Timmy8271 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 That's wrong NYankees. It got moved because they didn't sell enought tickets. oh, i see. That's funny.
Guest Overworked Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 I was watching some old stuff on In Demand yesterday, have a question for you guys... I was watching an MSG show during Ricky Steamboat's short 91 WWF run as "The Dragon"...not once do the announcers address him as Ricky Steamboat nor do they mention anything at all about his previous WWF run...he was wrestling Smash, and while they mentioned Smash's 3 tag team championship's, they didn't once mention Steamboat's IC title reign...in fact, they kept referring to him as one of the fresh, exciting young stars new to the WWF...were they just being stupid on this particular day or did they always refer to him in this matter during that failed 91 run? I mean the guy was maineventing the NWA and was their champ a couple of times and was an upper midcarder during his first WWF run and they just blew all that stuff off...were they acting like he never existed prior to 91 or what? Funny part to that, I have one of the coliseum tapes that had the Dragon's matches on it, and Randy savage was doing commentary and he had to not mention the fact he had a feud with him where he lost the ic title to him in 87

areacode212 Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 He went to the NWA/AWA thing, not sure what it was called, where he was pushed as the top star. Was this the Pro Wrestling USA promotion?
LooseCannon25 Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 I got a couple... Why the hell was KOTR 95 so damn shitty. I mean the tournament had Yokozuna, Taker, Shawn, even Kama (who i liked) in it, but for some reason all of these guys were eliminated in the first round and scrubs like Savio Vega, The Roadie and Mabel in the semis. They could have made Sid vs. Diesel for the Championship, and then put Tatanka and Bam Bam in the tourney as well. Why the hell did they make such a weak semi-final round? Also, who the hell thought Mabel should get a main event push?

Dobbs 3K Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Wasn't Vince gone for quite a bit during that time period due to legal problems and stuff?
Bruce Blank Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Yes he was and he gave the book to Bill Watts, Watts liked Mabel so he became the King of the Ring - Thank god Vince was aquitted
Lil' Bitch Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Why the hell was KOTR 95 so damn shitty. Yes he was and he gave the book to Bill Watts, Watts liked Mabel so he became the King of the Ring - Thank god Vince was aquitted Watts liked Mabel so much, his original intention was to have Mabel get the ultimate rub by going over the three most popular faces in the tournament in one night (Undertaker, HBK, Ramon). But seeing how Razor got injured legit and 123 Kid out of action, Savio took his place and Michaels probably refused jobbing to Mabel so we got the draw finish instead. Since Diesel was the champion, I think they wanted another monster heel going after the title and we got the worst SummerSlam main event in WWF history.
EdwardKnoxII Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 The same people who thought it was necessary to bring him back this year. But, at least this time around he's entertaining.
Dobbs 3K Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Viscera serves a purpose now, at least, and the proper one for a guy of his ability. He's presented as a credible threat when needed, but not someone who will probably ever hold a title belt. He's used for comedic purpose, and pretty effectively (although the latest angle with Lillian was a little confusing with how it ended). To be fair, I think if you look back at some of Mabel's solo stuff from the mid '90s, he was never a terrible worker...at least no worse than someone like Yokozuna. The problem was, he went from being a tag team wrestler to a main event solo guy in basically one night. It just doesn't work that way. Maybe if they had slowly moved him into a singles role, given him a gimmick overhaul, etc. then it could've worked. But, Bill Watts had a hard-on for big black guys in the main event, so we ended up with King Mabel even though no one wanted to see it.

King Kamala Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Sort of, except JBL improved after awhile while Viscera- well.....there's a reason he's a Love Machine now and not back on the top of the card.
Naked Snake Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Wasn't Vince gone for quite a bit during that time period due to legal problems and stuff? Vince was acquitted in '94, but that KOTR was in '95. I guess he was still feeling the effects of that. Anyway, I was reading a Wikipedia article on the Undertaker and I came across this statement, "Between December 1991 and September 1993, the Undertaker did not lose a single match." Is that true?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Bill Watts had nothing to do with Mabel getting pushed. Watts didn't get to the WWF until September of 1995, which was long after the Mabel push started.
Guest Fook Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Anyway, I was reading a Wikipedia article on the Undertaker and I came across this statement, "Between December 1991 and September 1993, the Undertaker did not lose a single match." Is that true? Well he was eliminated from the 92 and 93 Royal Rumbles, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I certainly can't remember him being pinned in any way.
cabbageboy Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Who did UT lose to in Sept. 1993 anyway? I don't recall him losing to anyone period between the Hogan title loss at Tuesday in Texas and the Yoko casket match at RR 94. Let's see, UT spent most of 1992 with the Berserker and then Kamala, so no he didn't lose any there. Spent most of 1993 with Giant Gonzalez and maybe Mr. Hughes a bit. I'm drawing a blank as to what UT did between the Gonzalez feud and the Yoko feud. Maybe he didn't do anything more than be on Luger's team at Survivor Series?
Naked Snake Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I checked on www.thehistoryofthewwe.com and Taker only lost by DQs or countouts in 1992 and most of 93. Yokozuna beat him in a casket match in October of 1993.
Guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I'm drawing a blank as to what UT did between the Gonzalez feud and the Yoko feud. He went straight from one to the other. By that, I mean they started the Yoko program the day after SummerSlam. Why was Crush put in a program with Savage in the first place?

That reminds me...about UT vs Berserker. Did that ever go anywhere? I remember seeing the angle where Berserker tried to impale Undertaker with his sword after a wild brawl, but did they ever have a blowoff match or anything to that?
Bruce Blank Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I'm drawing a blank as to what UT did between the Gonzalez feud and the Yoko feud. He went straight from one to the other. By that, I mean they started the Yoko program the day after SummerSlam. Why was Crush put in a program with Savage in the first place? Because Savage never visited Crush during his time in the hospital after Yokozuna injured him and he got so hurt that his "close friend" Randy Savage just didn't care about him. Or maybe it was that his "close friend" Randy Savage didn't try to stop Yokozuna from injuring him during Raw (I forget which. . . if it wasn't actually both) Which of course begged the question: Savage and Crush were friends? and the follow up: Why did Crush side with the man that injured him?? Two questions the booking team wanted you to just sorta gloss over - and hey it did produce a kick ass WM X match
cabbageboy Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 UT/Berserker was mostly a house show feud, it was one of many feuds post WM in 1992 that never went anywhere or have an actual blowoff while it was "hot." They needed a KOTR type PPV then so they could blow some of this silly stuff off, and then build new stuff for SS. Honestly, I couldn't even remember the whole UT/Yoko feud in 1993. I mostly remember it beginning in Jan. 1994.

FroGG_NeaL Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Man, I really wanna see Taker get stabbed by The Berzerker.

That Monday Night Raw Coliseum Video from 1993 (best Coliseum Video out there) is my friend, so I've seen the angle many times.
Dobbs 3K Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Basically I think they felt Crush had gone as far as he could as a face, so they decided to turn him heel, and a feud with Savage was a convenient way of doing that, since I don't think Savage was doing much at the time either.
Bruce Blank Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Savage was doing mainly commentary and the odd match but nothing more, I think he wanted to return to full time in ring action and this was the way to bring him back with a purpose and all.
