WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Triple H

Chris Benoit

Eddie Guerrero

John Bradshaw Layfield

Randy Orton

Other

Yes. Randy Orton. One, because I'm an Orton mark >_>. Lol, but no really, it's a fact...we all know Chris Benoit is an outstanding wrestler. We all know Eddie is an outstanding wrestler. But, Randy Orton is not, and yet...he still has had great matches. (to me at least, because I know there are some that hate each and every one) He was pushed as a top guy. Now 'many' actually see him as a top guy. I mean, he's had good matches with Benoit, Flair, Shelton, even Edge..So that in turn makes me consider him greatest wrestler of the year, going from mainstay IC Champ, to World Champ and possibly the future. (Even though most hate that but whatever) Plus there will be enough Eddie and benoits that if this was an actual poll it's not like my vote would count >_>

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance

Rhyno & Tajiri

Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupree

The Dudley Boyz

The Basham Brothers

Others

Billy Kidman & Paul London. They're 'fluke' victory where they won the titles out of no where just sort of caught me by surprise...and I loved it. Matches were great, and London was getting a push. Nuff said.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene

Gene Snitsky

Tyson Tomko

Luther Reigns

Kenzo Suzuki

Other

Yes. Gene mothafuckin..I mean, babykillin Snitsky.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Christian

Shelton Benjamin

John Bradshaw Layfield

Batista

Randy Orton

Other

Well yea...for obvious reasons. Both of them.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Triple H’s Pedigree

JBL’s Clothesline From Hell

Randy Orton’s RKO

Kidman’s Shooting Star Press

Rey Mysterio’s 619

Other

Batista's Pimp clothesline...I mean, it's been sold as death since it's debut...

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title

The Lita Pregnancy Angle

Evolution takes out Orton

Eric Bischoff’s “nephew” Eugene

The new Bradshaw

Other

Mainly beccause...well none of them would be considered a 'favorite' of mine. Benoit's chase IMO was in ways...spoiled, by HBK. Still have a great picture in my mind of Benoit winning the title...but the HHH Roman thumbs up/down thing, and the look on Orton's face, was just as priceless.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels

Eddie Guerrero vs John Bradshaw Layfield

Chris Jericho vs Christian

Mick Foley vs Randy Orton

Randy Orton vs Evolution

Other

Can't really...pick/think of one...

MATCH OF THE YEAR

The 2004 Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble 2004)

Eddie Guerrero vs Kurt Angle (Wrestlemania XX)

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX)

Mick Foley vs Randy Orton (Backlash 2004)

Eddie Guerrero vs John Bradshaw Layfield (Great American Bash 2004)

Other

I liked it..that simple.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW – Dec 2003)

Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW - April 2004)

Chris Jericho vs Christian (Steel Cage Match) (Monday Night RAW – May 2004)

Triple H vs Chris Benoit (60 Min.Iron Man Match) (Monday Night RAW – July 2004)

John Bradshaw Layfield vs Eddie Guerrero (Steel Cage Match) (SmackDown! – Aug 2004)

Other

Man...that's weird..because I don't even like either of these guys. But I don't deny that it was a great match. Especially for RAW. (But if it was in Dec...wouldn't that not be up there?)

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestler Of The Year: Chris Benoit

Why? A.) Because he carried Kane to a ***-ish match, went over both HHH & HBK clean, and has only done 1 clean job in 2004. And because he's my favorite as a mark.

Tag Team Of The Year: La Resistance

Why? Rob Conway is improving at the level of WWE, and Sylvain Grenier hasn't sucked as much as he did previous year.s Plus, besides them the only real credible teams are those damn stale Dudleys.

Newcomer of the Year: Gene Snitsky

Why? Because everyone else on the list sucks. Eugene is the only exception, but the gimmick has gotten to the point of annoying. Snitsky punting the doll into the crowd wins the voting.

Most Improved Wrestler Of The Year: Batista

Vote Change: Pimping Batista owns JBL. JBL is a close second though. Benjamin already ruled, Christian won't get any better, and Orton, although improved, is still as a dull as dirt in long matches.

Finisher Of The Year: Triple H's Pedigree

Why? The only REAL credible finisher anymore.

Angle of the Year: Benoits World Title Journey

Why? The only angle that made me act markish for the first time in years. The Rumble match had me on the edge of my seat, all the way until the final moments of WM XX.

