EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2005 I ordered it myself, and I should get it in a few days. I'm looking forward to the rare matches. I'm debating on doing a TSM review, if no one else is planning one.

res37618 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Just picked it up for $11.99 at FYE $11.99??? Are you serious? Did they sell you a jar of Vaseline to go with that, because you got SCREWED! The suggested retail price on the Andre DVD is $9.95 - as in, that's what WWE Shopzone is charging for it. You can order it from Deepdiscountdvd.com for $5.99, and it is available at Best Buy (saw it there tonight) for $6.99. I seriously don't see how places like FYE stay in business . . . they've usually got stuff jacked up WAY too high. Most of the time, WWE DVD's at FYE are at least $4-$6 higher than anywhere else, sometimes even moreso. I once saw WrestleMania XX there for $39.99, when you could get it for $20-$28 if you looked just a little bit. What a f'n ripoff. I'd drive 50 miles for a DVD before I ever gave FYE a dime of my money, but that's just me. I guess if its the only choice you've got, then ya do what ya gotta do. Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 FYE stays in business because people buy their marked up items. The one in my local mall is full all the time with customers.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Stores in malls usually charge a little more because the rent they pay is so high. Just how it is. We don't have any FYEs nearby, but we have Sam Goody and I hardly ever buy anything there because I think $18.99 for a new CD is a rip off when you can probably get the same thing at Best Buy down the road for like, $13.99 or so. strummer 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Had to go to FYE, Best Buy is way out of the way where I live. FYE is always packed full when I'm there. The check out girl actually said I got a good deal, since Andre is a legend and all
Enigma 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 The check out girl is obviously a good shit talker. Should have ordered it from DeepDiscountDVD for $5.99.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Generally, if you buy a WWE dvd the first few days it comes out at FYE, you get a good deal. If not, forget about it. Plus, I have a 5% off card . . . oooooooo. As for alkeiper, lookin forward to the review if you do one.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted January 30, 2005 So what's the deal on Tazz and Cole doing the commentary for the WrestleMania 1 match? I thought Vince could use all of Jesse's commentary that had already been released on tape before, so what's up with that?
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Probably just alternate commentary. Ventura gets paid for the WWE stuff already since it keeps getting re-released so that's more royalties for him.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted January 30, 2005 I hope so. I'd hate to think Vince was going to get rid of all the great Monsoon-Ventura stuff on the early WrestleManias.
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2005 Just curious, what's everyone's problem with Lord Alfred Hayes' announcing? I kinda enjoyed his Mania 2 and Mania VII work that he did. I liked how he said "Avalanche" when Bundy did that move to Hogan too.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 Ok. Here's my review... WWE Andre The Giant is 5 stars. It is great. His classic matches are intersting because I have been looking for them and now I have found them. I hope WWE will release WWE Rowdy Piper DVD set and Undertaker DVD. Now I am hating SmackD matches, because JBL is the champ. I hope the other superstar will become next. JBL always cheats like Brock Lesnar but he was gone from SM. Roddy Piper I hope the matches will be his feud with Hogan, his first WM, his match with Mr. Wonderful and plus his JD03 match with Hogan and his SM match with SeanOH vs Tajiri&Eddie. Also undertaker I hope the matches will be his feud with Bret Hart at One Night Only/Summerslam 1997, his brutal HIAC match with Mankind or his No Holds barred match with Mankind at Raw, his battle with Goldust at Casket Match, his battle with Hogan, with Ric Falir, with Rocky maivia, Sid Justice, Razor Ramon, or his new enemy Heidenreich. Kidding. I've got it in the works, and should have it posted shortly.

MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2005 Al, thanks for the review. I do have a question, just because your review didn't state it clearly (unless I missed it somewhere): Are the matches in full, as in bell-to-bell time? I know Coliseum Video was pretty hit-or-miss with full match coverage and I wasn't sure if this one had matches in full or not. I've thought about picking this up too, generally because, even if the matches weren't Andre's best, I wish the guy was remembered more for THAT time period (late 70s-early 80s) or sooner, instead of being known for WrestleMania III, Ted DiBiase's buddy, Colossal Connection, etc. (I worry that guys like Ric Flair and Terry Funk are remembered more the latter stages of their careers rather than their primes as well.) I know Coliseum Video was pretty hit-or-miss with full match coverage and I wasn't sure if this one had matches in full or not. Matches are almost all in full, as far as I can tell. Andre's matches usually ran short anyway, so there isn't much need to adjust to fit space. (I worry that guys like Ric Flair and Terry Funk are remembered more the latter stages of their careers rather than their primes as well.) Flair's career is well covered. I think his working reputation is alright. Funk definately will get the short shrift as a worker, since his best matches occured in the 1970s. In fact, I think almost all U.S. wrestlers get short-sighted if they did not have their best matches on supercards, particualrly if their careers span both eras.
