Hank Kingsley Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Tom Waits - Don't Go Into That Barn
Guest JRE Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Not including songs from the original post I'll add (and sorry if it was in yours and I missed it...) Social Distortion- Reach for the Sky The Used- Take it Away My Chemical Romance- I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Velvet Revolver- Slither Muse- Hysteria (I Want It Now)
The Decemberists Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I will no doubt shock everyone by saying my favourite singles of the year are.... Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart Morrissey - First of the Gang to Die Morrissey - I Have Forgiven Jesus Morrissey - Let Me Kiss You Big surprise I know.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Social Distortion- Reach for the Sky Great fucking song indeed. I quite like "The End of the World" from The Cure. Not the best song on the album, but it was a good choice for a first single.
KanadianKrusty Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 The Used - Take it away Franz Ferdinand - Take me out The Killers - Somebody told me Velvet Revolver - Slither Really not that bad of a year compared to 2003 if you ask me.
SamoaRowe Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 "All You Can Eat" by Ben Folds. Didn't get radio play, was only available online and at concerts, and wasn't probably even meant as a single. But I can't stop listening to it.
Youth N Asia Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Sic Transit Gloria was 2003 wasn't it? And is this just another "best of 2004?" Cause I don't think all the ones first mentioned were or are singles yet.
Nighthawk Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 You know, I really don't mind The Used's "Take It Away", but... it'd be better if they were a different band.
justsoyouknow Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 I agree with Boulevard of Broken Dreams, for sentimental reasons. I can't listen to that song anymore without feeling like I'm going to break down and cry. I agree with IDRM, too. "Let's Go" is awesome.
Guest HungryJack Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Geto Boyz - Yes Yes Y'all. Yep. Let's Go is close. close.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Gwen Stefani _ What You Waiting For
haws bah gawd Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Social Distortion is still around?!?!?!? Our shitty local rock station hasn't played anything by them since, "I was Wrong". I'll have to look for some of their more recent material. I tend to like songs that the majority of people hate, so my top picks of the year are: Word Up and Brick in the Wall - Korn So Cold - Breaking Benjamin My Immortal - Evanescense
Lil' Bitch Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 "Yeah" by Usher ft. Lil' Jon & Ludacris "Lean Back" by Fat Joe ft. Terror Squad "Roses" by Outkast "Its My Life" by No Doubt "Talk About Our Love" by Brandy ft. Kayne West "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce ft. Jay-Z "Toxic" by Britney Spears (God damn radio station)
Edwin MacPhisto Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 "Lean Back" by Fat Joe ft. Terror Squad "Roses" by Outkast You know it was a weak year in radio-play hip-hop when "Lean Back" is the best case you can make for a summer jam. Woof. Also, "Roses" wasn't exactly a good single. It was probably the worst one Outkast had ever offered up, actually, until Andre decided to unload "Prototype" on the public. I can see why they did "Roses" - it's one of the few tracks on the album(s) to include both Big Boi and Andre - but 6 minutes of pure average, loping eh just doesn't cut it. That new Geto Boys single is horrendous. Their shtick is dated, and the "money money money money get that dough" part of Willie D's verse (is it his? I think it is) is one of the worst single lines I've ever heard.

I'll have to look for some of their more recent material. Oh yeah. They released Sex, Love & Rock N' Roll in Spetember and it's fantastic. Check out "Reach for the Sky", "Highway 101", "Footprints On My Ceiling" and "Angel' Wings."
Guest Chasing Dogma Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Crazy In Love" by Beyonce ft. Jay-Z I thought that this song came out in 2003? Anyway for me i'd have to Bad Religion "Los Angeles is burning" Velvet Revolver "Fall to pieces" and "Slither" Green Day "Boulavard of broken dreams"
Guest Coffey Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Anyone heard Velvet Revolver's remake of "Surrender?" That's pretty good. I like "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand too. I don't know, it seems like a pretty week year to me. I spent most of the year getting older music. I did like Kanye's album and the return of Green Day however.

Yea, its not exactly the shining beacon for lyrical complexity, but being an unabashed Geto boyz fanboy will lead me to say foolish things like this. That said, I think the best thing about Lean Back was the bootleg floating around with some Biggie verses on it and just the hook and beat from the original song.
Nighthawk Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 They played that on the radio. Hardly "floating around". I call it the CORPORATE SLEDGEHAMMER!
Murmuring Beast Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 The singles by Franz Ferdinand and Morrissey are the only ones which meant anything this year.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 The singles by Franz Ferdinand and Morrissey are the only ones which meant anything this year. and Gwen Stefani
Guest Nanks Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Have you heard the rest of that album, Banky?? I also love that song and am curious to know if she holds the form over a full album. It's certainly got an all-star producer lineup.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Have you heard the rest of that album, Banky?? I also love that song and am curious to know if she holds the form over a full album. It's certainly got an all-star producer lineup. I couldnt get past song 5. The album is uncomfortably bad. Instead of writing amazing pop songs, she tries to rap and act like Eve. She tries to be eclectic, but really, it strips her of her own identity. What You Waiting For sounded *kinda* like a No Doubt song, and thats when she is her best. Maybe the rest of the album improves, but after the single, the next 4 songs fucking sucked. badly.
Guest Nanks Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Well that's bitterly disappointing. See what you've done now, America, with your hip-hop obsession?? For shame.
Art Sandusky Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Kylie - "Slow." Whattashock. (I liked "Red Blooded Woman" waaaaaay more, but "Slow" sounds like a better song)
Guest HungryJack Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 They played that on the radio. Hardly "floating around". I call it the CORPORATE SLEDGEHAMMER! You forget. I am from Canada. Rap on the radio...does not happen here.
