Guest CronoT Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Published - Jan 13 2005 12:29AM MST || AP LONDON(AP) Jewish groups and lawmakers criticized Prince Harry on Thursday for wearing a Nazi uniform to a costume party, with one group urging him to visit the Auschwitz death camp, despite an apology from the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. The 20-year-old prince apologized Wednesday in a statement after a British newspaper printed a picture of him wearing the uniform with a swastika armband while clutching a cigarette and a drink at a party on Saturday. "I think a lot of people will be disappointed to see that photograph and it will cause a lot of offense," said Michael Howard, leader of Britain's main opposition Conservative Party. "I think it might be appropriate for him to tell us himself just how contrite he now is," added Howard, who is Jewish. The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles expressed outrage and urged Prince Harry to travel to Poland later this month to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. "There he will see the results of the hated symbol he so foolishly and brazenly chose to wear," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, dean and founder of the center. The action also upset many Israelis. Vice Premier Shimon Peres called it "very bizarre." "Well, the next time he will dress up and behave like a prince," Peres said. Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said: "The use of Nazi symbols is always intolerable ... especially now that we are marking the 60th anniversary of the release from the death camps." Prime Minister Tony Blair's office was reluctant to get involved. "Clearly an error was made," Blair's official spokesman said. "That has been recognized by Harry, and I think it is better that this matter continues to be dealt with by (Buckingham) Palace." Jewish groups in Britain were more moderate in their criticism. "The fact that the palace has issued an apology indicates that this was a mistake by the prince," said Rabbi Jonathan Romain, a spokesman for the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain. "But having being given, the apology should now be accepted." A spokesman for the Board of Deputies of British Jews said the costume "was clearly in bad taste, especially in the run-up to Holocaust Memorial Day" on Jan. 27. But he added: "The board is pleased that he's apologized for the incident." So, should we feel sorry for Prince William for being a fucking moron, or should we get pissed off? I'm inclined to take the second option, because even this spoiled rich kid should have known this was a dumb thing to do.

And he's a notorious fuck-up anyway, so no I don't feel sorry for him.

2GOLD Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 You can only scrape so many royals out of the same gene pool before you run out of ones that work. Apparently they have hit the bottom of the pot.
Guest TheLastBoyscout Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 I think there's a quote from Frank Drebin that works here.
Guest CronoT Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Here's some pictures of it, in case you're thinking it might be a hoax:
2GOLD Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 The Nazi army wore white? Really? I learned something today.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Whats the big deal?
NoCalMike Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 The funniest thing was the local news here was reporting on this, and the last sentence regading Henry was ".......and he has also been linked with marijuana use" like, that is just something SOOOOO abnormal for a youngster. Oh I am sure the marijuana made him so dumb that he thought it would be a good idea to dress up as a Nazi, yes, yes, that's the ticket. Down with Marijuana~!

Well, my first thought was "Are you high?!?!" when I saw it so maybe that is what they were going for.
Jingus Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Whats the big deal? Maybe that Harry is wearing the uniform of a group of people who literally tried to wipe Britain off the face of the planet and killed thousands of English citizens along the way?
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Oh no, he jokingly wore the arm band. i'm sure your president has said or done worse things as a youngster. but maybe he was drunk?!? holding a cigarette? god save the queen, her puny heart is breaking!
GreatWhiteNope Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Perhaps it was a fashion statement. Like those emo kids who wear boy scout uniforms and don't bathe.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Perhaps the English crown, Harry's forefathers, were not anymore ruthless and cutthroat than the nazi's with their policies with their colonization pursuits during the 17th and 18th century?
The Decemberists Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Perhaps the English crown, Harry's forefathers, were not anymore ruthless and cutthroat than the nazi's with their policies with their colonization pursuits during the 17th and 18th century? As a pround Englishman I have only one thing to say to that... We were way more ruthless than those pussy Nazi's! Who do you think they stole the idea for Concentration (sp?) Camps from!?
Special K Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 It's not that big a deal. It's not like he's ever going to be anything very important. He is a moron though. His only job is not to look like a complete cock in public. Mission failed.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 ...the last sentence regading Henry was ".......and he has also been linked with marijuana use" Well the Nazis got high all the time -- how else could you put up with all those Jews?...
Vern Gagne Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 How embarassing would it have been, if someone showed up wearing the same custume.
Styles Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 You would think he'd be surrounded by advisors and security personal at all times and that one of them might have suggested that it wasn't the best idea before he went out in public like a moron...
Guest Cerebus Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 The second in line to a powerless and meaningless dynasty wearing a nazi costume is not a current event. (Sorry for fluff pic #19823093 but I'm drunk WAY too early)
Styles Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Hey, it made the front page of the New York Post! If that can't be considered news than what can!?
Guest Smues Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 I heard about this on the TK show this morning. Got a good laugh out of it. Moved on.
Murmuring Beast Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 OM<G HARRY IS TEH NAZI! He's not. He's a young lad who is still ill at ease with being in the public eye. This was a gag gone wrong. I'm not a fan of the Royal Fannily - to say the least - but this isn't a big deal. Anyone who was offended by this needs to get a new brain.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 I thought the point of costumes were to shock and/or entertain. Its not like he took the podium and started spewing off pro-Nazi propaganda.
Highland Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 He should have known better, and by wearing that "costume" in a public place and by garnering such publicity he has made known his views and should be at the least publicly astrocised for them.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume that was sarcastic.

Zorin Industries Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Considering the ancestory of the Royal family, I think dressing up as a German probably came naturally to Harry
