WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

Recommended Posts

actually, i did know that. it always just amazed me that he was ever in WCW. i mean, hell, his schtick wasn't exactly what one would expect in such a "family-friendly" company. this is the same company that wouldn't let the announcers say "FOREIGN objects", but hired an obese black man to stab people with forks and bleed like a fountain. i just don't know...

it is weird if you think about it

Here's something I've wondered for a while: Am I imagining things, or when Sean Waltman joined the nWo, did they originally spell his name "Syxt"? I could have sworn I remember seeing in a Halloween Havoc '96 promo "Chris Jericho vs. Syxt".

I think it was originally "Six" but I'm not certain. PWI spelled it like that though I do know.

The first time I saw Abby was in '87 on one of the millions of wrestling shows that were on TV. In this one, they came to the ring through a door...a normal door with a doorknob. I remember when he stood on his opponent, the commentators made it out like the man could be dead.

3.  Ron Simmons & Abdullah The Butcher defeated Cactus Jack & Mr. Hughes.

ABBY was A FACE in WCW???!Q!??!?!?!?!?!?!

Abby was IN WCW?????

Yea, and infact if he hadnt been, Id never would have seen him. The first time I knew of him he was in WCW.

He came in to tag with cactus agaisnt sting and multiple partners of stings choice. Abby and cactus seemed to have broken up around superbrawl 2, but after Ron beat cactus at superbrawl, abby came out and attacked....RON? The Junkyard Dog who was in the audience, made the save.

Abby's lone PPV match in WCW was @ Halloween Havoc 1991 in the Chamber of Horrors match where he was placed into a electric chair.

Abby also worked NWA in the mid-80's including Starrcade 1985 against Manny Fernandez in a death match. and Great American Bash 1985 in Six man action.

According to Foley's book, they were a team as well. That I wish I had seen.

I dont remember too much tv tag matches but I bet they were a wild team judging by the book

They weren't necesarily a team per se, it was more like Abdullah doing everything possible to team with Cactus and it never really worked out as they always ended up brawling with each other.

Why did Kevin Nash no show Starrcade '97?

Because he didn't want to job to the Giant, he may also have not wanted to take the Giant moonsault that was rumoured to have been practiced around this time...the official excuse was that he had a heart attack...

Why did Scott Hall no show Starrcade '99?

You would have thought it was because of 'personal demons' but the reason Hall wasn't at Starrcade 99 (and had to vacate the tag and US belts) was because of a blown out knee and an inmjured groin....

In the Death of WCW book it says that 15 guys wanted their releases in 2000, I know about the Radicalz,Douglas,Kidman and Konnan but who were the others who later decided to stay?

From Meltzer on the WC board:

WCW negotiated with Shamrock in 1997. Shamrock talked with WCW, WWF and New Japan after UFC didn't renew his contract, and then UFC offered him more money than if they had renewed it when they found out he was talking with the pro wrestling groups. WCW offered him money but it appeared Eric only wanted to squash him because he hated UFC. New Japan offered big money and the IWGP title but WWF offered bigger money and Bret Hart agreed to drop the title to him back-and-forth in a program on top so he knew he'd be taken care of.

Severn was also talked with. Never heard of WCW talking with Angle and am pretty sure it's not true. They did talk with Matt Ghaffari and Brock Lesnar. Don't know about Sean Morley off the top of my head.

Is there anyone who knows who all was on the WCW roster at the time Vince bought it? Including guys like Goldberg, the Steiners, Luger, Jarrett, etc. that didn't go to WWE.

True or false: Stevie Ray once referred to Scott Steiner as both "synthetic" and a "sad, sack-ass fruit booty"

that sounds like things he would say.

Yeah but he was still under contract to Time Warner, add Bob Sapp and a few others to that list who were in NWA Wildside, isn't that where AJ Styles came rom originally?

Here's one I don't get, my mom bought me the official WCW "Best Of Fall Brawl" tape for Easter '99 and one of war games matches on there was Lugar, Sting, Hogan, and Savage vs The Dugeon Of Doom and they said it was from the year 1994 but wasn't Lugar in the WWE for that year? Did they screw up the date?

Was there any reason why Fit Finlay got the TV title in 1998? That always seemed sort of random.

I think it was so WCW could piss off Smarks by constantly putting him over Benoit.

I find it funny how the TV Title changed hands 5 times in 5 days in May '98. Booker and Benoit traded the title twice from May 1-4, then Booker lost it to Finlay on the May 5 Nitro.

It was unbelievably random, as nobody had even mentioned Finlay as a contender up to that point.

I imagine it was an attempt to spike ratings for Nitro for the whole "anything can happen" vibe.
