Guest Jason Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I think it's just the soap opera aspect for me. Normally I don't really watch TV shows, especially soaps, but I've consistently watched WWF/E since 1991, literally every week it's been on. Part of the reason is familiarity I guess. Its almost a comfort thing. I can tune in every week and not be left at sea by what's going on, as I know the storylines and can predict where angles, matches and interviews are going. I guess in a large way it appeals to the kid in me also. My cousin is the same age as me (19) and has been watching it as long as me. We usually get together for the PPVs, grab a few beers and get on like big kids in front of the TV, shouting, screaming, cheering etc. Despite people ragging on it all the time it's fun, no matter what. Probably the main reason I love wrestling and still watch it is because for years I've had to defend it form the usual 'it's just fat men in tights' etc crowd so I've got an affinity with it now and respect the performers like no others. So it's a combination of all those factors
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 1. What else am I going to watch? 2. To criticize it. 3. Because I am delusional about the past and how wrestling was good. I keep hoping that it will get better. 4. At least Wrestlemania will good, so I should watch what is leading up to it. 5. Oh and my father is a shareholder in the WWE.
Twisted Intestine Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 It entertains me. It's the only professional wrestling company I get on my cable.
Styles Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Hard to break habit. It's like niccotine, no matter how bad you know it is, you get hooked and can't stop. I guess you figure it's going to get better eventually...
Guest Loss Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Things could turn around at a moment's notice, and you never know when you might see a great match. The nature of being a wrestling fan is having to wade through crap to see good stuff. That's how it has always been and that's how it always will be.
Guest LooneyTune Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Hard to break habit. It's like niccotine, no matter how bad you know it is, you get hooked and can't stop. I guess you figure it's going to get better eventually... What Slapnuts said is ditto for me. I tried giving it up last month, and lasted all of 9 days.
Ted the Poster Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 A combination of habit and boredom.
Youth N Asia Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 It's mostly routine for me. Also give me and the old man a chance to kill a couple hours together watching something we both semi enjoy.
claydude14 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Yea it's pretty much a habit. I tried to stop watching after HHH's return from the quad injury, because that one RAW where he came back in MSG just pissed me off. How he didn't come out til the end of the show then had a ridiculously long entrance. Then squashing Angle for no reason. I was disgusted. I think I only lasted til the nWo came back. In the days since the brand extension, Smackdown's become my smoking marijuana to show every Thursday, and it's ridiculous nature has lent itself to that habit with great results. The first Smack! I baked to was the Lesnar/Show ring explosion. I remember going crazy, marking out like it was my job. Then the following weeks, when Piper pulled of Gowen's leg, and Vince yelled at him backstage... man, I remember thinking I'd never seen Vince as mad. Ridiculous good times. RAW is something I prefer to drink to.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I actually don't, and haven't in the past 3 years. I've really been bullshitting this entire time, just because I love to bitch about the WWE so much but don't want to have to suffer through their shitty shows. I know for a FACT that 1/2 the people here don't watch it either, and the other half may very-well-be just figments of my imagination.
Si82 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Nothing really. I rarely watch anymore. I can't believe that in 14 years of watching that it would get so bad that I don't even care if I watch anymore. It's about to get worse as well, come the new year I'll only be able to see the WWE Experience. Mind you, I still buy the DVDs when I can. So it's still a tough habit to break.
slimm44 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I watch RAW because: There really isn't anything else I watch. Monday Night Football is still on afterwards, I'm not going to miss anything before the second half anyways. Plus if WWE did something cool, I wouldn't want to miss it. I watch Smackdown because: It is entertaining and something different than RAW. They are pushing (if you can even call it that) new and old guys like Rey and RVD. They don't always keep the same person champ. (In the past year it has gone from Angle, Lesnar, Guerrero and JBL) I'm not really into Velocity, occasionally I turn into Heat
JN News Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Edge is the only reason why I still watch WWE. Once he leaves, I'm done.
Guest Fook Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Right now I only watch Raw, and I watch because I feel the positives outweigh the negatives. If that changes, like SD did, I'll stop watching. Also, once 24 starts airing, I'll be watching even less than I do now.