Feud Of The Year: Mick Foley vs. Randy Orton

Hate to say this, but it's the only credible feud. The 3-Way was thrown together, Eddie/JBL was the same old racist vs. Eddie stuff, Y2J vs. Xtian dragged on endlessly, and Orton is pissing everyone off with his crappy pose vs. Evolution.

Match Of The Year: WM XX Triple Threat

Considering Triple H's limitations, and the overall hit or miss for Triple Threats, it was a great match that had fans on the edge of their seats for every near fall or submission.

TV Match Of The Year: Other: HHH vs. Shelton Benjamin

I DQ HHH/HBK since it happend in 2003, Benoit/HBK left a sour taste in my mouth as did the Iron Man, the Jericho/Christian cage was pedestrian, and JBL/Eddie also had a shit finish. HHH (as clean as possible) jobbing to Benjamin in a pretty good 20:00 match on regular TV takes my vote, as it showcased that Benjamin was good enough for a singles push, and that HHH is willing to sell for other people.

Best PPV of 2004: Wrestlemania XX

Nothing else really compares. The Rumble had a horrible under-card, NWO sucked outside of the last 40 minutes, Backlash was WM Part II, Judgment Day sucked, Great American Bash sucked, Bad Blood was down-the-middle, Vengeance was slightly better than Bad Blood, Summerslam was pretty bad, Unforgiven was completely forgetable, No Mercy was iffy, Taboo Tuesday...HA, and Survivor Series was a major letdown.

Wow...WWE had way too many damn PPV's in 2004.

I agree with absolutely everything that LooneyTune mentioned, although I'd give best newcomer to Luther Reigns, as he's a decent talker, has a good look and has been a part of some okay matches.

Gene Snitsky's homoerotic confrontation with Heidenreich is what allowed Luther to get my vote. That shit was horrible.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit

RAW was all about Benoit from the Rumble onto about June, when he took a backseat to HHH, HBK, Eugene, and Orton. Out of everyone, he probably delivered the most good matches this year, and I loved his run from the Rumble onto Backlash. Eddie was a close second, and he had to feud with Bradshaw for months. I was an Orton fan from the very beginning of the year up until about 2 weeks into his face turn. Now I can't stand his character.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

La Resistance

They might as well have been the only normal team on Raw, except for the Dudleys who went to Smackdown in April. I loved their Tag Title win in Quebec, and their extended run with the belts made them actually seem credible.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Gene Snitsky

Too many horrible newcomers this year. Tomko still sucks, Kenzo improved a LITTLE, I hate Eugene, and Luther still does nothing for me. Meanwhile, while Snitsky isn't exactly above many of the above, he's at least entertaining. Sure, he is basically a joke to everyone, but he punts baby dolls into the crowd. Now if he would only start saying "It's not my fault!" more often...

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Batista

Christian is about the same good wrestler he's been all along, IMO, just without as many restholds. Bradshaw definitely has a great gimmick, but his in-ring skills aren't good enough to be called most improved. I think Orton's about the same as he was all year almost. It comes down to Shelton and Batista. The thing with Shelton is that he didn't improve nearly as much as Batista because he's always been on this level since the WGTT days. Batista has improved leaps and bounds both as a character and in the ring.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Kidman’s Shooting Star Press

By the end of the year, I began to hate the RKO, if only because of Orton's extended arm pose before he does it. Nothing great this year except the SSP which is basically treated like death on Smackdown.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title

Just a great story from the beginning, starting in December 2003 with Brock and Heyman up until beating both HHH and HBK again at Backlash 2004. I was really skeptical about Benoit randomly going to Raw after winning the Rumble instead of going after Brock, but it was alot better than I thought it would've. I would've loved to see Brock vs. Benoit II at WM XX, though. In retrospect, had Benoit actually stayed on Smackdown, then Eddie would've likely been kept in the mid-card for another few months at least. Weird...

