Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2004 Our pals at ESPN Original Entertainment are at it again, creating a miniseries dramatization of the World Series Of Poker. I don't know why I act like I'm breaking the story, because if you watch ESPN, you've seen the freakin promo a thousand times. "They call him 'The Matador,' for his ability to lure young bulls into the ring and cut them down." So, this is the prolongedness of Playmakers with the quality of Hustle and 3 with the sports legitimacy of poker. I don't want to see Tilt, nor The Making Of Tilt, Your Thoughts On Tilt, The Inspiration For Tilt, The Tits Of Tilt, or any other supplementary programming. Just show some fucking college basketball games or something, ESPN. Geez.
Guest Smues Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Sadly 3 placed 2nd in ratings for the week it aired, so expect to see 100 more of their shitty movies.
Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 This proves my theory that stupid people watch TV.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Even worse, the DVDs for "3" are selling well. It wasn't a bad movie, just incredibly short. And Barry Pepper was actually a damn accurate Dale Sr.
Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Who buys a DVD of a made-for-TV movie? Well, evidently, the people who are transfixed to their TVs as cars dirve left for hours.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 21, 2004 "3" was a okay movie; my only beef was the fake death of his father. Ralph died in the kitchen in the morning. Not in the garage @ night working on the car after giving Dale a big speech. Dale's mom found him, not dale in the shop with the torch still lit. But i guess they had dramatic license and all. Besides that...It was an accurate protrayal. Wished they would have shown more of how he pushed Nascar into the mainstream and how he was a marketing genius. The casting was pretty good too; Pepper was a good choice although at times he didn't look like Sr @ all. Whoever played Theresa nailed her. They spent to much time on the younger age of Earnhardt and rushed his career.
Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 You know, I'm sure 3 was just fine, but it was two things that don't belong on ESPN: NASCAR, and a movie.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Of course. We need more Spelling Bees and Golf.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 21, 2004 I'm telling ya, ESPN is slowly becoming to sports what MTV is to Music. Before you know it the Oxygen network will be playing Rocky marathons.
Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Of course. We need more Spelling Bees and Golf. I never said that's what we needed. Remind me again which fallacy this is?

And it can't possibly be worse than the "unscripted" Mark Burnett show The Casino. Right?

Yeah, if you want to completely forget ESPN had NASCAR for a couple of years till they lost the bidding war with FOX/NBC/TNT

If they can forget they carried hockey, I can forget they carried NASCAR.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Poker is SO overexposed and played out now...they missed the boat. Just bring back Playmakers....but with HOCKEY players!
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted December 21, 2004 They missed the boat? They are the ones that drove Poker into the ground by airing the WSOP non stop this summer.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 ESPN may have added a lot of shit they didn't need. And really, the movies and poker pale in comparison to the way that they've totally fucked up SportsCenter. However, one thing you can't accuse them of is not playing enough college basketball and college football. I think they averaged about five or six games a week during college football season this year which is about twice as many as they did before. And it seems like you can find a college hoops game or two on the ESPNs just about everyday. Oh, and for the record, I watched 3, and I'll probably watch Tilt too. Just call me a pawn of the corporate media.

Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2004 I'll watch Tilt to see how how it is. It's poker, so I have to tune in.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I'm bringing this back up for 2 reasons. For starters the show is about to start coming on. It looks alright but I'm not really interested in poker unless I'm playing. And I always play 5-card draw.....they don't on these shows do they? Second what the hell is the name of that song on the commercials? It's got a catchy tune.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 "Remedy" by The Black Crowes. "Only girl that wears that to a table wants people to think she's playing with daddy's money." "WE'RE supposed to be in together!" "I've got an in. The Matador."
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I can't believe that everybody remembers those, but not the one that's the focus of every single commercial. "If you want to hurt him in a cash game, you've got to get out of the kiddie pool and start making some moves."
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 "We're here with Don Everest, known as 'The Matador,' for his ability to lure the young bulls into the ring and cut them down." You're Playing Poker. They're Playing YOU. But the funniest thing is I know all these lines but I don't even know when the freakin' show is on...
the max 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I keep waking up in the middle of the night and don't know if I'm seeing the same commercials on rerun or if they're pimping this show THAT much. Poor Michael Madsen.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 What I find funny is if this show was coming on FX, people would be creaming their jeans to see it more than likely. However, it's on ESPN and we all know they have the uncanny ability to complete bumble the most easy of projects. Not to mention I give it one season and then someone in charge of the World Poker Tour will complain. Then ESPN will cancel it. It premieres tonight I think...not 100% sure. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 well ESPN won't show hardcore porn like FX does, would they?
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 It cracks me up that you all know these commercials by heart ... there's nothing in the world that makes me grab my remote faster than a commercial like this one. I sat through it once, realized that I had no interest in the show, and have made a point to flip around each time the commercial starts.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I keep waking up in the middle of the night and don't know if I'm seeing the same commercials on rerun or if they're pimping this show THAT much. Max, are you dreaming about Tilt?
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 Seriously I have no clue what the show is really about and I've watched every commercial. They want to take this Matador dude out so they're going to try to trick him and outsmart him? But he's like one of the best Poker players ever? Yeah I don't get how they plan to do it....unless he's one of those characters that is strangely a genius at the table but completely brain dead in every other facet of life. Oh and what kind of poker do they play on these shows? Is it Texas Hold 'Em?
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2005 I'll watch it because Michael Madsen can make a lot look good. He made Free Willy look good! Er.... I'll get back to you on that one....
