Obviously just the name won't make an arena, there's gotta be history behind it, but there's some badly named arenas that I just can't imagine honour and prestige playing in.

I'd love to play in MSG, Fenway Park or the Montreal Forum.

Even Bell Centre, Air Canada Centre and GM Place aren't too bad. It's gone now, but I liked Skyreach Centre. I also like the name Great American BallPark. I saw Barry Bonds hit a homerun once there. Also got head that night in an unrelated incident.

For the bad, I nominate Tropicana Field, Minute Maid Park, Gaylord Entertainment Center, St. Times Pete Forum, National Car Rental Center, and SaveMoreFoods Arena.

Anyone else?

Any corporate named stadium or arena (which is almost all of them unfortunately) sucks. Although the Wizards play at the MCI Center which isn't bad since it rolls off the tongue and has a fun nickname in "The Phonebooth".

Whats the name of the Padres stadium? PetCo? Now THAT sucks, although probably not as bad as Tropicana Field.

You know what I've noticed? Just about all of our choices for "worst arena name" have been buildings named after some corporation who bought the naming rights. I'm waiting for high schools to start doing that. Imagine the state basketball championships being decided at "Larry's Super Pawn Gymnasium".

"This will take place at Springfield's Yahoo Search Engine Arena!"

I don't mind and have somewhat accepted that corporations now own every stadium pretty much. The problem is when they're too wordy or badly whored. Rogers Centre is at least named for a guy somewhat.

Someday, I want a company to buy a stadium and then go "Let's give it such and such name, because having our name would suck ass"

And the name given instead of the corporation's name actually was awesome, which would then make people like the company for not being absolute whores of themselves.

Anyways, Skyreach Centre I think was the best one.

If it means money towards the school, or school district they should do it.

The only reason I said Rogers Center was bad is because SkyDome is a better name. Corporate names are ok if they are not unusual like Staples Center or Arco Arena. Every time I hear them, I do not think about the companies.

If Best Buy named an arena, it would bother me. (eg. Best Buy Center) It sounds so corporate.

Welcome to the Best Buy Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. God, if that could only happen.

Don't forget the unfortunate happenstance of corporate naming rights, either the company goes BYE BYE (Pro Player in Miami) gets renamed in corporate mergers or aquasitions (Shamut, err Fleet, err Bank of America? Center in Boston)

and of course if the company is embroilled in the mother load of embarrissing scandals. That would be the home of the Houston Astros, the park formerlly known as Enron Field

Or Holla Dollar Gym. :D Hey, my school had a WWF house show there once!

How do you not think "office supplies" with the Staples Center? It's like Kobe Bryant is searching for printer cartridges or something

I'm fine with Arco Arena because there are no Arcos where I live so I don't think of it as a company

Wachovia Center

The First Union (aka F.U.) Center was THE perfect name for the arena, I thought.

HSBC Arena

What I find funny about this is that nothing says "Buffalo" like "The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation" (London-based, naturally).

Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Fenway, and sadly Yankee are the best in the MLB, though they should have kept Pacific Bell Park even after the SBC merger since the Stadium sits on the bay which is a gateway to the Pacific.

Lambeau and Soldier best stadium names in football.

Yankee stadium gets the nod because of Monument Park... and because it's the friggin Yankees. It might have an unoriginal name (named after the team), but it won't be confused if someone named Tropicana Field (blech) "Devil Ray Stadium".

Darthiki made it sound like "Yankee Stadium" being historic was a bad thing with the "sadly", so I just pointed out something... then rambled about the Devil Rays horrible stadium again.
