Vern Gagne Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 If someone mentions a team, and that's the player, either current or former, you most associate with said team? Minnesota Twins-Kirby Puckett Minnesota Timberwolves-Kevin Garnett
Brett Favre Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth New York Knicks: Willis Reed New York Jets: Joe Namath Current: New York Yankees: Derek Jeter New York Knicks: Stephon Marbury New York Jets: Chad Pennington
The Czech Republic Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Sammy Sosa Bobby Hull Michael Jordan Walter Payton

CanadianChris Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Toronto Blue Jays - Joe Carter Ottawa Senators - Daniel Alfredsson Denver Broncos - John Elway L.A. Lakers - Magic Johnson Toronto Raptors - Vince Carter Boston Red Sox - Ted Williams Toronto Maple Leafs - Darryl Sittler Montreal Canadiens - Rocket Richard Boston Bruins - Bobby Orr Montreal Expos - Youppi
The Czech Republic Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Montreal Expos - Youppi! Edited for accuracy. The ! is crucial. And the sad thing is that you're absolutely right. Forget Larry Walker, Andre Dawson, Pedro Martinez. It's Youppi!.
MARTYEWR Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I'll cover the Canadian franchises (past and present). I'm assuming these aren't the best players in the franchise, but the first player that comes to mind: MLB: Toronto Blue Jays: Joe Carter Montreal Expos: Gary Carter NBA: Toronto Raptors: Vince Carter Vancouver Grizzlies: Bryant Reeves NHL: Ottawa Senators: Daniel Alfreddson Montreal Canadiens: Maurice Richard Toronto Maple Leafs: Wendel Clark Calgary Flames: Theo Fleury Edmonton Oilers: Wayne Gretzky Vancouver Canucks: Trevor Linden Quebec Nordiques: Michel Goulet Winnipeg Jets: Bobby Hull
Crimson Platypus Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth New York Knicks: Willis Reed New York Jets: Joe Namath Current: New York Yankees: Derek Jeter New York Knicks: Stephon Marbury New York Jets: Chad Pennington How can there be a "Current" all time?
Brett Favre Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth New York Knicks: Willis Reed New York Jets: Joe Namath Current: New York Yankees: Derek Jeter New York Knicks: Stephon Marbury New York Jets: Chad Pennington How can there be a "Current" all time? Current as in today...today's players that are associated with the team the most. Eh, nevermind.
nl5xsk1 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Vancouver Canucks: Trevor Linden sadly, most non-hockey fans would put Bertuzzi there, just for the hit on Moore.
MikeJordan23 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Green Bay Packers - Bart Starr Denver Broncos - John Ewlay St. Louis Cardinals - Ozzie Smith Oh and when I think Yankees, I always think Mickey Mantle, Lou Gherig, Yogi Berra, and Joe Dimaggio before Babe Ruth Pistons - Isiah Thomas Celtics - Larry Bird 76ers - Dr. J
Brett Favre Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 When I think of baseball, I think of Babe Ruth.
starvenger Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Boston Bruins - Bobby Orr And sadly, this brings back memories of "Rock 'em, Sock 'em Techno", the bizarre collaboration between Don Cherry and Chris Sheppard. "Number 4 is Bobby Orr - Let's Go!!!!!" Toronto Maple Leafs: Frank Mahovolich and Darryl Sittler Toronto Raptors: Wince Carter Toronto Blue Jays: Jooooooooooooooooe Carter Toronto Argonauts: Pinball Team Canada basketball: Steve Nash Team Canada hockey: Paul Henderson Montreal Canadiens: Rocket Richard and Guy Lafleur Montreal Expos: Youppi! Calgary Flames: Lanny Macdonald Edmonton Oilers: duh Vancouver Canucks: Trevor Linden. Or maybe Tiger Williams Winnipeg Jets: Dale Hawerchuk Quebec Nordiques: The Statsnys Buffalo Sabres: The Dominator Detroit Red Wings: Gordie Howe. Currently, Steve Yzerman Chicago Blackhawks: Bobby Hull Boston Bruins: Bobby Orr and Cam "Seabass" Neely Philadelphia Flyers: Bobby Clarke. Although it would've been Pelle Lindbergh New York Islanders: Mike Bossy St. Louis Blues: Mike Liut. Currently, Chris Pronger and Al Macinnis Minnesota North/Dallas Stars: Mike Modano
nl5xsk1 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Green Bay Packers - Bart Starr St. Louis Cardinals - Ozzie Smith It's weird that you mixed oldschool & current like that ... one would presume that you would have either referenced two old-timers (e.g. Starr & Stan Musial) or two current/recent guys (e.g. Favre and Ozzie). It's not a bad thing, just an interesting thing.
