King Tuts doesn't count as a bar venue, cheater.

I saw Vetiver in the hilariously styled Grand Ole Opry in Glasgow last night. Devendra Banhart is a very strange person.

On the vague subject, what exactly is the deal with the new Weezer stuff? I've only heard the first single and "We Are All on Drugs", and the only way I can explain their existence is as being some kind of in-joke or a bizarre satire or something or another.

They were very fun when I saw them on the tour to support Maladroit. They used a computer program to generate the setlists each night; it was designed to make a set that was 2/3 Pinkerton and Blue Album, and 1/3 Maladroit and Green Album. Still, the show was only about 80 minutes. I have no idea what they're doing now.

And, Fooster: it's just really bad. Simple as that.

There's a recent set list, lots of stuff off the new album, barely anything off of Maldaroit, a few of the Green album and the rest is stuff from Blue/Pinkerton. If they a setlist like this it'll be worth the $35 I paid for tickets.

The excellent tracks on "Make Believe:"

This is Such a Pity

Freak Me Out

Haunt You Everyday

The good tracks on "Make Believe:"

Pardon Me

The Other Way

The "Eh" Tracks:

Hold Me

We Are All on Drugs

The Damage in Your Heart

The awful tracks:

They should have built the album around the vibe of Freak Me Out and Haunt You Everyday. Then it would have been an 8.0 album, instead of a 5.0 one.

That's disappointing.  I like the newer material and all, but only four songs before Moon?  They've got such a wide catalogue that they could put on a great show where they really spread out.

I agree. Ive seen them 5 times in the last several months and theyve only played a few older tunes. The setlists are always different and the shows always huge fun but Id still like some Cowboy Dan or something in there.

New twiztid SONG and VIDEO is out called "The story of our lives". I don't like the chorus, but the rapping is alright. The video is just strange.

Despite being full of late-90's pop culture references (lyrics about Sunset Beach, Coal Chamber etc), the Urusei Yatsura album "Slain By Urusei Yatsura" has aged fantastically well and has become maybe my most played album in the last fortnight. The start of "Strategic Hamlets" is enough to make me want to dance like a twat.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I heard the song. Madrox raps pretty quickly on the last verse. Pretty standard Twiztid stuff, though.

Carnival, have you heard Monoxide's solo album Chain Smoker? I keep meaning to look into it, but forget.

I have and it's pretty damn good. I really enjoyed it. Of course it has a few just wack songs on it. But others are really good. I suggest a DL of it. If you can't find it, i can send it to ya, no problem.

Mono is a pretty f'n good rapper. Only Violent J does it better in terms of white boys, who aren't eminem.

Monoxide's always been the better of the two, but Madrox holds down his half well enough.

Rap's not my forte, but I imagine there are better white rappers out there than Violent J, who, while he does have his moments, isn't even close to the level of Eminem. Hell, I think song-for-song, Monoxide's better than J.

There is a big drop after eminem....then Violent J. J has gotten 50x better than he used to be. And he used to be passable. DL "Burning Up" off the Hell's Pit album. It's all J and it's all amazing.

Guys that could be better than violent J. or are close to his level.

Slug, Monoxide, Madrox, Cage, Ill Bill, Necro, Lil Whyte, Copywrite, probably some more that i can't think of at the moment.

Weezer replaced Spoon with another band I've never heard of called the Fray. I checked a video of theirs on their website, they described themselves as a mix between Coldplay and Lifehouse. I was hoping that description was wrong....it wasn't.

Ah well, Weezer is going to kick ass.

I've seen Modest Mouse three times, once shortly before the release of Good News... and twice after. The first two times the sets were about 50/50 Good News / older songs, but the third time was almost entirely Good News stuff. I find it strange that they're still playing so much of Good News live, since the third time I saw them Isaac was clearly pissed off by the very "mainstream indie show" audience, and in the brief chat I had with him he made it very clear that he was resentful of a lot of the new fans who would "be back listening to Usher again a year from now" (or something similar).
