Cartman 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 Brady is a good quarterback, no doubt, but bottomline, winning games by 14 points against offensive powerhouses that are held WAY below their season average with shaky defenses doesn't scream "look at that offense" Well at least in the case of the Colts game a couple weeks ago, the offense had just as much to do with winning as the defense did. Consider the fact the offense controlled the ball for nearly 38 Minutes thus keeping the ball out of Manning's hands most of the game.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 26, 2005 And another thing, I am so fucking sick of people making a pro athelete playing while sick this amazing thing. That shit happens in every highschool across the country let alone almost every player out there on the field. Damn near every player on that field had some type of ailment this late in a football season, be it a knee, ankle, they can't close a hand, their back...something. Whoopity doo you played with a flu. How do you feel about Michael Jordan's food poisoning game? I didn't give a shit then and still don't. Sure the images of him falling in scotties arms are dramatic, but bottomline, a side effect of food poisoning isn't you forgetting how to do you fucking job. you just don't feel like doing it as much. What about the side effect of being incapacitated?

the max 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 If I were the Eagles, I wouldn't want any clarity on 'will TO play' until the kick-off, even if the decision has already been made. If you are going up against one of the best prepared teams in the NFL who has complex defence playcalling, keep them guessing whether TO will play or not. I hear this argument on ESPN radio all day long. To Belichick, he doesn't care about Owens. Owens is just another player. Belichick is perfectly capable of creating a scheme that makes him obsolete. As it is, just how good is Owens going to be? I heard today that some receiver on the Panthers suffered this same injury in the first few weeks of the season and he's still not cleared to play. If Owens really wants to make this a "look at me" thing about how he plays hurt and rushes back from injury, he's doing it against the wrong team. Think Rodney Harrison is going to go easy on Owens because he's recovering from a leg injury? Doubtful. He's going to be hit harder than normal. Plus, everyone's acting like Owens is somehow the missing link and that it's going to be like: Announcer: AND PLAYING IN THE SUPERBOWL AS A WIDE RECEIVER...TERRELL OWENS!!!!!! and then they cut to Belichick loading up a gun and preparing to take his own life. He's not stupid. Owens will be a decoy, and not a very good one.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 I think they're banking on him turning in a miracle, Schilling-esque performance. Few things wrong with that: TO had a MUCH worse injury (Schilling's was a torn tendon, TO actually broke a bone), TO will have to do much more on that ankle than just push off on it, and Schilling didn't have to jump for anything and land on that ankle before getting hit by a 250 pound guy. Owens will not be anywhere near what he's capable of, and he might just be dragging his team down if he tries to go out there and is too stubborn to pull himself out if it's clear he can't play. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 I'd rather not have TO play. It's going to fuck up the rhythm this team has gotten into when McNabb tries to force him the ball once a series.
yankovic fan 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 I've been fighting this reference in my head all week, but it keeps building and building and no one else has said it that I saw... Does this feel like one of those " life imitating art " situations to anyone? By "art" in this case I mean the film/book Friday Night Lights with the whole Boobie Miles thing. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 All the "New England is going to be screwed because they can't plan on TO playing or not" talk cracks me up. How about this: they prepare as if he's going to play & be 100% and then the worst case scenario is that he doesn't play and they're over-prepared. Instead of having to deal with TO as the #1 receiver, Freddie as the #2, Pinkston as the 3, etc., they now have Freddie as the #1, Pinkston as the #2, etc ... I'd rather not have TO play. It's going to fuck up the rhythm this team has gotten into when McNabb tries to force him the ball once a series. Can you imagine TO's reaction if he does play and McNabb doesn't get him the ball enough?!? "I work my ass of to get back to play in the SB and they don't get me the ball. Me, me, me, blah, blah, blah."