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Mick Foley vs Randy Orton

While I loved Benoit's journey to the title, I never actually cared for the set-up to the 3-way at WM. HBK falsley signs a contract and he gets the right that the winner of the Royal Rumble gets? As we all said back in March, remind me to steal a WWE contract so I can get into a big match like that. Now, onto Foley-Orton. It was built perfectly from the start. I marked out for Foley entering the Rumble and taking out Orton. The handicap match at WM was great, and the match at Backlash was a perfect blowoff that put Orton over HUGELY with almost everyone. This was a feud that actually made total sense and was given a solid build of about four months. Now we're usually lucky to get a feud with over a one month build.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

The 2004 Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble 2004)

I was there live in the front row, and it was just a great experience. I've watched it on tape many times since then and I still call it the best Rumble ever, even better than 1992. The match had many great moments, including Benoit & Orton lasting long, Foley eliminating Orton, Brock F5ing Goldberg, Angle tossing Goldberg, and Big Show dominating everyone. Show's monster role was played to perfection, eliminating Cena, RVD, Jericho, Angle, but not Benoit, who smartly managed to eliminate Show. The final ten minutes are just incredible. The five matches listed here are probably my Top 5 matches for 2004, with Eddie-Brock taking a CLOSE second.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW - May 2004)

Uh, HHH-HBK happened in 2003, so I threw that one out. Jericho-Christian in the cage was good, but overrated. I think you mean the Showdown in the Desert HBK-Benoit match, but that happened in early May, not April. It was a great TV main event, given a good build that Benoit couldn't beat HBK, going back to their first match in March. The only bad part was obviously HHH's interference.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX

Nothing else except Backlash came close, unless Armageddon really surprises everyone, but not likely. The show was definitely too long, but the 3-way, Angle-Eddie, Jericho-Christian, and the Handicap match are all worth it. The entire show had an epic feel, and seeing Benoit win the title was a great moment. Backlash had the same 3-way and Foley-Orton, but nothing else. WM gets the nod.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Tie

Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero - Benoit because this was just 'his' year and Guerrero for winning the belt and putting over Bradshaw. Not to menion working a full schedule when he should have been taking some extra time off.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Rico and Charlie Haas - interesting and had potential until WWE screwed it up.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene - this year wasn't much for debuts but at least Eugene made me laugh most of the summer

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Randy Orton - when from having the stigma of 'time to turn on football' to putting on some really good matches (although some still hate him, but that's OK)

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Benoit's Crossface - ouch

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title - I was lucky enough to be at the rumble and at Mania...nothing beats this.

Another Angle of the Year could be the recent focus on the Raw World title. It should be interesting to see how thing play out with Edge, Batista as well as all the other guys going after HHH

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels

honorable mention goes to the other great feud - The Smarks vs. The diva search!

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX)

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Maven vs. Triple H - not the best technically but any match that makes me think Maven will win the world title has to be pretty good.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit 18 years of waitng for his chance...on the biggest stage...he gave us *****, or damn near as close as we've seen in a while. You can question his mic skills or charisma, but you cannot question his ability and his heart.

WORST WRESTLER: HEIDENRIECH. God, I hate this guy..

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance---For lack of anything else out there. Although, I do like Regal and Eugene.

SPECIAL MENTION:Chris Benoit. Well, he WAS Tag Team champ.

WORST: Everyone of the thrown -together- because- we- have- nothing- better- for- you- teams, minus RVD and Rey, who are just a natural pairing

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene---Years of work at OVW and nothing. Finally, a gimmick pulled from the pages of theSmartmarks.com (you know it's true)...and Nick Dinsmore is still going, still making it work, somehow. Gotta give the guy credit.

Worst: No. Not HEIDI. ALL of the Diva chicks.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Shelton Benjamin---From being a "really good Tag-Team wrestler with an excellent future" to "a really good Singles wrestler with an excellent future". Each week he seems to bring a fresh energy to the show. He seems to add a new move every few weeks, and can go toe-to-toe with the entire roster. Screw Orton...this guy's legit.

Least Improved: John Cena. The guy needs to turn heel. The lovable thug thing is tired.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Triple H’s Pedigree---only because when it gets set up, a low groan emits from inside me. Boredom. And it's the only one that is established as a THIS IS OVER NOW type of finisher.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Not one freakin' angle mattered or was done right this year. Sure, Benoit won the title, but, it was like he was the 3rd wheel in HHH and HBK's ego blowjobs. The closest I could say would be Foley vs. Orton. Which was my...

