Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Wait? How did he blame the media? Did you hire someone to club him in the knee with a crowbar or something? One of his exact quotes: "You wanted me to jump off the bridge, I finally have jumped. You wanted the bring me down, you've finally brought me and my family down. Finally done it. From everybody, all of you. So now go pick a different person. I'm done. Do the best I can, that's about it." Fuck him. I'm a bit surprised, though - surprised he hasn't brought up the race card, YET, as he's been quick to do it every other time.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 The actual interview sounded a lot worse than that quote actually. It was all on how "you" finally brought me down. It almost sounded like he was announcing that he was out for the season with hurt feelings.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 You need to know how to translate Bonds speak: when it sounds like he's blaming the media for his injury, he's really blaming them for the fact that he can't use steroids anymore. So, in Bonds mind, yeah, they are preventing him from playing in a roundabout way. Not that they caused the injury, but that they are the cause of his problems. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 It's obvious that he means this season when he says, "maybe by midseason." For the Giants' sake, they'd better hope he makes a quick recovery.
Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Well, the season's over for me. Of course, the Giants didn't HAVE to be built around one player, but that's the been the front office's MO for years now. Pedro Feliz is finally gonna get that playing time that Giants fans have screaming about. If he wasn't a hack, I'd be excited, but he is. At least there'll be a shitload of seats available at the Park. The sports media should kissing Bonds' ass. He's making them look like a million bucks. Just look at the reactions on this board. When has anyone ever sided WITH the media? Shit, Barry could oppose world hunger and you'd get guys on here arguing FOR it. And personally speaking, Barry's my favorite player ever. Best player I've ever seen.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I'm not taking any sides here but I can think of several occasions where the media has tried to make players look bad. For instance, why the hell does ESPN have to have polls and judge the players involved in the steroid hearings? I just think it makes people look bad who haven't been found guilty of anything. It just seems to me like the media will put whatever spin they want on something to make a story.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I do think this is a shame, as Bonds is a remarkable ballplayer, and fans never appreciated his talents even before any whispers of a steroid scandal. It is not unusual for players at Bonds' age to suddenly develop career-threatening injuries. On the contrary, it is quite common. As for the "tired" remarks, those are absolutely true. Old ballplayers do not retire for lack of ability as much as it takes greater effort to train as one ages, to the point where it becomes an exhausting ordeal. Barry Bonds needs 53 home runs to tie Hank Aaron's record. Only three hitters in the history of baseball (Carlton Fisk, Darrell Evans and Dave Winfield) have hit that many after reaching age 40. If he misses this season entirely, only one hitter in baseball history (Fisk) has hit 53 home runs after reaching 41. I now think it is unlikely that Bonds will break the home run record. Just for kicks, here is the Favorite Toy table from the 2005 Bill James Handbook, assessing players' chances at breaking the home run record... Barry Bonds (78%) Alex Rodriguez (31%) Sammy Sosa (25%) Albert Pujols (15%) Jim Thome (11%) Manny Ramirez (4%) Adam Dunn (1%)

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 He came off like such a baby durring his interview. He should be ashamed for dropping "my son" into the segement 200 times, going on and on about how the media was damaging his family and devistating his son...who was sitting next to him and looked ok. Odd timing though...baseball's biggest question mark when it comes to steroids is going to take this season off. Screw Fantasy baseball players...what about season ticket holders. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 They were talking on Dan Patrick today about how Bonds isn't a young guy anymore and it takes him longer to rehab after an injury. But a year? Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 I'd hate to see him go out like this. The guy is/was a great player, with or without steroids, and I want to see him come back and prove that he can still get it done without the juice. Of course, there's the very real possibility that he knows he won't live up to his recent standards and doesn't want to take the hit to his massive ego.... Jorge Gorgeous 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2005 Fuck it, I like Barry. Long balls or otherwise hes been an absolutely amazing ball player. As for his media issues, big deal. Hes always had an unstable relationship with the media - he doesn't owe a goddamn thing to anyone. If hes a lousy interview, too bad. All that being said, if the allegations are true and he abused steroids, then he deserves whatever hes got coming.