Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Moving on a great little holiday theme, I found an article that sums up how I feel as a Packer fan this Thanksgiving.. I am thankful that the Packers did not give up when they were 1-4. This shows the character of the team. Vince Lombardi once said, "It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get back up." The Packers got back up and are now tied for first in the NFC North. There's still a lot of season left and the Packers have a good chance to win their third straight NFC North title, but it should be entertaining regardless of the outcome. I am thankful that the Packers play in the greatest stadium in the NFL. Lambeau Field is a unique place to watch pro football with a storied history, great sight lines and a special atmosphere. John Madden called Lambeau a "shrine to pro football." He's right. There is no place in the NFL quite like Lambeau Field. And now that it's been remodeled, it's here for the long haul. I am thankful for Brett Favre and for the simple joy of watching him play quarterback over the past 13 seasons. His talent, courage and durability are wonderful to watch, but the best part about Brett Favre is the simple joy he has for the game. Football is supposed to be fun and when you see Brett Favre having fun on the field, you enjoy the game that much more. Plus with Brett in the huddle, you feel like your team always has a chance. He may play the rest of this year, he may play five more years, but when he's gone, I'll miss him. I want to enjoy the moment, so I'm thankful for Brett. I am thankful for the Packers offensive line. Offensive linemen are all guts and almost no glory yet the Green Bay offensive line is something special. Why has Brett Favre started 199 consecutive games? A large part of it is that he spends less time on his back than almost any quarterback in the league. It's a joy to watch a unit like the Packers offensive line play so well together for so long, something we don't get to see much in the modern NFL. I'm thankful for players like Grady Jackson and Antonio Chatman who remind us that athletes come in all shapes and sizes. I am thankful for the Packers' glorious history...12 World Championships, the most of any NFL franchise...and for names like Lambeau, Blood, Hutson, Canadeo, Starr, Lombardi, Davis, Nitschke, Hornung, Taylor, Adderley, Brockington, Carr, Lofton, Coffman, Dickey, Sharpe, Favre, McCarren, Green, White, Butler and Sharper (to name a few). I am thankful that Packer football is still played in the snow, the rain, the wind and the mud. Have the Vikings been the same since they went indoors? The Lions? Football was meant to be played in the elements, not in somebody's living room…And the tundra will soon be frozen… I am also thankful that more teams are returning to natural grass surfaces instead of playing on artificial turf. It cuts down on player injuries and a football game just doesn't look right if the players don't have some grass and dirt stains on their uniforms. I am thankful for the Bears, the Vikings and the Lions. Sure, I don't like these teams, but rivalries make the game more fun (especially when the Packers win). What's better than beating the Vikings, Lions or Bears? What's more gut wrenching than losing to them? Bring it on in the black and blue division. That just about sums up my feelings. I'm also thankful as a Laker fan to see Kobe still out there making plays, and getting to the NBA Finals last year. Sure, it wasn't a great ending to the season, but it was a fun season and not many teams have the privilege of being perennial contenders like the Lakers have. So, I'm thankful for that as well. (awaits slew of Red Sox posts)
Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm thankful for Ben Roethlisberger, who was the missing piece in what was a terrible team last year. Those of you who assume that the Steelers have been godly on defense and offense for years are delusional. This team caught a spark when he came on the field. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 Im thankful Chicago beat Green Bay in Green Bay and Im thankful the Chargers hasn't embarrassed me yet.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 25, 2004 People easily forget the Steelers have had a great team for a while, but injuries and free agency bring a team down immensely. These were the same guys who dominated the NFL in 2001 until they got beat in the AFC Championship game by the eventual champion Patriots. Maddox was a good quarterback, but BenRo has been smart. Especially for his age.

MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm Canadian, but here goes... - I'm thankful for Willis McGahee, who helped light a spark under the Bills offense, and while it's too late this year, will create hope for next year and beyond. - I'm thankful for the Raptors bench, which is scoring in bunches so far this season, and is picking up the slack for a very inconsistent Vince Carter. - I'm thankful for a rebuilding minor league system of the Blue Jays, with hopes that it might lead to the same sucesses of the past. - While many may not care here, I'm thankful for a fun CFL Grey Cup weekend that I had here in Ottawa, for while the levels of play might not be NFL levels, the parties for five days were sure worth being at. - Finally, I'm actually thankful for no NHL season so far. Because, if there was a season, chances are the Ottawa Senators would've faced disappointment in the playoffs yet again.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm actually thankful for no NHL season so far. Oh yeah, I'm thankful for the fact that with the absence of hockey, all the other sports have felt the need to make up the fighting quota.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I am thankful for Al Harris and Matt Hasselbeck's stupid boasts in OT of playoff games. I am thankful that I won't have to listen to Ron Artest for the rest of the season.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I am thankful for no hockey 'cause the Rangers suck infinity balls. Guest Evolution Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm thankful for the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series so Cubs fans like myself are justified in our whining since we're alone in our misery. I'm thankful for the Lakers getting pounced by the Pistons in the NBA Finals, because I HATE me some Lakers. I'm thankful for the Quad-City Steamwheelers at least making the AF2 playoffs and getting beaten by fluke plays instead of not making the playoffs at all. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm thankful for the new improved Knicks, and thankful that they are still trying to improve the team. I'm thankful for Alex Rodriguez, although he didn't show it this year, i'm hopeful that he will show his "best player in the league" tag the next. I'm also thankful for the Yankees still pursing Randy Johnson. And i'm thankful for the Jets slowly becoming a contender, and thankful that Pennington will be back this year. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm thankful that my QB is actually healthy going into the conference title game this year. I'm thankful I have a freak for RB on my team and he's only a freshman. I'm thankful that my Rugby team wants me to come back next season.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 My favorite teams (Bulls/49ers) suck, so, I can't be thankful for their records. I'm just thankful for the fact that I can watch sports on Thanksgiving, and every other day of the year. (Except for the Summer time, as there are no good sports in the summer) Without sports on Thanksgiving, I'd probably be bored out of my mind, as nothing else on TV is as great to watch as sports. Sass 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2004 I'm thankful that Al Davis is the Raiders owner. That's all I got here. I'm thankful that Kobe Bryant decided to stay with the Lakers. They'll be champs again in 3 to 4 years. I'm thankful that the Dodgers finally made it into the playoffs after past years of finishing like 2 or 3 games from being in 1st and just missing the wildcard. I'm thankful that USC has Coach Pete Carroll. And Norm Chow. They are contenders once again. I will be *very* thankful if cheap skate owner Frank McCourt manages to get Adrian Beltre to resign with the boys in blue. But I have my doubts.

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2004 I'm thankful for Peyton Manning being the best quarterback in the NFL and I'm thankful that him and Marvin Harrison are consummate professionals. I'm thankful for how good the Raptors have gelled(bar Vince) and, especially, for the play of Rafer Alston, MoPete, Loren Woods and Jalen Rose. I'm thankful for the amazing BC/Saskatchewan West final(which blew away almost any NFL game I've ever seen) on the road to the Grey Cup which I saw live and followed up by getting drunk. I'm thankful that T.O. is proving all his doubters wrong.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 26, 2004 I'm thankful that T.O. is proving all his doubters wrong. Umm.. what doubters? Everyone labeled Philadelphia an instant Super Bowl winner with T.O., calling him the final piece of the puzzle and all. Everyone knew and still does about what he was capable of. It's whether it would make Philadelphia truly any better or not. Apparently, many people do think so.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted November 26, 2004 The only "doubt" people had about him was if T.O could maintain his ego and not get in trouble with constroversey. He failed at that but it hasn't hurt the team at all.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 26, 2004 (edited) I'm thankful that I avoided both a total nervous breakdown and jailtime after the ALCS and World Series. I'm thankful that I no longer have to dedicate copious amounts of my time to the affairs of the Boston Red Sox. I'm thankful that my team showed me that I can't assume anything again, because if you try really hard, you can fuck anything up. I'm thankful that we don't have Eric Milton as of yet. I'm thankful that, as pathetic as they looked, the New York Yankees will go down as the only team to put up any kind of a fight against the 2004 Boston Red Sox. I'm thankful that this team showed that money can't buy everything, and even a 200 million dollar team can suck ass. I'm thankful that I'll never see anything quite like that again. I'm thankful that we got the best player in baseball to be the third best player on our team and last guy I wanted anywhere near a big situation. I thought that was kind of cute. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 26, 2004 yeah you guys won 100 games. That team sure sucked ass. They had the biggest collapse in the history of baseball, quite possibly organized sports. They sucked. Regular season wins are like the ceramic dog on the old Wheel of Fortune. An afterthought that you only care about after you got everything you really want.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2004 I'm thankful that the Pacers have reserves who won't spend two months moping around now that we have arguably our three best players suspended. 2-1 since the suspensions. As for the Colts, I'll second the above statement.
