The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Okay, I can't keep up the charade any longer. I don't think Aeroplane . . . is as good as everyone says. Songwriting be damned, it sounds like it was all done on a single mic from Radio Shack, and the whole Elephant 6 thing of using saws and trumpets because they can gets tired. Announcer (talking rapidly): Luke Records would like to acknowledge that all references made in the previous work towards homosexuals is not reflecting anti-homosexual position on our part. Our problem was just homosexuals by the name of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg I consider that an early success.

godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) the best rap lyrics nowadays are far better than the best rock lyrics, if you're looking for inventiveness and use of language. and especially imagery. Edited January 5, 2006 by godthedog

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 I love it, but I have very consistent and rational musical tastes. I got the Beta Band's The Three E.P.'s for Christmas. I think I like it quite a bit, but I can't yet listen to it all the way through. It's much more ambient than I expected.

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Still, the songs from A Ghost is Born came off much better live. I haven't checked out that new live album of theirs—nor will I probably ever—but, from what I've read, it's a solid document of their tour from earlier this year. (On said tour I saw them, but not at the dates recorded for Kicking Television.)

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 in an effort to remain hip on 2005 music, i downloaded several of the albums from pitchforks top 50 list. the only one worth a damn as the hold steady album - which is pretty interesting. even if its talking. there's a certain unsophistication about it that really gets to me. PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 I really am starting to like Luke Haines (Auteurs, Black Box Recorder) but I think it's cos he balances the strings and lead guitar perfectly, not cos he's as great a songwriter as he's cracked up to be. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 What else did you try? As soon as I get back up to school I'm going on a file-sharing binge through a few of those. spoon, sam prekop, dearhoof had tried to devandra & cam'ron earlier, didn't like neither. i had several albums before hand which i liked, such as wolf parade (no thanks to pitchfork!) and silver jews (at inc's behest). k thx 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 Only just got into Broken Social Scene. Good album, very different to YFIIP. Over-produced, but the more beat edged tracks are cool. Also, listened to Takk properly for the first time over the holidays. It's good, but it doesn't engage me.

The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Morrissey's UK tour is thus, 18/4 - Salford Lowry 19/4 - Llandudno Nw Theatre 20/4 - Leeds Town Hall 22/4 - Aberdeen Music Hall 23/4 - Stirling Albert Halls 25/4 - Dundee Caird Hall 26/4 - Greenock Town Hall 27/4 - Glasgow Academy 29/4 - Whitehaven Civic 30/4 - Gateshead Sage 3/5 - Sheffield City Hall 4/5 - Grimsby Auditorium 6/5 - Manchester Apollo 7/5 - Manchester Opera House 8/5 - Manchester Bridgewater 10/5 - Halifax Victoria Hall 11/5 - Blackburn King Georges 12/5 - Liverpool Philharmonic 14/5 - London Palladium 15/5 - Cardiff St Davids 17/5 - Reading Hexagon 19/5 - Portsmouth Guildhall 20/5 - Birmingham Symphony Hall 21/5 - London Palladium 23/5 - Truro Hall For Cornwall 24/5 - Cheltenham Town Hall 25/5 - Oxford New Theatre 27/5 - Kings Lynn Corn Exchange 28/5 - London Palladium Apart from tickets for the Palladium gigs which go sale on Friday, tickets for every other gig go on sale on the 27th which is so fucking annoying. Not only will it be chaos trying to get any, it also makes it fucking hard to try and go to multiple gigs. I *have* to go to all four Manchester ones so they'll be the one's I go for first, and I could be on the guestlist for the Scotland ones so hopefully I won't spend time getting any of them, but trying to get to some other tickets will be hard And of course I've still not paid up my debts from the 2004 tour... God, I need to get a life...
