natey2k4 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I've continued looking.. and you can buy each seperate set at a price of $20.. that would cost more over time, but if there was certain discs you had no interest in.. it may save you a bit.

The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 I've got the Box Set. Some of the matches are pretty good in and of themselves, as well as being interesting from a retro/historical viewpoint. But I'd say it's worth getting just for the Cornette/Meltzer commentry which is excellent, very informing and entertaining.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Got mine at Walmart for $14.50 US. Haven't even scratched the surface of it of but I'm sure just hearing Cornette yack on for 10 hours is worth it.

Cornette repeats himself several times during the Randy Savage matches......and do not fast foward the bear match.

It's highly unlikely that I'm gonna change it anytime soon. As for the feds, it's mostly the old territories like Memphis, Texas, Florida, ect.

res37618 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Yeah, all of the WalMarts where I live have the Wrestling Gold set for $14.50 (the five disc set). And, Deepdiscountdvd used to have the Before They Were Famous disc for like $11.00 - that's where I got mine from. You shouldn't have to pay a lot for it wherever you get it from. It's an entertaining set, especially with Cornette and Meltzer's commentary.
Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted March 14, 2005 I got my set for £10.00 from Rowdys DVDs a couple years ago, but I think they've got wise to it now and bumped the price back up. It's such a severely awesome set, though. And the Meltzer/Cornette commentary is as entertaining as it is informative – my girlfriend has absorbed so much classic wrestling history by just by Cornette osmosis. JJMc 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 A lot of the matches were from Memphis in the early 80s (like the Savage/Rude ones for example), but I've only watched 2 of the discs, so beyond that I'm not sure. The Andre/Sheik match was from Detroit, I think...
natey2k4 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Are any of the matches decent time lengths and what not? or are they all under like 5 or 6 minutes?
Betty Houle 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Everyone should buy this set. 15 bucks. A ton o' matches and history. The Shawn Michaels match is worth the price alone!
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 I think most of the matches are around 10 minutes or less. Might've been a few longer than that, but it's been quite a while since I've watched those discs, so I'm not 100% sure. I think I paid about 50 bucks for the set when it first came out, directly from the Wrestling Gold website. It is interesting watching a match with the original commentary for the nostalgia, and then listening to Cornette and Meltzer, with all their insight. Definitely buy it if you have any interest in old school wrestling. My only criticism is that Detroit, Southwest, and Memphis seem heavily represented, and I wish they could've gotten stuff from a few other territories, like maybe Portland or World Class, but overall it is very good.