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Mick Foley vs Randy Orton---Man, oh man, this one was almost perfect. I'll admit, I'm a Foley mark. I love watching his promos, and his matches somehow always seem interesting when he's up for it. This got Orton up to IC Title status in my eyes, and should have prepared him for the big time.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX)

For the first time in years, I was cheering for something that is "fake". I cheered for something that is "predetermined". I was yelling, as I'm sure some of you are, TAP TAP TAP, TAP YOU MOTHERFUCKER TAP!". It was an amazing match.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs. Benjamin. Their first match. I loved seeing it. Years from now, when Shelton wins the TNA World Championship at Victory Road in a 3 way against AJ Styles and CM Punk in front of 90000 at the Superdome, and Triple H is winning his 17th title in front of 1000 people in Auburn, WA...I'll think back to when it all started for Shelton.

It saddens me, that there is NO WAY in hell that Shelton will be a REAL champ as long as HHH is around.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX---a Great Main event, an almost great Smackdown main, a fun 5 man tag, and a decent Cruisermatch. Minus Brock/Berg and TakerTexasRanger/Kaaaaaane matches, almost perfect.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Triple H

While four of these five wrestlers shone at some points during the year and treaded water at others (though largely that was in the hands of the booking), Triple H has been consistently excellent on top of Raw for the last twelve months and almost every major angle and every new star that got over somehow went through the Game. Sure he uses his stroke, but he's about the only true star maker left in the company and aside from competing in some incredible matches with Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels, he has helped elevate Randy Orton, Batista, Shelton Benjamin, Maven and Eugene and put Benoit over clean via tapping at Wrestlemania and put Shelton Benjamin over big time twice this year. Love him or hate him, HHH is the glue that holds Raw together and deserves the nod this year.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR: La Resistance

Rob Conway is quietly developing as the sleeper future star of Raw, Sylvan Grenier has developed into more than Patterson's eye candy and if they had anyone consistent to work with it would be obvious that they are a suprisingly solid in the ring. Their promo skills are pretty good, they work well together, generate some good midcard heat and have one of the coolest finishers ever. They are the only real team on the roster aside from the Bashams in my eyes, and they have worked with everyone from Regal to Eugene to The Rock to Benoit and Edge this year. My vote would go to La Resistance easily.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Eugene.

This one is really tough. I have a really hard time giving it to a guy who has only been in the company on television for two months, and as much as I would like to just say the hell with it and vote for Carlito, I have to give the nod to Eugene. Nick Dinsmore spent more time in OVW than more or less anyone on the active roster, and he deserved his immediate success. Eugene was the most over character on Raw after only a few weeks, revitalized Steve Regal's career and is still incredibly over. The gimmick has a short shelf life, but the rest of the field blends together as mediocre lugs.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER: Christian

This was the hardest category to determine for me personally. I can't remember I have seen and heard of someone working so hard to improve so much as Batista has. Batista deserves so much credit. His ring work, fire, character, crowd involvement and all aspects of his game have improved. Arn Anderson always puts Batista over as a guy who is always asking him to watch and critique his matches. He'll go on to be bigger than Orton some day, guaranteed. Shelton Benjamin didn't really improve in my opinion. He has always been incredible, he just got more of a chance to showcase himself. Randy Orton and Bradshaw have improved by leaps and bounds, but I have to give the nod to Christian. Christian is an inspiration to the lower card guys treading water wondering when they will get their chance to shine. He has come from being in Edge's shadow to now being BETTER than Edge. He's better on the mic, better in the ring and better in keeping the crowd involved in his matches. His confidence seems like it has skyrocketed, by himself or with a stable he's one of the very best heels in wrestling and a future main eventer if they ever really got behind him. His ring work has really improved and he has added some great moves, the Unprettier is one of the few finishers left in wrestling that always results in a three count and the guy once lost in the shuffle now ends up on all pay-per-views in solid matches. The guy is just incredible all around and is easily one of the two MVP's of Raw along with Chris Jericho. It's been an excellent year to be a Peep.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR: Crippler Crossface

No real reason aside from it being cool to see HHH tap to it at the biggest show of the year.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR: Randy Orton's continuing episode with Evolution.

FEUD OF THE YEAR: Chris Jericho vs. Christian.

Great, old school fued that spanned half of the year, put Christian on the map and never had a dull moment.

