Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 Would anyone with a copy of the new Residents album and a dubious code of ethics be willing to hook me up? My usual sources are drawing a blank.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 I like the title track, but "Let's Go Away for a While" is really boring and lame. The worst track on the album by far. Agreed. To me the major appeal of the Beach Boys are the vocal harmonies anyway, so instrumental tracks are just complete wastes of space.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted November 13, 2006 I've always liked "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow" from the original Smile bootlegs. The modernized production on Brian Wilson's 2004 release doesn't do it any favors, but the original recordings are quite creepy.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2006 The new Residents album, Tweedles, is fantastic. The band has been aging very strangely as of late. Oh fuck, forgot about that. I wasn't keen on some of the stuff they had on myspace, but I liked Animal Lover more than most, so I'm sure I'll check it out. I was resigned to thinking Demons Dance Alone would be the last really really good thing they did, but you never know.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 Axl canceled a Guns'N'Roses show in Portland only hours before it was set to start. I knew a guy who won tickets to the show and then said right off the bat "And don't ask for one cause you're not getting it" which made it all the better when Axl pulled his normal fit. Man Who Sold The World 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 I heard Knights of Cydonia. Terrible. It'd be great for a video game though.
Garth 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2006 I went and saw Art Brut last night and they were brilliant. I can't believe I passed up seeing them the last couple of times they toured.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 17, 2006 So I checked out The Soft Bulletin expecting it to be a masterpiece, but it's not catching on yet. Wayne Coyne tends to sound the same on every song. I love "The Abandoned Hospital Ship" from Clouds Taste Metallic, though.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 i don't see a soft bulletin to be a masterpiece. masterpieces are rare. but its a flaming lips album, which means its great. really great.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 I'm less convinced of TSB as a masterpiece now than I was just a few years ago, but I still like it a whole bunch. And yes, the lowering of it in my estimation is due largely to the last two Lips albums being piss poor rehashes of that particular album's sound.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted November 19, 2006 I think I liked Yoshimi more than TSB. I like Clouds Taste Metallic because it has more guitar than the other two, and that opening track is perfect.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 i really really like yoshimi. like lots.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 My favorite Flaming Lips song is still She Don't Use Jelly. Is that bad?
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 "Yoshimi" is definately my favorite Lips album. My sister has it, and everytime I see her,I ask if I can listen to it. There latest album is kind of "meh" though.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 There are some bands I don't understand people not liking despite them having similar styles to other bands that they like. If you like Megadeth but don't like Metallica (at least the 80's stuff) then something's wrong with you. If you like Motley Crue but don't like KISS, there is something wrong with you. If you like heavy metal but don't like Black Sabbath, you got problems. More examples later.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 Ok. Anyone familiar with the Bon Savants or Lovely Feathers?
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2006 The good songs on Yoshimi are really, really fucking good, and surpass the high points of The Soft Bulletin, but there just isn't enough of them.
Richard 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Mike Watt to work with Kelly Clarkson, who really needs to be wearing makeup 24/7.

Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Mike Watt to work with Kelly Clarkson, who really needs to be wearing makeup 24/7. Meanwhile, Joanna Newsom's never looked more normal/non-elfin creature, there on the front page. She's almost fetching, even.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Ok. Anyone familiar with the Bon Savants or Lovely Feathers? Listened to this year's Lovely Feathers album a few times. I think it's good, but I don't find it terribly memorable.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted November 21, 2006 What is the deal with 30 seconds to Mars other than Jared Leto being the lead singer?
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Absolutely nothing. RE: Epic I agree, to an extent. There was a difference between Crue and KISS, just as there's a difference between Megadeth and Metallica. For one, the danger element. Not once listening to KISS or Metallica do you think that any member of the band could actually fuck you up were you to get into a fight with them. Knowledge of Mustaine's martial arts abilities aside (IIRC, he's a black belt in judo or jiu jitsu), there's enough of an element of danger in the music of Motley Crue (for hair bands, anyway) and Megadeth that makes one sit back and go "alright, these guys are real." That...and Crue wrote better songs than KISS did, and Megadeth were always technically superior to Metallica (the only thing Mustaine didn't have over the 1-2 tandem of Hetfield and Ulrich was pure songwriting ability, as too many Megadeth songs fall into the trap of just waiting for Dave and whoever the other guitarist is at the time [especially Friedman] to trade shreds). If you like heavy metal but don't like Black Sabbath, you got problems. More examples later. There's nothing wrong with liking or disliking certain bands, even if its the same. I'm not a huge fan of Kiss other than a couple of songs, but that doesn't mean I don't respect their business philosophy. It's when people ignore their importance in music history, makes them ignorant tools. You may not like Black Sabbath, but to say they were not important is idiotic. I strongly dislike Led Zeppelin. I don't discourage the fact that they have released great albums in music history, I just don't find whats so good about them that everyone raves about. Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2006 Fair enough Corey, but when I'm listening to music, I don't think nor care about if Dave Mustaine could kick my ass or if Tommy Lee is fucking my girlfriend.
