Guest sek69 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 This is sad. WB is treating Looney Tunes like ESPN treated the NHL. They completely ignore them, then turn around and point at their low ratings. Cartoon Network used to air Looney Tunes all the time but now they've all been pushed to Boomerang (a channel like 10 people get) in favor of endless Scooby-Doo marathons. When the movie "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" came out, it was widely ignored and ended up being a disappointment despite being much better than the last Tune movie Space Jam. Consider when the Power Puff Girls and Scooby-Doo movies came out, Cartoon Network was plugging them 24/7 but Looney Tunes got completely thrown under the bus. As a cartoon mark this really pisses me off. Both volumes of the Golden Collection have been huge selllers, which means there is still a large market for the old school cartoons. They don't need to be dressed up like anime characters to resonate with today's kids, they just need to be aired on a TV station you don't have to offer oral to your cable company to get. Space Jam starred Michael Jordan, Back in Action starred Brendan Fraser. They never had a chance. And that's even discounting the fact that Fraser went to Upper Canada College, and by default, sucks. Guest sek69 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 Space Jam got promoted because Michael Jordan was in it. Back in Action was a far better movie and the only reason I knew it was out is because Brendon Fraser pimped it on the Daily Show. You'd think that since due to corporate mergers, WB has its fingers in about 847 cable channels, that they'd pimp the movie *somewhere*.

All I can say is, it's AOL Time-Warner. The same people that owned WCW, and was gonna go with kung fu Superman until Brian Singer (thankfully) scrapped that. This is the conglomerate that we're hoping doesn't find a way to fuck up Batman Begins. These are the guys that paired Elmira Fudd with Pinky and the Brain. In short, don't put anything past them. The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 For "Loonatics," the six characters are being projected 700 years into the future, given superpowers, and outfitted in tight-fitting, slenderizing space gear. SUPERPOWERS???? I'd like to know what the fuck they plan on using for superpowers. All the characters are already invincible to anything, and most of them can pull anything ranging from a buick to battleship out of their pocket; what else do you NEED? KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 All Bugs needed to do to thwart Daffy was a simple play on words, AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY, DAMMIT!!!! This will bomb and bomb badly while people continue to watch the cartoons from the 40s and 50s, so this shouldn't hurt the legacy much. Hell, they might get so much negative feedback that they scrap the project all together. I also liked "Back in Action", BTW
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 Oh, on the news this morning, they played a sound clip of "Buzz" Bunny saying "What's up, doc?". Imagine an actor failing to audition for Terry in Batman Beyond. That's not Looney Tunes.

You'd think that since due to corporate mergers, WB has its fingers in about 847 cable channels, that they'd pimp the movie *somewhere*. I've read (and this is just rumors so take this with a grain of salt) that two of the reasons why "Back in Action" wasn't promoted was do to the fact that 1. The film was designed as a Reese Witherspoon vehicle that got FUBARed when Reese decided to do Legally Blonde II instead, resulting in Jenna Elfman getting the part written explicitly for Reese and it getting dropkicked down the priority ladder at Warner Brothers and 2. The movie was supposed to be a test for a series of new theatrical shorts featuring the Loony Toons with studio executives explicitly pushing the writers to make the series "Simpsons-esque", which pissed off some of TPTB at Warner-Brothers, who decided to deepsix the film so as to deepsix any chance of WB greenlighting new "Simpsons-esque" Loony Toon shorts... Guest Ronixis Report post Posted February 18, 2005 Oh this has been a long day for me. One, I was on CBS News (The second poster with the Thundercats Advitar) when they were mentioning...the blogs of negative complaints...(hey, I got to start somewhere) Two, the damn toon news sites and opinions pieces are running crazy. They have calls from local radio stations(they want to interview me)- man its been hour by hour... Three, the show itself- they are trying to dim down the news about Naruto. I mean come ON, why wouldnt they? AOL Time Warner might have 847 channels, but they all hate each other. So when a anime that has 5 million strong fans out the gate is about to air on a block that needs help, well OH yeah you better put out a distration. This is one news item that is not going away. All that did was give AOL Time Wanker just more steam to play this on the air.

At least I hope that's what I smell I love Duck Dodgers, but damn its lousy time slot (12:30 AM Friday nights, BTW). This is ever gheyer than the watered-down 80's Looney Toons and the commercials where Popeye and Bluto were portrayed as BUTT-buddies combined. This kind of stupid crap is what damn near ruined the game in my avatar.

I lurk at an animation board frequented by people in the know, and you're right when you said that Back in Action was going to be the springboard for a new generation of Looney Tunes theatrical shorts to be shown before Warner Brothers movies just like the originals were. Problem was that the shorts that were made were so horrible only an handful of them ever saw the light of day and WB pretty much shitcanned the whole project. It wasn't that they were "Simpson-esque", rather than the writing was so horrid 3/4 of the shorts planned never even went into production. Since the shorts were going to be a big role in the movie's promotion, it cut the legs off the whole deal. Looney Tunes also suffers from SNL Syndrome, hardcore cartoon smarks will never accept anything other than the 40's-60's shorts so anything else but the originals will suck.