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 After years of complaining in SF, and then complaining about the original trade to Baltimore, I'm not about to let him off the hook after one year of good behavior in Philly. It's comparable to the way that Dillon didn't complain this year in New England but people still say is one losing season or a game that he doesn't get many carries away from pitching a fit. Even as a Pats fan I think a Corey Dillon blow-up in inevitable. Plus, he caught about 25% of the passes that McNabb threw this year ... if he complained about that, than what would be good enough?!? Disagree if you want, but if TO busts his ass to come back for the Super Bowl and doesn't get a reception, I think he'll complain LOUDLY about it.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 Then Donovan's mom won't give him his Campbell's Beef with country vegetables soup. McNabb's mom controls the food intake, without her he starves to death.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 27, 2005 I contend Owens will play, but everyone is right, his significance will be minimal. And the Pats know it.

With a broken leg, T.O is still stronger on his feet than Brandon Stokley. Well.....damn, I can't argue against that. I just think the Eagles need to close the book on Owens and just get back to letting their players think about the game. It seems the media will ask anyone on the Eagles how they can win without Owens when they have done it repeatedly already How do they win? Umm, less turnovers than the Patriots, play their game and not lose track of their assignments on defense? I mean, I know that's crazy and obviously they got to the Super Bowl because Owens was cheering but I think it might be a good idea for them. Freddie Mitchell nearly said "F*CK Owens" during the last interview I saw him have on FOX 5 out of Philly. He's really getting tired of being asked.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted January 27, 2005 The Patriots need to prepare as though T.O will be playing, and at 100%. During the game, when he isn't playing and isn't 100%, they've studied the offense and T.O at wide receiver that playing against Greg Lewis and Todd Pinkston is a piece of cake. During the game, when he isn't playing and isn't 100%, they've studied the offense and T.O at wide receiver that playing against Greg Lewis and Todd Pinkston is a piece of cake. Which is what Bill does anyway. They aren't going to catch him off guard and saying T.O is in or out doesn't change how he prepares. The only thing this T.O talk is doing is annoying the Eagle players, cept McNabb who has a very shrug of the shoulders mindset towards T.O. right now. The last thing the Eagles need is for one of their players to snap on a reporter and get suspended for the game. Which the NFL would do.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 27, 2005 Oh, and in regards to Freddie Mitchell's shameless self-promotion, Steve Smith had this to say (from fanball.com).. Eagles' wide receiver Freddie Mitchell refers to himself as the People's Champion, but Panthers' wideout Steve Smith is one person who isn't buying the hype. "Freddie Mitchell has 22 catches," Smith said during an interview on James Brown's radio show. "He's not a premier receiver. My son in flag football had 22 catches. That's the level he's on. Freddie Mitchell can't hold my jock. You've got to be kidding me. He's a joke." Smith missed all but one game this season with a broken fibula.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2005 Thank you, Steve Smith! At first I actually thought Freddie Mitchell was doing a sort of postmodern irony type joking with all his People's Champ stuff and the various silly names and hype. Kinda like a jobber that knows he sucks, we know he sucks, but he pimps himself hard and we laugh. The disturbing thing is that now I think Mitchell takes himself SERIOUSLY, as in he really thinks he is all this stuff.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2005 Hey, Freddie could be big time if he wasn't stuck behind TO most of the season, he proved that in the playoffs against the Vikings.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2005 I think the decision should ultimately be up to TO. He has been in the league, what 8 years now? He just has to ask himself, would it be worth risking his career, even if the Eagles lose and he either has to retire due to screwing up his ankle even more, but then on the other hand, could he live with himself if the Eagles are in position to win on like the final drive, and the WRs can't shake the defenders, and he is on the sideline..... It is a risk/reward dilemma.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2005 I'm starting to liken this whole TO thing to the whole Eric Lindros dilemma in 2000 when they Flyers were up 3-1 on the Devils. After he came back, all karma turned against them and they ended up losing the series 4-3 and Lindros got another concussion. I get that whole vibe out of this for some reason.
