2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Well since we didn't support them in the war, our country is going to hell in a handbasket. I think he is going to tell us about how the tidal wave is going to wash us away for our huge lack of patriotism, in addition to them getting washed away for being immoral. I'm pretty sure Canada will die when the US kills all the trees up there with smog. It's part of our 59 part plan of Canadian Domination. I think we are currently on step 9: The destruction of the NHL First, we remove the hockey. Then we give Britney Spears a grammy over Celene Dion. Then we remove the trees. AND THEN CANADA IS OURS! We'll say Pauly Shore and Keanu Reeves are big fans, the sport will die in minutes! 59 parts!

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Why don't we all just move to Canada? Loophole~! You have to pass a test. You need to name 5 Famous Canadians who aren't Athletes or Actors/Comedians. Umm, CANADIANS couldn't pull that one off. -=Mike We're not as ignorant about you guys as you are about us, I'm also pretty sure that on a whole we're more educated about our own country as well. Not me though, damn American media. Actually, Canadians are borderline obsessive over Americans. You don't see us conducting poll after poll about how different/similar we are to Canadians. And, according to a survey done for Canada Day in 2000 (focusing on such things as first PM/President and words to the nat'l anthem), Canadians knew less about their country than Americans knew about our own. Weird, huh? Canadian exports are up, our government has much more of a voice in the world community and patriotism is clearly at high right now. Charitable donations are also up. Much MORE of a voice in the world community? Was having LESS of a voice really an option? -=Mike
Vyce 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Don Cherry- Former coach of the Boston Bruins, deserves recognition as a Great Canadian not for his coaching success, but because he aptly embodies Canadian ideals and values: Hard work, toughness and pride, but good nature and compassion at the same time. Too bad he's part of a dying breed in Canada. Elaborate. Canadian exports are up, our government has much more of a voice in the world community and patriotism is clearly at high right now. Charitable donations are also up. Please explain. This doesn't count. They're only paying attention to you cause you're just using your "voice" to bitch and moan about America, which is their favorite past time. But it's okay. We still love you, Canada, even though your words wound us sometimes. We know you don't REALLY mean them. .......But the 59 part plan will continue regardless!!! Weird, huh? You're going to have to give me a source on this, because I don't really buy it. It might be true, but I'm pretty much positive that we know more about America than Americans know about Canada. Though that doesn't really matter, it's funny to see guys like Rick Mercer walk around and convince people that Tim Horton is our Prime Minister.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 You're going to have to give me a source on this, because I don't really buy it. I don't if you can find the source, but I remember it too. Now I can't verify how accurate the survey was though. The findings were that Americans know more about America than Canadians know about Canada, that Canadians know more about America than they do Canada, and that Americans knew virtually nothing about Canada. For example, only something like 20% of Canadians according to the survey knew that our Head of State is Queen Elizabeth II. I'm just going off of memory here, but it was something in that ballpark. Fuck caring for your fellow man. There's a distinct difference between caring for your fellow man, and doing fucking everything for him while trying not to offend anyone who might possibly have a difference of opinion. That's what PC socialism is, not simply caring for your fellow man.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 I think his point is that we do care for our fellow man, and Verne is painting this as PC socialism. Not that PC Socialism is caring for our fellow man. It's just a matter of differences of opinion. Essentially, he is saying that Verne is wrong when he says that Canada is filled with PC socialists. And CG is right.

Justice 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Essentially, he is saying that Verne is wrong when he says that Canada is filled with PC socialists. And CG is right. Uh, no, he's not. He's not saying that you aren't PC Socialists, he's defending PC Socialists by making an overgeneralization. If he had said "Wow, way to overgeneralize a group of people there", you'd be right. But he wasn't. He was defending the idea of everyone being PC Socialists. So you are both wrong.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2005 Fair enough of me to elaborate. The concept of socialism to me includes high taxes yes, but also a fair health care system and theoritically more jobs and a higher GDP. That's what I mean by taking care of your fellow man. Now, this would be even more accurate were Canada's socialist party in power. But it isn't. The NDP actually came in last of all the major parties in last June's election, taking I believe 19 seats. More than in 2000, but still. If I can quote great Liberal leader Pierre Elliot Trudeau: "We are in the radical centre, the extreme middle, that is our position." A bit of an exaggeration yes, but a socialist country? I'd love it, but no.

He's the Canadian equivalent of Pat Buchanan with less political credibility. Paul Martin, the Prime Minister of Canada, is a big-business politician whose main contributors are Bay Street (Canada's version of Wall Street, where the TSE is located) bankers. During his stint as finance minister his budgets were always slanted in that direction.

Freedom isn't simply the ability to speak your mind or believe as you wish...it's also being able to have financial freedom. If you live in Norway and have a 60%+ tax rate, then you aren't free.
