Guest bigm350 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Now I know there's a lot of people who prefer Jericho over HHH. But, I'm trying to make this a somewhat, subjective question. Who's better in the ring? Has better psychology? Has more beleivable offense and sells better? Has had overall better matches, throughout their respective careers? Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 HHH overall is better than Jericho, it's the overexposure that kills him in this arguement...
Guest sarafromsweden Report post Posted November 24, 2004 I vote for Jericho. But I have to give hhh somw credit for actually losing some matches, and for losing the title...of course, the championship was right back around his waist after a short amount of time. but anyway...he is getting better and is really puting some effort in making the matches good now. that´s good. but I still hate him. jericho forever! Guest DeputyHawk Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Objectively Triple-H. But somewhat, subjectively I've got to still go with Jericho.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Jericho is far better at getting a good match out of a limited opponent, has more charisma, has more varied offense and when he's a heel, he's a far better seller. I'd say Jericho.
Guest HeadDropMark Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Triple H is the better all around performer under the present environment. He has size credibility, good psychology, excellent pacing and everything he does looks solid (although never spectacular). The 'less is more' formula works to his advantage and he can work a 'good' match opposite just about anyone. Chris Jericho is a top notch worker who suffers from the limitations of both the way he is booked and the WWE style. He's capable of performing at a faster more athletic pace with a more diverse moveset...yet this is downplayed and negated. He's confined with-in the boundaries that the product encourages and permits. It's a shame because were Jericho 'unleashed' fans would get a better product...with better content, not to mention a much better looking version of the Walls of Jericho! Yet as things stand in execution, HHH is the better performer.
MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Chris Jericho. I've rarely, if ever, seen Triple H have a great match with someone who isn't atleast a "Very good" worker. Chris Jericho carried even Prince I-You-K-Ya to very good matches for God's sake. If you mean presently, still Chris Jericho, though Triple H gets far more time and was wrestling Benoit and Shawn Michaels for the last 1 year.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Chris Jericho is still somewhat of the high flyer that he used to be and he's great on the mic, he also wrestled in Mexico and Japan so there you go.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 24, 2004 It's worth noting that Jericho (along with Benoit and Guerrero for that matter) have all passed their prime, but are still good hands.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Meltzer once rated a Jericho v Viscera match as ***1/2. Assuming such a rating was totally objective, that would probably be the best carry job ever. I think Jericho is better, not only because he is far more versatile, but also because he at least tries different things in various orders when trying to get good matches out of people. With Hunter, you can pretty much call his match yourself, because he sets his spots up in the same way in the same order in every match.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Jericho also got Goldberg's best match in his time in WWE. He carried Kane to one of Kane's best matches ever in September of '02. Christian has done his best singles work across the ring from Jericho. Jericho's faults as a worker are that he will find something that works and suddenly stop doing it because he likes change too much. He's constantly trying to stay fresh, which works both for and against him. He's not as sloppy as he used to be, but it's obvious these days he's working unusually light. Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted November 24, 2004 HHH's problem is he is all over the shows every week. No matter how good of a worker you are, over-saturation will kill you. I like Jericho, but it's been quite a while since he's had a good match on RAW. He's had 2 pretty good matches on Heat with Stevie Richards, but they mean nothing in terms of storylines. HHH will never be the same as he was in 2000 when he was working good-great matches with anyone he wrestled and busted his ass every night. With enough time, minimal amount of run-ins, and a good pacing (i.e not 500 restholds), HHH still can put on good matches. Jericho is much better when it comes to promos. HHH, who can deliver good promos, would rather repeat everything 5x over so he can get 20 minutes, while Jericho can do it all in 5 minutes. Both are pretty fun on commentary when allowed to though. Jericho was the better worker when judging their earlier days in wrestling. Hunter was absolute crap until 1997 when he developed a personality that clicked, while Jericho was having good-great matches as far back as I can remember him wrestling. Spanning over entire careers: Jericho. Promos: It's a push really, depending on if you like quickies or longies. Current Day: Push again, considering Jericho has been given very little to work with, and HHH has been wrestling Benoit and HBK a lot this year.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted November 24, 2004 HHH botches less spots. I'm saying HHH.