Benoit is once again the Ironman ...

Sunday Night Heat: Maven pinned Rhyno

Pay-per-view bouts - included Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler doing commentary for the Raw matches and Michael Cole & Tazz covering the Smackdown! matches, with JR and Tazz covering the Rumble match; featured Smackdown! GM Teddy Long announcing that JBL would defend the world title against the Big Show in a barbed wire steel cage match at No Way Out:

WWE Smackdown! World Champion John Bradshaw Layfield defeated Kurt Angle and the Big Show at 12:04 by pinning Angle with the Clothesline from Hell after Angle reentered the ring; a minute earlier, the Bashams and Orlando Jordan came ringside, with medics and a stretcher, after the champion was driven through the barricade by Show; at the same time, Mark Jindrak and Luther Reigns came to the ring to prevent Show from making a pin on Angle; Jordan, instead of putting JBL on the stretcher, rolled him back inside the ring where he immediately dropped Angle with the clothesline

WWE Raw World Champion Triple H pinned Randy Orton at 21:27 with a clothesline, as Orton tried in vain to use the champion’s sledgehammer, followed by the Pedigree; mid-way through the bout, Orton appeared to have sustained a concussion after failing a DDT attempt; due to pre-match stipulations made by Raw GM Eric Bischoff earlier in the evening, Evolution was banned from ringside for the duration of the bout

I appreciate the work, Cawthon. I never understand why when they claim two minutes, they never stick to it.

Actually, this time around they set it at 90 seconds.

The entry times are when they got IN the ring, not necessarily when the buzzer sounded. Dean was doing a workout on the floor until the countdown began for HBK's entrance.

Not sure where you got six by Batista. I watched it twice, and here is my list, as part of a post in the Rumble thread.

Also, here are the "Most Eliminations" list, ranked from most to least. There were three instances of a person getting eliminated by more than one person, as Holly was eliminated by Benoit and Guerrero; Hassan was eliminated by Reigns, Benoit, Jericho, Edge, Booker, and Benjamin; and Edge was eliminated by Batista and Cena. You can call them assists or 1/2 an elimination, depending on how you would personally score it. If you wanted to be technichal, the Hassan elimination could be counted as 1/6 an elimination instead of 1/2. For my list below, the 1/6th elimination was used for our "most Eliminations" bet at my apartment.

Batista 4 1/2

Edge 4 1/6

HBK 3

Cena 2 1/2

Eddy 2 1/2

Booker 2 1/6

Flair 2

Jericho 1 1/6

Holly 1

Rey 1

Snitsky 1

Kane 1

Benoit 2/3

Reigns 1/6

Shelton 1/6

Hassan took out Scotty 2 Hottie

Angle took out HBK

Batistia eliminated Jericho, Snitsky, Benoit, Edge, Christian, Cena. That's six.

Co-Eliminations count as a elimination.

Watch again........Flair throws Benoit out. The announcers even said, "Batista doing the work, Flair reaping the rewards" or something similar. Batista started to help him and just watched him throw Benoit out.

So, if you count co-eliminations as 1 elimination, that's still only 5.

good tidbits there. anyhow I was kinda dissapointed by 90 sec intervals, but it was a must considering the rumble match started after 10 pm eastern so they couldnt go a faull hour. Hell the show went off the air (to my watch) at 7:56 west coast time. Thats got be a recent record for a ppv show. the slow spots in the orton-hh match and then the fact that they had to go to a backstage segment with jbl-long (this would have been bettre saved for SD but...) meant they couldnt even put on a pre rumble video package and had to go straight to the ring in a hurry. however the rumble worked out fine, excpet for the fact that the ring was clogged up often, but they had nice little spots in there, like benjamin and hass teaming up once again ( apot I marked out for personally) and the raw vs sd battle, nice touch on the hassan thing, even if it does seem a bit wrong somehow lol

Id have to see the show a second time to get a real opinion as I got distracted by my friends kids during the show. The dvd should be out soon so maybe Ill pick it up (along with 2004s rumble so I can finally see it )

but it seemed like a pretty solid show with nothing outright sucking. the rumble itselfwas booked pretty solid as usual even without Patterson (though it seemed like his fingerprints were all over this one hmmm?)

vince mcmahon sliding in and ending up on his ass was the funniest thing I have seen in recent rumble memory (ok maybe scott steiner blowing up and not being able to execute simple moves in 03 was a tad funnier)

Im glad they settled on 1 winner and it was a cute nod to 1994. Batista clearly was the crowd favorite here though.

However I wonder how they are going to book a reasonable length match with batista vs hhh

Batista got the good pop when he came out but after both men went out, Cena and Batista were getting cheered pretty equally, IMO. No clear favorite.

Meltzer even said in the 1/31 Observer that they would be taking a risk pitting Cena vs. Batista in the Rumble, seeing as though the crowd would have to side with one over the other.

Sounded like the crowd reaction was pretty even to me.

Well I had a hard time hearing it all since I was at my neighbors house and little kids were running around making it hard to judge everything as I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the help though- I guess thats not too surprising. I mentioned on the rumble thread that Cena is crazy over and it would be a major mistake to not let him take JBLS title as Mania unless they want to completely kill the SD brand-which with all the cancellation rumors wouldnt be a surprise and we kinda know that Vince favors RAW

Wonder if theyll edit this at all on the DVD? (I hope Mcmahons slip and slide will be left alone but they did edit Ultime Dragon at wm xx so.... and yknow randys "sh--" comments will be left off)

Where's the animated GIF for this? That was a bonafide 1.0 on the Shockmaster Scale.

Not really. Christian drew #29. So the rumble was almost over anyways when he came out since the rumble lasted about 8 minutes longer.

Christian also drew Cena's #. Christian had good luck in that aspect last night.

Hey all you people that thought I was nuts back a few months ago when I picked Rey almost got to eat crow.:)

I know he became the sentimental favorite at my house.

GOD DAMN YOU EDGE, eliminating a bunch of much better wrestlers after your horrible opening match.

LONGEST RESTHOLD EVER and then you toss Rey Rey.

Yes, wrestling is indeed scripted.

So you know who should be fired?

The person that dropped like 10 minutes of restholds in Edge/HBK.

As well as the person who had Edge in the Final 3, when about 16-20 more talented wrestlers had to be eliminated before him.

I think we need to acknowledge that Hurricane combined totals in 2002 and 2004(58 seconds) didn't total his *still* shitty entry time this year.

He actually lasted longer then I expected him to.

Frig Paul London should of lasted like 10 more minutes.. although 3 is longer than I expected..

Haas also lasted longer then I expected.. Thank God.

Dupree lasted pretty long for being treated like a Jobber recently.

and finally.. Christian... I'm guessing because they were short on time.. he's ring time was cut back.. but still 2 minutes? That pisses me off so badly.

If he's such a jobber why was he one of only 5 people to be seen drawing his #?(Flair, Guerrero, Batistia, Cena being the others). He was booked for what he is. The mid-card comedy guy. It's not like he Luke 1991ed this thing. The match literally ended a few minutes after he entered. So technically he was there at the end.
