syxx2001 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I remember in the mid-late 90s, some shows would have track laughter cause me and my mom would sit and be watching and say "I hear that same laugh on like 5 other shows". An infamous one was one that played during black sitcoms and someone would go "Aahaha...GO GIRL....ahaha". So annoying. And I read that the Steve Harvey show ended cause Steve didnt want to do the show anymore cause there were no more audiences. So, yea, answer the question please.
starvenger Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I think that you (syxx not Bob) forget that "Taped before a live studio audience" doesn't mean that a laugh track won't be used. It's implied, but you're left to draw your own conclusions.
Darthtiki Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Speaking from experience of going to a sitcom taping, they mike the audience and probably add some generic laugh track for better effect.
Black Lushus Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I, personally, always hated when the crowd would go "ooooooooooh" whenever people kissed...on the other hand I always loved the ovations the characters on Married With Children would get when they first show up in an episode... Saved by The Bell had the worst laugh track ever...
BUTT Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I always thought it was dumb when they cheered for the characters on Married....with Children. It's not like they didn't introduce the actors on the show before the taping. The worst was Unhappily Ever After, where they would cheer every time an actor came on screen. That was just ridiculous.
Slayer Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I, personally, always hated when the crowd would go "ooooooooooh" whenever people kissed... Usually not just when they kissed, but also during any sort of verbal tittilation between characters And it annoyed me too
Nighthawk Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Every character getting wild applause for walking into the room is one sure sign it's time to end the show.
nl5xsk1 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Saved by The Bell had the worst laugh track ever... I always thought that "That 70s Show" had a really blatant one, too ... I haven't watched one minute of that show since it premiered because of how distracting I found the laugh track.
eiker_ir Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 i don't mind the tracks, but i really hate when they give ovations when someone enters the room, and the character just stands there saying nothing until they stop. EX: Married with Children
Special K Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 'Sports Night' had the worst laugh track for the few episodes it lasted.
NoCalMike Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 My friend went to a taping to Saved by the Bell way back in the day, and believe it or not, they would re-do takes in order to prep the crowd for those zany reactions...lol.
Boon Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Looking back- people always popped for Kramer on Seinfeld. It started at like the third season, and it never really stopped.
JST Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 i don't mind the tracks, but i really hate when they give ovations when someone enters the room, and the character just stands there saying nothing until they stop. EX: Married with Children Family Matters is also guilty of this. I can understand Urkel getting pops, but when Carl and Eddie were getting it, yeesh.
Taker666 Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 I know family Matters actually had studio audiences around the time it ended. I actually went to one of the tapings to the show. The Audeance weren't as loud and cheery as they were on alot of the episodes, and when I finally saw the episode when it aired, audience sounded a little louder then they were at the taping. hmmm.

EX: Married with Children Family Matters is also guilty of this. I can understand Urkel getting pops, but when Carl and Eddie were getting it, yeesh. The earliest I remember was Happy Days. Like the others, literally every single recurring character would get it, including Tom Bosley. There are many eerie similarities between Happy Days and Family Matters. Both spin offs. Both had supporting character take over the show. The father figures were similar (blustery, overweight, overwhelmed, etc). Both had a sibling inexplicably disappear. The appleause thing. There's more I can't remember, I haven't been reminded of this in a while.

Art Sandusky Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 Seinfeld had the "applaud central characters entering" thing start around the beginning of the fourth season, but it quieted down a few episodes after it started. Kramer might get a laugh on his intial pop-in, but not an out-and-out ovation like before.
eiker_ir Posted March 12, 2005 Report Posted March 12, 2005 yeah Seinfeld was tolerable, Kramer got the little cheer when he entered but it was justified, i mean i still laugh everytime he rushes in through the door.
