PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Blonde Redhead is named after a DNA song and Pretty Girls Make Graves is named after a Smiths song. I've never heard a song by either of those bands and don't really ever intend to. fake edit: Oh yeah. Radiohead is named after a Talking Heads song. I guess they're pretty good.
C Dubya 04 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Was Godsmack named after the Alice in Chains song? They're pretty terrible, but still.
Black Lushus Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Was Godsmack named after the Alice in Chains song? They're pretty terrible, but still. yes, Sully was an AIC fan so he names his band after one of their worst songs. Godsmack is horrible, btw.

And the Smiths' song comes from an old Kerouac line. Such a small world.
Epic Reine Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 I was a pretty big Godsmack fan back in junior high and high school before I found my musical niche. Now I see them as a poor man's AIC and can't stand to listen to them anymore.
snuffbox Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Godsmack doesn't actually count as music.

I agree that Godsmack is a horrible band, but have to disagree about the song being one of AiC's worst.

snuffbox Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 POS and Mac Lethal playin a show in Madison Feb 1. That should be fun.
UZI Suicide Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Buckethead's tribute to Ol' Dirty Bastard - guarenteed to be the weirdest thing you watch today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxJBr9PmiUE
Toshiaki Koala Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Has there ever been a good band named after a song? I can't think of any. Bad Brains kick every kind of ass in existence.
Red Baron Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 Today at work I said I Got You Babe was sung by the Monkees. Oof.
Chuck Woolery Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 have any of you guys heard the new michael jackson/youngbloodz collabo? it's called "give it to me" and i'm not gonna lie, i love it.
snuffbox Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Cold War Kids, The Hold Steady, Fountains of Wayne, John Butler Trio, and Uncle Earl have leaked confirmations for this summer's Bonnaroo fest. The biggest rumors have it that Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, The Roots, Modest Mouse, TV/Radio, and ISIS may be there as well.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 I went from kind of liking that new Hold Steady album to absolutely loathing it and I don't really know why. The same thing happened with The Crane Wife.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 I just wanted to show my appreciation for the hottest song in the country, "We Fly High." BALLINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Matt Young Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Godsmack doesn't actually count as music. I loved their first album... everything after has been derivative and boring.
Epic Reine Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 This is old but I still get a kick out of it: http://www.thewebshite.net/nickelback.htm
Red Baron Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 This is old but I still get a kick out of it: http://www.thewebshite.net/nickelback.htm Gee, you just solved every fucking band commerical success then.
snuffbox Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Starting to sound more & more like the Bonnaroo headliners could be the reunited Police, Pearl Jam, and Bob Dylan.
Toshiaki Koala Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 The biggest rumors have it that Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, The Roots, Modest Mouse, TV/Radio, and ISIS may be there as well. Did you capitalize "Isis" because Isis capitalizes it, or because you really like Isis? I can't picture you really liking Isis.
C Dubya 04 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 I've got to say that Bonnaroo has officially moved past its Jam Band origins.
snuffbox Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 None of that is confirmed, but I find it believable. Yeah, they're definitly moving beyond the jamband thing and that is for the best. I really like ISIS. I cant think of too many other bands I'd like to see play for a couple hours in the middle of the night while my brain melts into a skull-encased puddle.

Festivals are the time when I like to see Jambands though. I know that they want to keep getting bigger, but for my tastes I'm less likely to go now.
Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Didn't see it here, but Michael Brecker of the Brecker Brothers died over the weekend. I did a concert with his brother Randy five years ago.
snuffbox Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Roo will still have plenty of jambands (Umphreys, MMW, Slip, MMJ and others are all but confirmed) but I think that the days of Widespread Panic headlining two nights are past.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I've been on a huge Kinks kick lately. Getting over a breakup, listening to their dripping bitterness on songs like Who'll Be the Next in Line? is quite fun.
King Kamala Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Crosby&Nash are going to be doing a show at City Hall in April. Even though they're probably my two least favorite members of CSNY, I'm still considering shelling out $60 to see them. Their voices have seemed to held up better than Stills from the recent live stuff I've heard. It's billed as "An Intimate Evening with Crosby and Nash" so I assume it'll be acoustic with just those two. If B.B. King cancels his show here in May and/or dies. I'll probably buy tickets.
