BlackFlagg Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 man the 80's was such a great time for action movies, they were cheesey and that's what made them so great! the 90's had some good action flicks but so many of them were crap because they tried to be all serious, blech. Give me Arnold tearing through a couple hundred enemy soldiers, having grenades go off two feet away from him without getting a scratch and have his grenades blow people fifty feet through the air! That's good stuff!
razazteca Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Word to that. Also No Retreat, No Surrender. Van Damme as evil Russian and Bruce Lee's ghost teaching the kid the backflip kick=gold. The Last Dragon was better because it had a LeRoy searching fortune cookie factories for Bruce Lee.
Guest Askewniverse Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Best of the Best yo. Chris Penn ruled in that movie. "You keep eatin' that shit and you'll end up like Hop Sing over there. Your eyes will start to slant, your dick will shrivel up, and you'll open up a laundromat." And no love for Commando Come on Bennett, you don't wanna use a gun, you wanna use a knife so you can stick in me and turn it slooooowly, see what's going on inside! The final battle alone is full of awesome Arnie quotes! Not from the final battle, but one of my favorite scenes from Commando: Cooke: "You scared, mother fucker? Well you should be, 'cuz this green beret is gonna kick your ass!" Matrix: "I eat green berets for breakfast. And right now, I'm very hungry!" Cindy: "I can't believe this macho bullshit." I haven't seen it in years, but I remember liking Red Scorpion.

Swift Terror Posted January 22, 2005 Author Report Posted January 22, 2005 Ruthless reviews: Action stars of today are pussies. Action stars of two decades ago shot .44 bullets out of their cocks. sweet Best weapon of any 80s action movie: hands down, Clint Eastwood's Automag, used only in 1983's Sudden Impact.
Guest Hass of Pain Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 A shameless clone of ET right down to the shot of the moon on the movie poster, but I always loved this movie as a kid and you never hear anyone mention it anymore. I would love to track it down to see how it stood the test of time. I was always a huge mark for this movie that would come on the USA Network and later The Disney Channel around Halloween called "Mr. Boogedy". I can't find any information on it at all, and all I can remember is that this scary guy named Mr. Boogedy terrorizes this family, and the mustached Dad sucks him up with a vaccum at the end. I would love to see this again too, but no one ever seems to remember it.
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 And I remember Mr. Boogedy. I got it on tape somewhere in my house. I love that movie.
Spaceman Spiff Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Didn't saying "Boogedy" like 3 times conjure him up (and, no, I'm not confusing him w/ Beetlejuice)?
Positively Kanyon Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 The King Of Kickboxers (was that from the 80s? I can't remember!) I can't believe nobody has mentioned Weird Al Yankovic's "Vidiot From UHF" or Bill Cosby's "Leonard Part 6"
Zorin Industries Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 hands down, Clint Eastwood's Automag, used only in 1983's Sudden Impact. I have to say I dislike Sudden Impact completely, I think its a sleazy piece of trash, and this is from someone who loves the rest of the Dirty Harry movies
Guest Regina Phelange Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 The Wizard rocked... The Goonies, Adventures in Babysitting, Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, Gremlins, Silver Bullet... ah, the 80's.
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Leonard Part 6 needs a Special Edition DVD to come out. I'd buy it in an instant.
DangerousDamon Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Anyone here ever seen Band of the Hand? Laurence Fishbourne is great in that movie.
Art Sandusky Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Space Camp and The Explorers. Man, the 80s was the last time family films were enjoyable for everyone.
Zack Malibu Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Sleepaway Camp. First one mainly, but the three were all done in the 80's. I love that twisted plot.
Gary Floyd Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Sleepaway Camp. First one mainly, but the three were all done in the 80's. I love that twisted plot. That ain't nothing Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. With a hyperactive vietnam vet with a metal plate played by Bill Mosely, The dad from the original spitting out great one liners, and Dennis Hopper as a chainsaw wielding policeman/dad out for vengence who battles Leatherface in a chainsaw duel=awesome fun for all!
