldn't HAVE a career without the neckbrace and innuendo's from managing The Dudley Boyz.

C'mon...no RRRRRRRRRRRROLLERJAMMMMMMMM love?

Are there other ECW wrestlers not currently employed by the WWE talking on the documentary, or is it just Heyman, RVD, Dudleys, Tazz, and all the other WWE-contracted wrestlers?

Tommy Dreamer has comments on there too, I believe....

No. He's in OVW as a trainer.

Well, I paid 21.99 for the DVD @ FYE and got a WWF Trucker hat with it, but no ECW beanie because they ran out :(.

I wish they had used the ECW theme by Harry Slash to open up the DVD instead of the random production they used.

"I pretty much told them to go fuck themselves when they treated people like shit." Holy shit that was funny. ON WWE PROGRAMMING.

Loved the chapter on Shane Douglas/NWA title incident.

*Bischoff gives a long, good sounding answer.*

Heyman: Eric Bischoff is full of shit. (THAT WAS FUCKING GREAT)

Paul Heyman's impression of Austin was classic.

Watching the Austin chapter really made me see how his Stone Cold gimmick was just ready to come out and it only took the WWF's production to do it.

I had never seen the Mind Games footage...pretty cool.

I had never seen the Crucifiction angle or Kurt Angle in the ECW arena. Fucking insane.

The Barely Legal chapter was really strong work.

Couldn't believe the Dudleys stuff...never seen how bad they actually were.

Loved the Awesome/Tazz, as well as Triple H/Tazz footage.

Thought the ending of it was awesome.

Extras: Thought the Stevie Richards and Tazz segments were pretty intense.

Jericho's stories were great.

Fucking AMAZING DVD. I was so drained after the 3 hour program, but it brought back a few memories...and a lot of stuff that I had never seen before. Definately worth having for your collection.

I pulled this one out of my DVD backlog this morning and it's gotta be one of the best features they've ever done for any DVD. It avoids being a fluff piece and considering they had to cram nearly a decade into three hours, I think they did everything justice. It's informing even for the most knowledgable fans (I didn't know about the workers have side jobs within the company) and works as a great nostalgic piece.

Still, anyone who thinks that they need to revive the promotion is dead wrong. There's a reason why it didn't work out and it's much more complex than Heyman's logic about failing because they had no TV deal.

The days of the hardcore style that made ECW what it was are long gone and any attempt to bring them back into style would just undo much of what WWE has been trying to accomplish over the past year (a safer in-ring style).

This may lead to a less interesting product from certain points of view, but everyone needs to accept that the boom period for this type of wrestling is long past us now; there's no need to going trying to recapture lightning in a bottle.

And for those of you who were complaining about the lack of matches, why not check out the ECW DVDs from a while back? A lot of the matches I see discussed about not being included in this set are available elsewhere on DVD. I know we often complain about material being recycled for WWE releases, so why would we want the same to be done with ECW footage? I'll take the in-depth feature over lots of matches since there are many other releases out there on DVD that can whet my appetite for the latter.