MATCH OF THE YEAR: Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX)

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR: Other

If Brock Lesnar/Kurt Angle Ironman happened during the last twelve months, I'll take that. Otherwise I'll go with HHH/Shawn Michaels from last December.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR: Wrestlemania XX

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero - Eddie Guerrero as World Champ was once unthinkable, but he did a great job of it before jobbing it to JBL. If the intial JBL push hadn't been so rushed, and he had been put over more prior then it would have been better for both men. After that he had a run with Angle, which was good in the ring but not so good outside it, before moving to Luther and now back into the headline scene for Survivor Series and Armageddon.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance - London/Kidman and Rey/RVD were probably better, but their alliances were only fleeting, and they were never booked as anything important on TV. La Res aren't the greatest tag team ever but they were put into some big matches involving Benoit/Edge and Eugene/Regal.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Gene Snitsky - intentional or not, he has gotten over big with his off-beat character and 'it's not my fault' interviews. Makes a nice variation on the random hoss that WWE likes throwing out there.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Shelton Benjamin - was always good as one half of the WGTT, but has really come into his own as a singles wrestler since the draft. Has been given big wins over HHH and Chris Jericho, has an expanding moveset, and improving mike skills. Should be a main eventer in the near future.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Other - Benoit's Crossface, and Sharpshooter. Made both HHH and HBK tap out, and the move has been booked as a sure fire finisher.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Other - The Wedding from Hell. I haven't cracked up like that since Austin/Angle/McMahon in 2001.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Chris Jericho vs Christian - The had some good matches, and the team of Christian/Trish was very entertaining.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Other - Eddie vs Brock Lesnar, No Way Out 2004. Great execution, allowing for a Goldberg run-in where Brock kicked out, and then Eddie picks up the cleaner win after that. His post-match celebration was one of the highs of the year, as the fans were allowed to soak it up with him, while Cole and Tazz shut the hell up.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

John Bradshaw Layfield vs Eddie Guerrero (Steel Cage Match) (SmackDown! – Aug 2004)

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Royal Rumble 2004 - The rumble match was in the top five best Rumbles ever, and HBK/HHH was good with a bad ending. Everything else was a bit rushed, but at least it set up Guerrero for his World title run by putting him over Chavo clean, and put a bullet in Bob Holly's main event push.

This is a damn good point. I was at MSG and remember screaming out loud "tap you son of a bitch!!! Just tap!" - Mtach was all out great.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit - This was his year, period.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance - They're really the only credible team. If Rhyno and Tajiri had actually stayed as a team and won the belts, they'd be here. But, alas...

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Gene Snitsky - It was basically him or Eugene, and Dinsmore's act got real tired real fast.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Batista - Compare his dreadful performances in 2003 to his matches now. He doesn't look completely lost anymore. Plus, he's a snappy dresser.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Triple H’s Pedigree - Like other's already said, it's the only one really treated as death.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title - The only one of that list that had an intriguing storyline with a solid payoff.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Mick Foley vs Randy Orton - This one made Orton a credible IC champ.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Other - Eddie Guerrero vs Brock Lesnar (No Way Out). The WM three-way is close due to markout value, but this one is the better overall match.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW - April 2004) - Great match except for the end. Honourable mention to the first Benjamin/HHH match in April.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX - Both title matches delivered and a solid undercard to boot.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero-He's kept me consistently entertained both in the ring and on the mic. Yes, his JBL feud was typical racial stuff, but at least both played their parts well.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

