Kardo Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 That was a book series more than a cartoon I think. But I can't think of the name either. Yeah, they were primarily books. Someone must know this. Mr. Men www.mrmen.com *sniffle sniffle*
The Metal Maniac Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Beakman's World (not a cartoon but this seems to be a completely forgotten kids show) I remember this show very well. It explained the fucking THEORY OF RELATIVITY in one episode. Yeah, that's right. Some crazy scientist dude with a guy in a rat suit explained E=MC^2 to me.
SuperJerk Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I remember them being 30 minutes. Jem was based on a Hasbro toy, and the cartoon was made by the same studio that did GI Joe and Transformers. It was kinda weird. They started off with a half-hour block consisting of 10-minute (incl commercials) eps of Jem, Bigfoot and Robotix. Then, they moved to 15 minutes each with the shows rotating (I think they added a different show here as well). Finally, Jem got the full 1/2 hour, and the others went away. I think the 10/15 minute episodes were just the individual segments of the 30 minute versions. When Jem got her own 30 minute show, they reran the older 10/15 shows as complete episodes. I totally had to pull that shit out of the back of my mind.

Highland Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 (edited) Voltron: The cartoon from the 80's, not that crappy CG abortion. Samurai Pizza Cats Thundarr BraveStar MASK Mighty Orbots Edited February 17, 2005 by Highland
Highland Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Not exactly a cartoon, but Captain Power. "Power on!"
starvenger Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Voltron: The cartoon from the 80's, not that crappy CG abortion. Yeah. That 3-D version, you can see that the creators meant well, but talk about hella-bad. Not exactly a cartoon, but Captain Power. Ahead of it's time. The late 80's wasn't the best time to have a dark, post-apocolyptic kids show.
Special K Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I liked Silverhawks (so sue me) Inhumanoids drove me nuts because I loved the toys, never saw the show. Do you ever download a few of the old shows and watch them? Say what you will about Pokemon and Power Rangers and that sort of stuff, but shows like He-Man were the most random, short attention span shows of all time. You can watch them, and they just DO NOT MAKE SENSE!
Guest PlatinumBoy Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Stunt Dawgs, the Where's Waldo Cartoon, Eek the Cat, Bonkers, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, Heathcliff, Robocop I think had an 80's cartoon with Dino Riders and Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. While not a cartoon, there was some show about these huge lifesize Sea Monkeys or something like that--used to come on real early on Fox on Saturday mornings I think. Also not cartoons, but all the Power Rangers rip offs: VR Troopers, the Ultraman like one (forget what it was called), Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills....
ChrisMWaters Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Also not cartoons, but all the Power Rangers rip offs: VR Troopers, the Ultraman like one (forget what it was called), Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills.... Don't forget the Beetleborgs! As for the topic...the Back to the Future cartoon. Chronicaling AFTER the movie...yet somehow the Delorian was rebuilt... I also found it funny that while Christopher Lloyd did the live sequences, he did NOT do the voice for Doc Brown in the cartoon itself.
muzz Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 MASK(I believe this is what it was called, the one where the car doors would open and the cars would be able to fly) M-M-M-MASK...Always riding hot on VENOM's trail... I still have a few of those on my Hard drive. EDIT: Also, with what Spiff said... my favorite was "Stiletto On." Got the series on VHS, but I don't think it's that obscure. Same with Battle of the Planets. MASK isn't obscure, but judging by the median age of the board, most people are too young to have watched it during its initial run. Battle of the Planets I would say is obscure, since I had to google "1980's cartoons" to even remember the title of the cartoon. We still have some M.A.S.K novels in our bookshelf, had no idea it was an actual cartoon.
starvenger Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Also not cartoons, but all the Power Rangers rip offs: VR Troopers, the Ultraman like one (forget what it was called), Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills.... Yeah, it was a bit of Sentai overload. The Ultraman-alike was Superhuman Samurai Syber (or maybe it was Cyber) Squad. And it's scary I remember this, but it starred future Boy Meets World supporting cast member Matthew Lawrence AND the nerdy kid from Parker Lewis. Do you ever download a few of the old shows and watch them? Say what you will about Pokemon and Power Rangers and that sort of stuff, but shows like He-Man were the most random, short attention span shows of all time. You can watch them, and they just DO NOT MAKE SENSE! That was part of the fun of the 80's. If the cartoon was not an anime import (and sometimes even if it was), it was only there to sell toys (or get kids to play more Frogger and/or Q*Bert), and screw the production values. Of course nowadays most of the shows are just anime imports, and they're slicker (ongoing) 22 minute commercials than anything we got in the 80's.

They imported the action scenes and added the American actors.
starvenger Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 They imported the action scenes and added the American actors. Kinda goes without saying for any imported Sentai/live action series, although Power Rangers have gotten better at mixing the "American" action scenes with the Japanese ones. Ultraman Tiga (? I think that's the name) is an exception, as they only dubbed it.
Guest wildpegasus Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Bionic Six Anybody watch "Jem"? My older sister got me hooked on it. Those bitches were hot. Actually, for a show that had eps that were (at various times) 10, 15 or 30 minutes long, it was pretty good. Odd thought, but was Jem a model for Sharon Apple in Macross Plus? Yeah, I watched some of Jem and The Holograms show. I was a closet fan though, even in my own house.
Guest wildpegasus Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Anyone here ever watch Toxic Crusaders? Yes, but I didn't like it which isn't a diss because I didn't like a lot of children's shows. My younger brother liked it a lot when it was on. Anyone watch the Hercules show? Anyone else have a crush on Helena?
Si82 Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Not really obscure or fogotten but certainly show I watched as a kid: Around the World with Willy Fog Dogtanian Dungeons and Dragons He-Man Henry's Cat Inspector Gadget M.A.S.K. Mr Benn Mysterious Cities of Gold Pigeon Street Thundercats Toxic Crusaders
starvenger Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Anyone watch the Hercules show? Anyone else have a crush on Helena? Newton needed to go to Hades. Go to Hades.
The Metal Maniac Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Anyone watch the Hercules show? Anyone else have a crush on Helena? I loved that show, if only for how much they frigged with mythology. I mean....a power ring? Daedalus, the evil bastard? Just weird.
razazteca Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Which one of those Power Ranger ripoff's was on the USA network? The only good thing about that show was that they were wearing ultra tight costumes that looked like S&M gear and the girls nipples were extra pointy.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Did it have really horrible special effects?
razazteca Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I don't remember but it did have even more laughable monster fights that looked like Ultraman fighting Godzilla at times.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I think the show was Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills.
GreatWhiteNope Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 I think the show was Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills. Either that or Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 He mentioned it being on USA so it isn't the Cyber Squad show. I vaguely remember the one I mentioned and how horrible it was. I only found the name because I remembered something about Beverly Hills.
razazteca Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Cyber Squad was on the Family Channel or FOX?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 It was on the WB type stations where I lived.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Someone told me they are recreating some of the Looney Tune characters for a show on the WB called "Loonatics". I dont' know if I'm gonna wanna watch it or not... LOOK WHAT THE'VE DONE TO BUGS!