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 This s a pretty tough question as neither guy is really all that good. Both lack good offense--Triple H's moveset is so pedestrian and sometimes boring while Jericho may be more exciting but is only above RVD and HBK when it comes to really weak looking offense. Triple H is a much better seller and can incorporate that into a match while I don't think I've ever seen Jericho sell much at all. Jericho sometimes acts like an indy worker as he tends to forget about telling a story so he can do the next big spot. Triple H seems to be the exact opposite most of the time. I agree with Hunter's Torn Quad that Jericho does vary up his offense and spots in his matches while Triple H tends to do the same thing every match. Niether guy can really work a crowd during a match--both can do it during promo's, but during their matches Triple H tends to ignore the crowd and Jericho's tries but usually fails to really do anything but get cheap heat or chants by playing to the crowd and ignoring his opponent. After thinking about it, I'd probably say Jericho as he usually tries to do new things and have a good match with everybody.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Just from a workrate perspective, it's Jericho, and it's not really close.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Jericho is a better worker. I'm talking over the course of a career here too. Triple H has let people's weaknesses show way too often and that is something I don't think Jericho has EVER done. Plus, Jericho has had credibility as a worked since at least 95, nobody is going to tell me that Triple H has been a good or even decend worker longer than that. Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 I'd rather watch a HHH match than a Jericho one.
Guest Mickey Al Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Jericho was able to get a watchable match out of Steiner in '03, while HHH stinked up the place with Steiner TWICE. Just saying...
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Vader had quite a shitty match with Sid at Buried Alive in 1996. Does that make him a worse worker than Shawn Michaels because Shawn carried Sid to a good match? Or does Hogan carrying Warrior make him a better worker than Dibiase because he couldn't? Judging by one opponent really doesn't work in this kind of thing.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 my argument. most won't agree but whatever: jericho has wrestled every kind of man, working every work style on a global scale to get recognition. hhh has only worked in the us. look at his matches since he started in the biz. compare it the the matches jericho was having at the same time. i give the guy credit. he can wrestle for an hour if he wanted to, he hangs with a world champ, fucks the bosses daughter, etc. aren't these guys about the same size? i bet jericho can mimick hhh's sig moves in a match if he wanted to. i don't think hhh has the right skill, body, and coordination to copy jericho's moves. just a thought. Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 In 2000, Triple H was having great matches every single night against everyone. For that run alone, he gets my vote.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 it depends on what you're looking for all in all...HHH blows away Jericho with ring psychology and he can put on good matches, good enough for me...
Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 HHH has put on great WWE style matches. That's pretty much all I've seen from him. Ever. He's mastered it, to his credit, but Jericho (while uninspired and limited now) was just better in almost any formula/style match.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 This is a hard one. The HHH of 1999-2001 was almost godlike in the quality of his matches. Hes definitely lost a step or three since his quad injury, but I still see more quality performances coming from HHH than Jericho, and look forward to seeing HHH wrestle more-so than Jericho. However, I think that if HHH somehow survives RAW with the title next week, and Jericho takes his title shot, we will have a VERY good match main eventing RAW in 2 weeks. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Jericho also got Goldberg's best match in his time in WWE. Absolutely. However, one should not discredit Goldberg's effort in that match, as he sold the shoulder like a pro and really helped make the match. He always needed someone like Jericho who could bump their asses off for him in order to really shine, and Bad Blood is the prime example there. I don't think Jericho is all that good on the mic anymore, to be honest. Go back and witness the greatness that was his WCW run in '98 and you'll know what I mean. Jericho's shit these days is the same unfunny, repetitive crap that Cena is dogged for on a regular basis. As for overall worker, I vote Helmsley.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Jericho. He's far better at getting good stuff out of limited guys, generally his matches are better and his best work is as good as HHH's. And Jericho has shown he can work a wider variety of matches. If you look at their common opponents, the majority of them had better matches with Jericho (Angle, Michaels, Goldberg, Benoit, Kane, Steiner, Nash, Van Dam etc. and arguably Rocky all had better matches with Jericho). In 2000, Triple H was having great matches every single night against everyone If this isn't the biggest load of bullshit I've ever seen, then I don't know what is. Si82 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 This is a really difficult question to answer. As far as psychology I will have to go with Triple H. I don't like the guy but he certainly beats Jericho in this respect. Neither of them really have very beleivable offence. But I'll go with Jericho becuase I feel he has the better selling and matches. Jericho, as it has been mentioned, has gotten decent matches out of limited workers. When comparing the workers both men have worked with I would say that Jericho has had the better matches. I know Triple H had his hot-streak in 2000 but since then his career has been patchy. Jericho has also had dodgy matches but certainly not on the scale of Triple H who took forever to get back into his groove following his injury in 2001. Enigma 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 In 2003, Jericho got a very watchable match out of Kevin Nash on an episode of RAW when HHH couldn't do it in two PPV main-events. Jericho.
Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 If you look at their common opponents, the majority of them had better matches with Jericho (Angle, Michaels, Goldberg, Benoit, Kane, Steiner, Nash, Van Dam etc. and arguably Rocky all had better matches with Jericho). Most of those opponets are arguable. HHH vs Angle never clicked well at all, yet Jericho/Angle never did anything stand out either. Advantage : No one. HHH vs Michaels on Raw in Dec. '03 outclasses Jericho/Michaels WMXIX. I love the XIX match but Jericho's incredibly loose and uncredible Walls hurt, plust the selling and psychology of HHH/Michaels is far better. HHH 1 Jericho had better matches w/ Goldberg than HHH ever came close two. Both of his 1 on 1 encounters were infinitly better. Jericho 1 I would have to arfue that HHH/Benoit/HBK (both) and HHH/Benoit Ironman plus Vengeance and certainly HHH/Benoit from 2000 can equal Benoit/Jericho's few WWE matches. Tied HHH/Kane chain match from JD 2001 is better than any of the crap Jericho/Kane have churned out the many times they've hooked up. HHH 2 HHH/Nash HIAC Bad Blood 2003 is not good, but Nash underselling for Jericho in the hair vs hair and any other match where Jericho played bitch with Nash isn't as good. HHH 3 The Jericho/Steiner match blew, but not as hard as the 2 HHH/Steiner encounters. Jericho 2 Jericho had far better matches with RVD. Jericho 3 End Result: Even based on your examples the guys are dead even as far as matches with opponents.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted November 25, 2004 HHH vs Angle never clicked well at all, yet Jericho/Angle never did anything stand out either. Advantage : No one. Jericho-Angle wasn't stand out, but HHH-Angle was always pretty bad. I'd say avantage Jericho. HHH vs Michaels on Raw in Dec. '03 outclasses Jericho/Michaels WMXIX. I love the XIX match but Jericho's incredibly loose and uncredible Walls hurt, plust the selling and psychology of HHH/Michaels is far better. Yeah, probably. I forget about the December match. I would have to arfue that HHH/Benoit/HBK (both) and HHH/Benoit Ironman plus Vengeance and certainly HHH/Benoit from 2000 can equal Benoit/Jericho's few WWE matches. I'm talking singles matches, so the 3-ways don't count. Singles wise, no Benoit-HHH match has even come close to the best Benoit-Jericho matches in the WWF/E alone. And that's not taking into account their match at the '95 J Cup. Jericho wins this easily. HHH/Kane chain match from JD 2001 is better than any of the crap Jericho/Kane have churned out the many times they've hooked up. Jericho got a very good match out of Kane on RAW, as has been stated somewhere in this thread already. Certainly better than any Kane-HHH match I've seen. HHH/Nash HIAC Bad Blood 2003 is not good, but Nash underselling for Jericho in the hair vs hair and any other match where Jericho played bitch with Nash isn't as good. Another easy win for Jericho. Hair vs. Hair was better, regardless of whether Jericho 'played bitch'. HitC was garbage. Horrible match, horribly booked. End Result: Even based on your examples the guys are dead even as far as matches with opponents. As you can see, I strongly disagree. I really don't see how anyone could argue that HHH's singles series with Benoit was as good as Jericho's. Especially not the Iron Man match.