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2005 People calling someone a pussy for not coming back quicker from having your FUCKING KNEE SLICED OPEN. The knee injury isn't the medias fault and he didn't say it was, but it takes HARD fucking work to get back from a knee injury. Its hard to get motivated when shit is getting shoveled on you constantly. And fans are a bunch of spoiled pussys when it comes to injuries because A: They never had a real one and B: the media just calls the all the same thing. A NBA player misses a month with sprained ankle and people call him a pussy. Its not the same thing as when you twisted your ankle steping off a curb. Its a athlete leaping of the ground and landing all of their huge frame on a fucking ankle. But because you were out walking with no pain in 3 days the NBA player musta been a pussy. Bonds misses a considerable amount of time after getting his knee sliced at the age of 40, he is a pussy. Honestly, FUCK spectators and FUCK the media. Bunch of angry because they never had the talent, sit back and rag on people when they don't have a concept of the pain and work it takes to get healthy again. Usually I disagree with Ripper on some sports issue, but god damn BRAVO for this one. Bonds didn't just have his knee sliced open once, he was in the middle of rehabbing his knee when he had to have a SECOND SURGERY. That was the first sign in his career to Barry that he is getting older and his time in baseball is running out. He's frustrated, he's not able to get on the field and do his thing for even longer and the work to get back has just been doubled plus he's hearing from a bunch of media people calling him a liar and cheater when they don't have a SHRED of evidence other than "well, he got bigger and hit more home runs". I don't know if Rip or anyone else will agree, but FUCK the witch hunt. So for the media to say he is RUNNING is the biggest load of horseshit on the planet. How the hell can he RUN from congress if he's not on the field?? He's more of a target than ever just by sitting at home. I dislike Barry Bonds as a person but I've learned I dislike a lot of scumbag reporters and fans more than ever now.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2005 So the whole BALCO thing isn't a "shred of evidence"? Anyway, I have had knee injuries, three to the same knee in fact. Trust me I know what it feels like. Three torn ligaments skiing (at the same time). Total reconstructive knee surgery. Sprained twice, surgery to clean it out of debris both times. Have dislocated it 4 times since. Hell I've played a softball double header after dislocating it and shoving it back in because we didn't have enough guys to cover me. A year and a half for recovery? Again I ask... What did he do to his knee to need a year and a half?

Hell I've played a softball double header after dislocating it and shoving it back in because we didn't have enough guys to cover me. A year and a half for recovery? Again I ask... What did he do to his knee to need a year and a half? Back to back surgeries and his confidence going straight to hell. This might be the first time in the HISTORY of Barry Bonds where I felt like he was feeling old. He has been told for so long that eventually your body will break down and he didn't believe it. Then he had the first knee surgery and he was still like, "ok, happens all the time." Then BAM, needs a second on the same knee in a short period of time and he suddenly got that realization. He's getting too old for this shit. It really IS that simple. He's blaming everyone cause he doesn't want to believe this. So he turns and points at the people who have always been on his backside. And says, "You had to do this to me". Bonds has always played through injuries to his hamstrings and no one called him a pussy. Now, after back to back surgeries, he starts thinking "I'm done, I can't do this anymore" which is what any ballplayer over 40 would start thinking and suddenly he's a pussy. He might even be thinking, "I'd rather not put my knee in a position where I might need to limp to my son as he grows up". And no, I don't think the BALCO thing is important at all since doctors can give regular people creams and such with mild steroids to rebuild muscles. He stated under the grand jury, it was a cream and clear and that was the end of it. AND that should have been the end of it. This really is a witch hunt, if a guy says, "No" under grand jury then obvious he is a liar cause the opinions have been formed. They are all guilty, there is no such thing as innocence. It's the definition of a witch hunt.
Bored 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2005 I think some get McGwire and Bonds mixed up. McGwire has only been alledged to have used steroids (even in the FBI report there was no evidence collected) but Bonds is on record as confessing to "unknowingly" using steriods. Also in the BALCO case there is a long paper trail as they documented everything they gave to athletes. 2GOLD, the cream and the clear were steroids, Bonds just said he didn't know they were. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 24, 2005 Actually, he's talking about mid-this season to next year, which is a timeline of 4-8 months. I have a friend who works in physical therapy, who's seeen people take a year to get back to full strength for real bad damage (someone who fucked it up bad skiing and had to get basically three different procedures in the same day). It's not unreasonable.