Gary Floyd Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 A combination of habit and boredom. Ditto Also, I like to reminice on the old days. Oh, and because of Gene Snitsky
Guest The Shadow Behind You Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 I watch it mainly out of habit too and sometimes a fun match is there but mainly because It's free. I get my wrestling fix from ROH.
MikeJordan23 Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Wrestling has been my favorite form of entertainment on T.V. for nearly 17 years, a couple of dry spells isn't gonna stop me from watching.
Dark Age Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 3. Because I am delusional about the past and how wrestling was good. I keep hoping that it will get better. Bingo. as I know the storylines and can predict where angles, matches and interviews are going. Is that REALLY a good thing? I also tune in for: 1. Chris Benoit 2. Paul London 3. Eddie Guerrero 4. Booker T 5. Edge 6. Christian 7. Batista And that's it. Booker and Eddie (though two of my favourite wrestlers) I don't care much about at all right now. I get my London fix from Velocity. The other four carry Raw on their backs. EDIT: Oh, and Shelton Benjamin.
Exslade ZX Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Because...I actually, still like it.
reign Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 This may sound weird but it helps me to work out when I watch the show...something about the high energy and music just keeps me motivated...I can work out just fine any other time but it's kinda fun to do it while Raw and to a lesser extent SD!...I'll still put on DVDs and tapes too...and yeah there's always that chance that I'll miss something cool but I'm also addicted to the backstory of prowrestling...before I saw Bret's movie and started reading these net sites I had no idea that my wrestling heroes were all(not all of course) a bunch of drug addicts, heavy drinkers and backstage politicians. It still amazes me and I can never get enough of shoots and backstage dirt.
SuperJerk Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I'm silly enough to be entertained by the idea of my favorite wrestlers chasing championship gold.
Precious Roy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 At the moment: 1) Chris Benoit 2) Chris Jericho 3) Edge 4) Evolution 5) Trish Stratus 6) Bischoff and that's about it. I don't watch SD anymore, and the other guys I like on RAW (Tajiri, Rhyno, Hurricane, Richards, Venis) aren't utilized. I'm a fan of Christian, but he doesn't really rank as a reason to watch. I like Regal, but I wouldn't say I tune in to see him, especially considering that I hate the Eugene character and consider that a detriment towards my enjoyment of Regal as a performer. I'd watch to see Eddie, Rey, Angle and London if SD weren't such a mess.
Taker666 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Seeimg my fav superstars in action, the gimicks, storylines, the entrance, the theme songs, the kind of entertainment you don't get in any other TV shows or movies. Pro Wrestling as it all. which is why I watch Raw and SmackDown! every week. rarly do I find something I don't like about WWE programing. even if the show sometimes suck. there will always be something I like about it.
The Czech Republic Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I watched to make fun of it in the OAO threads. And I missed two weeks of it because I blew off the clip show and was with family this week, so I might find myself done altogether for some time.
Fro Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Raw's pretty much force of habit, although it's entertaining usually and there's usually a good TV match every week. Smackdown is pretty bad, although I should have checked out the RVD/Rey v.s. Eddy/Booker match this week. I have no desire to watch JBL as champ and Cena is pretty stale too. I have no desire to watch UT and Heidenreich. I've fallen asleep a few times recently during this show and I've skipped the past 2-3 weeks. They're in danger of losing me from Smackdown, and this is someone who'd watch all their non-clip shows even before the boom period. I quit watching Heat and Velocity a long time ago. I've got OVW to get my wrestling fix here at least.
Guest thatdude21601 Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Because it's free I guess. Plus I couldn't properly shit on it, if I didn't watch it.
Guest Quik Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Habit's the only thing that keeps me going, but even that's fading. It's at the point where I watch not because I really enjoy it, but because 90% of the show is so bad that I watch it just to mock it.
Guest Regal Fan Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 1.Chris Benoit 2.Ric Flair 3.William Regal 4.Batista
Lil' Bitch Posted January 1, 2005 Report Posted January 1, 2005 To see a new world champion finally be crowned. Also Benoit, Jericho, Edge, Batista, Guerrero, Cena, RVD
