At Home 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 I'm not actually familiar with Urban Outfitters. And after a quick google search, wouldn't you know one just opened up in my area a week ago. I dislike Urban Outfitters. A lot. Having lived in Huntington Beach, that store seems to be all about 17 year olds trying to be hipsters, or 17 year olds trying to be faux-hippies or whatever they are. Either way, they are shitty. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 http://princefansunited.com/ So is this song some sort of slam on his fans? From what I've read, yes it is. I love Prince's music but I just don't get the guy. I have to just enjoy the music and ignore the fact that he's an eccentric asshole who hates most of his fans. Though you could say that about a lot of popular musicians.

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 I think Jay-Z's "Roc Boys" is the best song on the radio right now. Of any genre.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2007 Not to dis you, brah, but that's the only genre that means anything on the radio anymore.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Heh, I just got offered free tickets for an acoustic performance by Jonathan Davis of KoRn. I'm going to have to say "no" since I really don't like KoRn but I would have gone if it weren't a 75 minute drive. I'm just a sucker for free tickets. That's how I ended up at a Taste of Chaos. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 That R&B shit is something I have difficulty getting into. That's always how I say it, too, not "R&B" but "that R&B shit". Mostly I listen to old fat guys, Luther and them.

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 On a whim I picked up the soundtrack to that new Dylan biopic, "I'm Not There". It's surprisingly good overall. Really aided by having Calexico as the backing band for a bunch of songs and a combo of Nels Cline, Tom Verlaine, Lee Renaldo and John Medeski for a bunch of others. Tracks that I like best so far are Tweedy's "Simple Twist of Fate", Eddie Vedder doing "All Along the Watchtower" (which was really helped by the Nels/Medeski combo playing behind him, added a lot to the music), Iron & Wine/Calexico doing "Dark Eyes" and Stephen Malkmus (sp?) doing "Ballad of a Thin Man". The Flamboyance 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 Saw Broken Social Scene last night. They played a 2.5 hour set and it was just a great show. Perfect venue, perfect sound and I haven't seen a band have so much fun on stage in a long time.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 One of the few reasons music is better now than it was in the 70s- no flute solos. I'm having a hard time recalling a non Jethro Tull song that had a flute solo in it that I like.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I like the new Band of Horses album more than the first Band of Horses album, but I still don't like them very much. Oddly uncompelling band.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 That R&B shit is something I have difficulty getting into. That's always how I say it, too, not "R&B" but "that R&B shit". Mostly I listen to old fat guys, Luther and them. Most shit they call R&B these days is some up tempo bullshit that annoys the hell out of me. I don't listen to most of it. Keys album is great though. She doesn't have the best singing voice, but it just sounds like she sat down with a piano and sang her heart out at the right tempo. meaning if she was in concert, she won't stop and start doing some new dance move for 15 minutes with a headset on as she lipsyncs her song. That is what R&B is supposed to be. Like Boyz to men. It was 4 dudes, some stools and wanya dropping to his knees screaming at the end of everysong. THATs what I'm talking about. godthedog 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 One of the few reasons music is better now than it was in the 70s- no flute solos. I'm having a hard time recalling a non Jethro Tull song that had a flute solo in it that I like. somewhat related to that, i fucking hate harmonica solos in songs. the average performer can do 2, at most 3, things with a harmonica, and every solo sounds exactly the same. dylan's especially bad about it.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2007 I'm indifferent towards harmonica solos- leaning towards dislike. The only harmonica solo I can remember liking was the one for "Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen and that didn't have anything due to the quality of the solo but the fact that my dog would "sing" along to it (he'd do the same when my dad played harmonica but only for dad and Bruce I guess)