MikeJordan23 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Green Bay Packers - Bart Starr St. Yeah I see what you mean. It's probably cause I'm a Cardinals fan, and the other fans I talk to seem to all equate St. Louis with Ozzie Smith and vice versa in terms of sports.
MARTYEWR Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Toronto Argonauts: Pinball starvenger, since you mentioned a CFL team, I finally feel I have free reign to cover all of them. - Ottawa Rough Riders: Russ Jackson (The Renegades haven't been around long enough to qualify for signature players) - Montreal Alouettes: Sam Etcheverry - Toronto Argonauts: Mike "Pinball" Clemons - Hamilton Tiger-Cats: Angelo Mosca - Winnipeg Blue Bombers: Chris Walby - Saskatchewan Roughriders: Ron Lancaster - Calgary Stampeders: Doug Flutie - Edmonton Eskimos: Henry "Gizmo" Williams - B.C. Lions: "Dirty 30" Jim Young
Guest LooneyTune Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 NBA: Vancouver Grizzlies: Bryant Reeves what a way to be remembered. One of the most disappointing players to be picked in the top 5 of an NBA Draft, and when he finally retires, the team gets good.
Ripper Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 NBA: Vancouver Grizzlies: Bryant Reeves what a way to be remembered. One of the most disappointing players to be picked in the top 5 of an NBA Draft, and when he finally retires, the team gets good. You are not going to call Bryant reeves one of the top disappointing picks when Pervis Ellison, Michael Olighwagldkjalkandi, Joe Smith, Shawn Bradly, and Sam Bowie are RIGHT there.
Black Lushus Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 and don't forget Christian Laettner...
2GOLD Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Baltimore Orioles: Cal Ripken Jr. It's so easy, might as well get it out of the way.
Ripper Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 and don't forget Christian Laettner... CHristain Lattner was a quality player for a few years in Minnesota, and was a Damn fine player in Atlanta for a few years so at least he has something to show for it. The rest of those guys always sucked.
Guest Coffey Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Sammy Sosa No way I think of Sammy Sosa when thinking of the Chicago Cubs. I think of Ernie Banks and then Ryne Sandberg. Nowadays I'd think of Aramis Ramirez.
Mik Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Florida Marlins: I think of Gary Sheffield but I think the main consensus would be Jeff Conine Tarheels: Michael Jordan Giants: Phil Simms
2GOLD Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Some of these teams I don't associate a player, I associate a coach. Like North Carolina, I think Dean Smith And Indiana, I think Bob Knight So many good players came out of there, it's hard to just say a player name.
The Czech Republic Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Yeah the nature of college sports makes it harder to pick one player that represents the team. Like Jordan is Chicago Bulls more than North Carolina, easily.
Vern Gagne Posted February 24, 2005 Author Report Posted February 24, 2005 Giants: Phil Simms No way. It's L.T. North Stars-Neal Broten
Bored Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 MLB Diamonbacks: Randy Johnson Braves: Hank Aaron Cubs: Ernie Banks Reds: Pete Rose Rockies: Larry Walker Marlins: Um...Livan Hernandez? Astros: Craig Biggio Dodgers: Duke Snider Brewers: Robin Yount Expos: Tim Raines Mets: Tom Seaver Phillies: Mike Schmidt Pirates: Honus Wagner Cardinals: Stan Musial Padres: Tony Gwynn Giants: Willie Mays Angels: Tim Salmon Orioles: Cal Ripken Red Sox: Ted Williams White Sox: Frank Thomas Indians: Bob Feller Tigers: Ty Cobb Royals: George Brett Twins: Harmon Killebrew Yankees: Babe Ruth A's: Rickey Henderson Mariners: Ken Griffey Jr. Devil Rays: Aubrey Huff Rangers: Ivan Rodriguez Blue Jays: Carlos Delgado
Ced Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Football Rams: Deacon Jones 49ers: Jerry Rice Chargers: Junior Seau Miami: Dan Marino Bengals: Anthony Munoz Basketball Kings: Mitch Richmond
The Czech Republic Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Dodgers: Duke Snider I'd say Sandy Koufax, or maybe Tommy Lasorda even though he was just Mr. Manager
therealworldschampion Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Phillies: Mike Schmidt Eagles: Chuck Bednarik Flyers: Bobby Clarke Sixers: Julius Erving
