MLK Day

Recommended Posts

Okay, seriously. Either make it a holiday or don't but I am pissed.

My job gives us the lil calender that shows the days off for the year and we see the holidays and all, but come to find out, although this is a holiday, WE AREN"T GONNA GET PAID FOR IT.

That ain't a fucking holiday. That is missing a day of work. So of course you can chose to a: Use your floating holiday or b: not get paid. I of course made up a c: after my constant complaining and came in to work today with the other 4 people that didn't want to burn their floating holiday.

Seriously, why is MLK day such a throw away holiday? Why not just give it a saturday or something and stop toying with the minds of workers.

Fucking fake ass no having the day off as stupid ass "holiday".

Stop bitching and be thankful that a black man earned us all a 3 day weekend.

The bitching is because it didn't earn us all a 3 day weekend. Alot of us only got the two day weekend, which is why I am complaining....and that sentence sounds kinda weird....but you know what I mean.

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

During his lifetime, Dr. King sought to forge the common ground on which people from all walks of life could join together to address important community issues. Working alongside individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds, Dr. King encouraged Americans to come together to strengthen communities, alleviate poverty, and acknowledge dignity and respect for all human beings. Service, he realized, was the great equalizer.

On January 17, 2005, Americans across the country will celebrate the national holiday honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As they have since 1995, hundreds of thousands of Americans will remember Dr. King by participating in service projects in their communities. Together, they will honor King’s legacy of tolerance, peace, and equality by meeting community needs and making the holiday “A day ON, not a day OFF.”

I thought you were complaining because you weren't getting paid for having the day off today?

I get paid for six holidays a year. This isn't one of them, but neither is Easter, oddly enough. My job's in retail, so I usually don't get time off for holidays anyway.

Yeah, same here, except I get a bonus day for Thanksgiving. New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

No. He was complaining becasue since it isn't a paid holiday, he decided to go into work so he could get paid. The holiday was optional.

I was going to just eat watermelon and listen to hip hop while waiting for my welfare check that I could go spend on a prostitute and make use of my huge penis. And dance. Dance very well.

To celebrate - I went and played the lottery.

Don't think I'll win, but some black man talked to me for a good 20 minutes about how he figured the system out and knew what numbers would be drawn tonight.

He didn't look rich, though.

Thats because he can't let the man know that he has figured out the system. you should have taken his advice. Now you will just be broke.

I thought you guys hate to work.(©kkktookmybabyaway)

Not bad (however, that is a stereotype I associate more with Mexicans than with blacks). I'll give it 3.5 burning crosses out of five. However, this is what I was going to contribute to Ripper's rant about getting held down by the Man.

If I ever own a business I'd give my workers 3/5ths of a day off for MLK day...

I also find it ironic that on a day celebrating a black leader, people don't have to work...

I don't find it any weirder than getting off work for LABOR DAY.

I had class today. But then again, my school closes for virtually nothing other than the landmark holidays.

My school didn't close even when there were reports of a hurricane about to hit in like one or two days, whereas every other school in Miami had already closed. Amazing.