RVD and Rey Mysterio-Simply put, this may be a mash up, but it's a good one. These guys have been delivering consistently entertaining performances even against Jindrack and Reigns.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Heidenriech-Haven't seen any good newcomers this year, but Heidenriech entertains me in the same way Snitsky entertains everyone else. I mean, c'mon, he wears a straight jacket, reads bad poetry, and rapes Micheal Cole. What's not to like? Although I'm not sure he should count, due to his RAW stint... Oh well.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Batista-Maybe it's just the fact that he constantly wrestles Benoit, but I don't dred his matches anymore, and his pimp look makes up for his lack of charisma.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Victoria's Widow's Peak-C'mon, even though we don't see it much, it's just brutal looking, and is DEATH.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Eddie battles demons/Brock Lesnar-Eddie's performance here really made him more than a hot mid-card somewhat comedic act, and was simply great, compelling stuff.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero-I figured this would be forgotten, since it wasn't at the main event level and happened at the begining of the year, but this was just a perfect example of how to do a gradual heel turn. Sure, we all saw it coming, but that didn't dull the impact when Chavo turned on Eddie. Yes, the match wasn't given enough time to develop, but the post match beating sold me on the conclusion to the feud.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar (No Way Out)-Well, I guess I seem Eddie crazy right now, but this was just a classic match. It was the perfect way to tell the extreme underdog story, and still give Eddie a believable and satisfying victory. Yes, I could have done without the Goldberg stuff, but I can see why it was neccesarry, and in the end it was still all about Eddie outsmarting his opponent to get the win.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs. Shelton Benjamin (the first encounter)-Well, this is how you get a new guy crazy over. It was just a great match with a mostly clean finish, that didn't make Triple H look weak at all. I was on the edge of my seat for the last few minutes knowing I was seeing something special.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX-This is the only PPV that kept me entertained begining to end, and it was easily the biggest show of the year.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit

Benoit's brought the good to great wrestling all year. That is what counts.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Others

London & Kidman. Great, out of nowhere title win and TV time for London. Good stuf..

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Luther Reigns

Damn hasn't a good wrestler debuted this year?

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

John Bradshaw Layfield

Tough choice, as my first thought was to vote for Christian, Orton, or Batista. Then I realized that Bradshaw has went from "Find something else to do why he's wrestling" to "I'm buying this just to watch JBL wrestle!" He's just gotten good. Great matches with Eddie and a perfectly fine match with 'Taker.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Other

Batista's Clothesline and Powerbomb. Getting hit with one of those equal death... and they look better than the Pedigree.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

The new Bradshaw

I love the new Bradshaw character, his journey to the title, and his subsequent attempts at keeping it.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero vs John Bradshaw Layfield

I guess, technically, Foley/Orton was better, but this one brought the better wrestling.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Other

Brock Lesnar vs. Eddie Guerrero (No Way Out) How can this classic not be listed?

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW - April 2004)

Best match on the ilist. Couildn't think of anything else.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Summerslam 2004

My favorite PPV this year, definately. The really fun 6-Man tag, Kane/Hardy, Eddie/Angle, Taker/JBL, and Orton/Benoit really made this a good one.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit.

He constantly had good-great matches and had them with a variety of wrestlers.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance

God, the tag divisions sucked this year. Time to step them up or ditch them.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene.

For his popularity if anything.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Shelton Benjamin.

He made the transition from tag wrestler to singles wrestler better than the majority of guys have. Here's to him being a big part of WWE's future.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Other: Five Star Frog Splash.

He can be the biggest jobber in the world, but for some reason, RVD's finisher is always protected. And for good reason.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title.

The only angle even worth mentioning this year.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels.

Produced two good triple threat matches and other good singles matches. Sounds good to me.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX).

I can't think of another match (okay, maybe the RR match) that I'll look back so fondly on.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW – Dec 2003).

Techinically, not this year. But since it's on the list, it gets my pick.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX.

Any underwelming year for PPV's this year.

BONUS CATERGORY

COMEBACK OF THE YEAR

Why, that'd have to be Edge of course!

Man you guys have some idiotic choices...

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit & Edge

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene, I suppose. Most TV main events and storyline focus, although Snitsky main evented a PPV. Not a great choice of candidates.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Randy Orton.

Christian has gotten SO bad. Benjamin hasn't improved, he's always been fantastic. JBL has a better character but still can't work a lick. Batista is useful in tag matches only.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

***TIE*** Benoit's Sharpshooter and Crippler Crossface?

Here is why:

Triple H tapped out in the main event of WrestleMania.

Shawn Michaels tapped out in a PPV main event.

Kane tapped out.

Let's move on. This is easy.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Ugh...it would either go to the "Bischoff/Top Faces Finally Revolt Against Evolution" storyline or "Kidman Turns into an Asshole".

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Mick Foley Vs. Evolution (and specifically Orton).

MATCH OF THE YEAR

The 2004 Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble 2004)

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

I didn't rate ANY one of the given choices anywhere above ** 3/4. From what I remember, Jericho/Orton from Canada was pretty awesome, despite an awful finish. Also, the 8-Man Evo/Foley+Shelton+HBK+Benoit match was quite good.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

WM XX.

