Huge earthquake wreaks havoc

Recommended Posts

God, this is getting worse by the minute. One of the guys I know on another site said his sister went over to one of the countries hit for their wedding. Luckily, her and the family are alright and are getting married I believe today.

A tidal wave is one of the natural disasters I want a photo of myself pointing a shotgun at.

Weren't you going to come up here and point a shotgun at Mount St. Helens?

It never blew its top, though.

You intimidated it.

On the news right now they just said scientists believe that the worst isn't over. The after math from all the corpses could be much worse. They wouldn't be surprised to see a mini-plague hit due to all the corpses strewn about.

In an earlier post someone made the comment that Japan had given nothing, this is wrong.

According to Sky News Japan has given the most,(in money) 20 million pounds.

Followed by Australia with 14 million pounds , plus teams of Doctors, Federal police, 5 planes and about annother 10 million pounds worth of food, medicine etc.

The USA has given a package that totals 17 million pounds (includes planes, troops etc etc etc)

I think its obvious this is the beginning of what these countries will give, History shows The USA and Australia always give more then there share in these situations.

Why?

Because its the right thing to do....

America has always been a generous nation. Its not just the public funds by the Fed. Gov. There's alot of private effort. Despite what the communist in the U.N. say. Those hate America fucks. Oh they will gladly take our money for their administrative costs and then criticize that we don't give enough. That's what good commies do.

I cant believe there are nearly 100,000 dead and a quarter of the globe affected by this, and you are all pissing and moaning about how much money each country has given, fucking unbelievable

Oh, and after seeing Fox News "coverage" of this, how anyone can see that channel as a credible news channel is beyond me

Well, not to be a dick, but we are spend, what, 5 billion a MONTH to help the Iraqis so 35 million is a lil...i don't know....pussy.

Especially when 50 million went to the "Indoor Rainforest study" in Iowa in the latest budget.

It's clearly Bush's oil buddies behind this whole thing. They drilled near the fault line and than used their secret earthquake machine (created by Halliburton) to create a huge Tsunami.

Drudge claims the death toll in Indonesia could exceed 400,000.

I know it's Drudge, but if that figure is true.....

Still doesn't match WWII losses...

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, since you've been pretty serious in other parts of this thread.

All I can say is that the death toll could have been much smaller had better precautions been used, and due to diseases, the death toll will only get that much worse. Very depressing.

How have FOX covered it?

It's an awful disaster and puts 9/11 in to perspective.

Comparing a natural disaster to a terrorist attack is absurd.

I classify both as disasters. You are correct however; naturla disasters are different to man made disasters. I don't agree that comparisons are absurd.

The final figure will be way over 400k. We're at 120k at the time of writing; I think that it is fair to say that at least double that will be dead but at the moment not found and following that a significant amount of people will die due to water borne disease, lack of medical care and famine.

Something I want to raise here..does anyone think that this disaster, as in a great flood, is biblical? I'm not religious in any way but this has certainly made me think.

Religion is a myth so no I don't see any biblical similariities between this and Noah's Flood, nor is this sign of the End Times.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Aid for Tsunami victims $35 million

Bush Inaugural $45 million

I imagine the US government will donate more when the money can be used more effectively and pointedly. They may spend less in the recovery phase and more in the rebuilding phase. Or they are assuming private donations and assistance will be made or that The World's donation will be sufficient. I can see why an immediate huge donation would be impractical, so I won't condemn the USgov for it quite yet.

the Australian government has added annother 25 million to the 35 million they are already giving.

The biggest funding is however coming privately from Australians, Americans and Europeans.

Apparently 500 million has been raised from citizens from these countries.

The really frightening thing here? The major waves went east-west. Had they gone north-south, we would be counting a death toll in the millions. The damn things would have rolled right over Bangladesh.

You make me sick.

Of course we haven't sent a lot of cash yet. What good would it do RIGHT NOW? Throwing money at a problem doens't make it go away and we're going to contribute when it comes time for rebuilding.

But exploiting this for some America-hating? Go to Hell.