Corey_Lazarus Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Actually, I believe Choptop (Bill Mosely) is supposed to be Leather's brother, the one who got hit by a truck in the first one. "HEY...YOU'RE MY FAVE!" All in all, I thought TCM2 was a disappointment, even after reading reviews saying it was more of a horror/comedy than straight-up horror. Then again, I watched when I was exhausted, so maybe I need a wide-awake viewing.
algrim Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 - Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Frantic - Action Jackson - Firefox - Road House - Marathon Man - The Great Outdoors - Ghostbusters - Raging Bull - Any which way you can - ANy which way but lose - Gymkata - Best of the best - Good guys wear black - Lock up Some of these movies may not fit this category, but those are the movies that stood out for me in the 80's.
Guest SideFXs Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 "AngelHeart" Who can forget that elevator ride, going down, at the end of the movie, as a great metaphor? "Star Trek II, the Wrath of Khan" A great pick, by Gene Roddenbury, for a reprised character, from the original T.V. series! "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" “I want a fucking car, right fucking now.” "The Great Outdoors" John Candy on water ski’s LMAO "Trading Places" Jamie Leigh Curtis, and its a pretty damn funny flick "Dead Poets Society" A great life-lesson "Weird Science" Every teenage boy’s dream, featuring Kelly LeBrock "Eight Men Out" Classic baseball movie "The Burbs" When you think, it can’t get anymore insanely funny, it does. "On Golden Pond" This is Henry Fonda’s last movie, for which he received an Oscar. Great story about life, involving three generations. Katherine Hepburn’s best role ever. And one of the best opening songs for a movie. "Cobra" “This is where the law stops, AND I START!” I think its Stallone’s best action movie role. Swift Terror, I liked Friedkin’s, "To Live and Die in L.A." too. It is a great classic 80’s flick. I don’t know why this was largely forgotten. And, well, not largely forgotten, but it deserves a mention. My all time favorite movie of the 1980’s would have to be "Predator." With Arnold, of course. But, I have to mention, the largely forgotten, Bill Duke as ‘Snake.’
Guest Regina Phelange Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Three words... HOWARD THE DUCK That is all.
Guest Askewniverse Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 April Fool's Day Cheerleader Camp Class of Nuke 'Em High Deadly Friend The 80s had a ton of cheesy horror flicks, but those are the ones that came to mind.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 "POP IT, TOMMY!" - Road House - Tango & Cash - Trading Places - Better Off Dead - Uncle Buck - Say Anything - Lock Up - Prey For Death - Next Of Kin
Gary Floyd Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 April Fool's Day Cheerleader Camp Class of Nuke 'Em High Deadly Friend I'll raise ya up one (well, more) with Deadly Spawn (80's Alien Knockoff) The Burning (Slasher flick/F13th ripoff with with gore, a disfigured killer, garden sheers, and Jason Alexander with a full head of hair, and his naked ass...ok, don't think of that last part) The Nest (B-Movie fun with giant, flesh eating, horny cockroaches) Surf Nazis Must Die (Dreadful Troma Film, with the Best Title EVER) The Vanishing (Awesome atmospheric tale. Followed by a forgettable remake)
Zack Malibu Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Troma rules. Class of Nuke 'Em High, Toxic Avenger, Surf Nazi's...so much good stuff in the 80's. And I can't believe I forgot to mention CHOPPING MALL~! Or Angel, about the high school honor roll student turned hooker by night. Or Rappin' with Mario Van Peebles. Ah, Zack loves his 80's cheese.
Guest PlatinumBoy Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 A movie that drools 80'sness. From the acting, to clothes, to soundtrack, etc. etc. The movie? VISION QUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 A movie I just got finished watching, not cheesy, but... - Some Kind of Wonderful (So underrated) Also... - The Lost Boys (Haim + Feldman, if that's not cheesy enough for you...) - Supergirl - The Wizard (Lucas and the Power Glove > You) - The Legend of Billie Jean - Running Scared