But in this rare case...get the VHS, not the DVD. The show is marred by awful low-card and unimportant tag matches.

Yes, let us see...

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Co: Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero

Both have had career years, as far as exposure and high profile fueds/titles. Both have lost a step or three but still manage to drag anything in the arena to something less offensive than anything else on WWE tv these days. Almost perfect mirror images of each other while on their parallel path this year gets them both the glory.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

None, they have nothing but mismatched partners and couple three real teams, and the real teams haven't done enough memorable work to warrant any real mention.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Eugene, I guess.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Shelton Benjamin.

One of the few guys on Raw who has shown an ability to learn and adapt to different roles. Somehow has managed better than almost everyone to not get sabotaged too badly in the process of getting the crowd to believe in him. Future star, to be sure.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Crossface has finished more big matches this year by far.

honorables to The Pedigree and Batistabomb

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero - Cheating Death, Stealing Life...Addicted to heat...

Benoit - road to the title.

Both of these are the only things I've really seen build a connection and appreciation between fan and performer. They were both built on reality and had strong support behind them (title win culmination...tv and dvd specials), and the performers themselves relished and did their parts perfectly

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Benoit/HHH/HBK title hunt.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Eddie Guerrero Versus Brock Lesnar. Eddie wins the title in a match that was like a rose place on top of a barrel of shit. After show celebration is as much a markout moment as Benoit and Eddie embracing in the ring after WM.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

As I recall, all those tv matches sucked my balls. I could be off on that though....I'll just put up the iron man that sucked as the one I think sucked the least.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania 20. It's the only one I've really watched this year, but I'm confident that it rocked balls enough to beat all the others anyway.

Wrestler of the Year: Chris Benoit.

Benoit easily beats out the rest of the roster. Great matches vs Shawn Michaels, Triple H, both of them, got something out of Kane and Orton, and had the best title reign since the brand extension.

Tag Team of the Year: N/A

Most of the WWE's tag teams are thrown togethor, and the only real teams they have are too stale to warrant praise.

Newcomer of the Year: Paul London

He debuted in 03, but he didn't make much of an impact untill this year. London is the best worker in the WWE not named Benoit or Guerrero, and he's really not far behind them.

Most Improved Wrestler: JBL

He still sucks... bad... but if he would have won the belt a year ago it would have been twice as bad.

Finisher of the Year: Kidman's SSP

I haven't seen the WWE put over a move as lethal as they did Kidman's SSP after injuring Chavo.

Angle of the Year: Benoit's journey to the World Title.

It's been building forever... and the payoff delivered.

Feud of the Year: Randy Orton vs. mick Foley

Put the rising star over, and had a pretty good albiet overrated match.

Match of the Year: Lesanr vs. Guerrero

TV match of the year: HHH/Michaels December '03

PPV of the Year: WM XX

I wonder if people are actually reading others' responses:

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit - This was the Year of Chris Benoit, no doubt. From winning the Rumble in January to standing tall as the world heavyweight champion at Wrestlemania XX to keeping that title until August, Benoit has been the man. Excellent job.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

I would say none, but maybe Booker T and RVD? I don't know.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Gene Snitsky - I'd normally say Eugene (what a heartwarming character), but from a smark's perspective, Snitsky has been hilarious.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

Batista - Batista has done a good job from being a generic hoss to actually developing decent ring skills and a distinctive character.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Benoit's crossface - Got to go with what ended one of the better moments in wrestling history.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title - Haha, I sense a general trend here.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Randy Orton vs Mick Foley - This is ALL due to Foley. Tremendous. This was the only wrestling feud this year that showed any semblance of attempting to be creative.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX) - This had me dying in excitement/nervousness.

Honorable mention: the hilarity of Lesnar vs Goldberg.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW – Dec 2003) - Excellent match and I had so much hope for the ring work in 2004. Too bad this was the last of it, really.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX - Had a lot of filler, but the best of the best...WOW.

..anyone gonna tally these up at the end of it to see who won what??

So, here is something I know we'll all enjoy. It's a basic WWE Best of 2004, and I've included all the categories and nominees for each. All you have to do is pick your favorites (or your own depending on the category) and if you'd like, state why you picked who you voted for.

