tommytomlin 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 I voted against Prime Minister Howard in the Australian elections, but that was from a purely nationalist perspective (I didn't support Australian troops in Iraq without the U.N, and he was an opportunistic liar who had no respect for the electorate and ran on false economic credentials). But I can't bring myself to oppose Bush's foreign policy. I can't say that deposing Saddam was a bad thing, nor the invasion of Afghanistan (even though any President would have taken out the Taliban). There's massive downsides to what the U.S did in Iraq, but it was still the right thing for the U.S to do. I do think a lot more could be done in South Asia in the War on Terror though, something his government seems to be ignoring. I don't really agree with his domestic agenda, but my opposition isn't to his specific policies but the conservative viewpoint he espouses (specifically the privatisation of health care). I certainly don't agree with those who say he's a moron or a puppet though. To insult the intelligence of someone who holds the highest office in the land shows a lot of ignorance to the work and skill it takes to actually BE President. So yeah, I support the bigger picture ideas of Bush, but I don't think I'd vote for him. I wouldn't have voted for Kerry either, Clinton was really the only President or Presidential Candidate who I could say I supported.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 I think AndrewTS isn't American and he seems to be pro-Bush... Actually, I'm a Pennsylvanian, and live only about 30-40 miles south of KKK's hometown of Pittsburgh. I'm not pro-Bush, though. I have many complaints with the way things are being done, but there's a difference between that and the virulant hatred many have towards GWB the man. George's knack for completely and utterly pissing off people I don't like anyway makes me a bit of a fan. So many Dems seem to be in the dark about the fact that calling a guy a fascist, a terrorist, and slapping a Hitler 'stache on his picture does absolutely nothing to persuade people who don't agree with their views already. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 I'm not a Bush supporter, but I don't think he's the equivalent to Hitler or even the worst US president in my life time. His domestic policy seems to need a lot of work, and I like his basic principles as far as dealing with foreign policy, but I don't think he's executed that well. That's actually pretty much how I feel about him overall. I think he is a genuinely good person who's in over his head with this job. More like what was the opinion of him pre-911 in other words. Highland 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 I don't care for his domestic policy, but I do think he's given a really shitty rap regarding his "lack" of intellect. The man isn't stupid by anymeans, but a few mis-pronounced words and guffaws early on and everyone jumped all over it. On the flip side, he isn't the Second Coming of the Messiah either. Sorry fundies.

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 There are quite a few in rural Ontario, but Toronto & Ottawa are definitely left-wing. A Conservative took my seat in June for example. Provincially Ontario goes PC more often than not, but federally they go Liberal.

Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I don't support Bush, but it's mainly because I disagree with his domestic and social policies. But whatever the Liberals lose, they'll gain in Ontario. I have to question how patient even Ontario can be with the latest antics of the scandal ridden Liberals. Martin is clearly incompetent and has no business being in the PMO, worse, he has turned out to be exactly like Chretien in regards to his treatment of MP's, after arranging a coup against Chretien by promising to let MP's have more influence. Right.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2005 Who would they rather vote for? A similar person of George W. Bush or a left-wing nut-bar? There's not a lot of options on who to vote for.

I agree 110% regarding the 'image' argument. After all, he is a multimillionaire who went to Yale, owned a baseball team, and spent many years in and around Washington growing up. Somehow, he was able to sell himself (twice!) as being a folksy outsider who is just a common guy like you or me. That's an incredible accomplishment. Provincially Ontario goes PC more often than not, but federally they go Liberal Probably because we've had some idiots as leftwing premiers.....Dalton McGuinty is pretty wimpy, and I don't think I need to remind the mess Bob Rae made. Granted, Mike Harris was a dickhole, but that points kind of moot. We'll continue to go PC, as the conservatives will take the next prov. election. History has proven that if you say you won't raises taxes and do, you're gone. I'm an international Bush supporter because I live in two blue states and we're gonna secede and join Canada! That still fucks my mind up....in Canada, Liberal is red and Conservative is blue. It also reminds me of a column by a leftist in the Cincinnati Enquirer the Sunday following Bush's re-election. It listed all the left wing things Canada has done, and encouraged Yankees to move here. I'd be right pissed if a Jarome Iginla(get it? right wings? ) took an ad out in the Toronto Star encouraging me to move to the states. So many Dems seem to be in the dark about the fact that calling a guy a fascist, a terrorist, and slapping a Hitler 'stache on his picture does absolutely nothing to persuade people who don't agree with their views already Not as many as you might think. I'm so liberal I've refused to play right wing on my hockey team, but protestors suck. They don't change anyone's minds, and gave a bad image of Canadians to Yankees who saw those clips on their news last month when Dubya visited. I don't mind him, actually......granted he was pretty shady before Chretien's long overdue retirement, but how many politicians aren't? Somehow, he was able to sell himself (twice!) as being a folksy outsider who is just a common guy like you or me. More so than Kerry, anyway...Kerry was a douchebag, altogether...."Kerry was a douchebag"(Airplane! reference)