Could start a great discussion on the past year of World Wrestling Entertainment. Here it is:

I would add comments, and I'm sure there are better answers to a few of these categories than what's listed, but I'm tired so I'll just go with the choices provided.

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit

He won the Royal Rumble while setting the longevity record, then made Trip tap clean at Wrestlemania to kick start the best title run in the history of the RAW World Title. It is no coincidence that his title win at Mania marks the first time since the brandsplit that RAW surpassed Smackdown in quality. Of the top five WWE matches of the year, he's in four of them. An easy choice.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

Le Resistance

Almost by default. They had a lengthy reign as champs, and were really the only stable team in the promotion all year long, not counting the jobbed out Dudleys.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Luther Reigns

Made an impact on Smackdown first as Kurt's bodyguard and then in an Eddy feud. He's not great, but he has fulfilled his role well and he's still better than most of the new guys. He's been the most consistant.

MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER

John Bradshaw Layfield

Benjamin was good last year, this year he just got pushed. Christian hasn't done much different than we have seen in the past. Orton & Batista have improved, but not as much as this guy, who went from a waste of a contract with no talent in a deadend 4 year old gimmick to the longest reigning World Champion of the year, and a much improved character. He even improved in the ring, although people will not confuse him with Paul London anytime soon. He's now one of the few reasons I even watch Smackdown.

FINISHER OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit's Crippler Crossface

The move that made HHH tap clean at Wrestlemania.

ANGLE OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title

Easy one here. Best Wrestlemania Main Event angle since Austin challenged Shawn at XIV.

FEUD OF THE YEAR

Eddy Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle

Tough one since aside from Chris Benoit, the actual HBK/HHH/Benoit feud wasn't handled that great. Not many classic feuds this year. Eddy & Kurt feuded off and on all year, producing three good-to-great matches and a nice storyline heading into the Wrestlemania match.

MATCH OF THE YEAR

Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX)

I am sensing a theme with this. My biggest markout moment in a long time, and booked absolutely perfectly as a match.

TV MATCH OF THE YEAR

Chris Benoit vs HHH (Iron Man Match)

Benoit is on here again. This is the match they should have done at Vengeance.

PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR

Wrestlemania XX

The only real brainfarts were Lesnar/Goldberg and the Diva match. That is a pretty good ratio for this company.

Wrestler of the Year:

Chris Benoit

He came, he conquered. His entrance spot in the Royal Rumble combined with his time in the match make the ultimate compliment to having him win it. He left SmackDown! strongly and participated in a ***** match at WrestleMania XX. I loved nothing more than to see him enter each week with the gold over his shoulder, a reign in which he wrestled his heart out. For that, I am eternally grateful.

Tag Team of the Year:

Billy Kidman & Paul London

This came out of left field and reeked more of a smarkish influence than anything else done during the year. Despite the fact that a lot of their matches were spotfests, they were good ones, both are great wrestlers and deserved the spotlight, London in particular.

Newcomer of the Year:

Gene Snitsky

You now, I'd give it to Eugene but his gimmick is really wearing thin. Inadvertent or not, Snitsky is often hilarious in his promos while balancing it out with credible ring work. He also dropkicked a baby.

Almost every newcomer this year has sucked too.

Most Improved Wrestler:

Randy Orton

Bradshaw almost got it, but Orton just beat him. Both for the same reason - they were nothing special before their respective title wins, both of which were very unwelcome at first. Their wrestling has improved out of site since the wins, and their reigns actually haven't been all that bad.

Finisher of the Year:

RKO

Angle of the Year:

Chris Benoit's journey to the World Heavyweight Championship

It really wasn't that great, but it didn't have much to go up against.

Feud of the Year:

Mick Foley VS Randy Orton

Excellence.

Match of the Year:

Triple H VS Shawn Michaels VS Chris Benoit - WrestleMania XX

TV Match of the Year:

Chris Benoit VS Shawn Michaels

I was high for the duration of Showdown in the Desert, so I'm having trouble differentiating them. Both were great though.

PPV of the Year:

WrestleMania XX

By no means a great WrestleMania. In fact, sickenly disappointing, but it bettered everything else this year, and I attribute that to pretty much the Triple-Threat and Eddy/Angle.

Sadly, that card contained a lot of shit and some of the booking for such a show was just upsetting.

An up and down year indeed, but as a whole, disappointing.
