Sonic had THREE shows, all with good qualities.

 

Actually no, the one where he was in a rock band sucked, but the other two kicked ass. Mario's show sucked for the most part.

 

Sonic was cooler, and Mario was only a deeper game because they repeated a lot of the shit over and over when it came to villains and bosses.

 

Sonic may have been shorter, but it was definitely a lot sweeter. Plus the option to play Knuckles in Sonic 2 or 3 was KICKASS. The fact that when you tried it with one they had the gang telling you no was even KICKASSER.

 

I picked Sonic, but I knew it wouldn't be close regardless.

Mario was in a hilarious Robot Chicken skit.

 

Mario has 4 RPGs.

 

Mario has a game where you can yank on and contort his face at the title screen.

 

Mario briefly had a heel turn.

 

Sonic can run fast, but Mario is overall a more well-rounded athlete.

 

Sonic can't throw his evil nemesis hella far like Mario can.

Well as a character, I prefer sonic and IMO nothing beats Sonic and Knuckles locked on with Sonic 3. However, Mario is by far more consistant in his games, and wins in the better game department.

 

I still can't see why Sonic Team are failing to make the sonic game that everybody wants, none of this "Sonic and his new side kick chester the yummynut squirrel" shit or Shadow packing a firearm.

Hmm...it's going to be hard for me to vote on this, as I like both game series.

 

I'll just do a null vote.

 

Oh, and here's something in Sonic's favor over Mario: Sonic's more recent games have a...more in depth story (to an extent) than the Mario games.

 

Plus, at least Sonic can talk in full sentances in his games, not the short phrases like Mario does in Mario 64, Sunshine, and a few others.

 

...so, that's in favor of Sonic.

 

Oh, and for the people who care about the cartoons, there's 4 series and one OVA of Sonic.

 

"The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog": The weekday show. Just Sonic and Tails for the heroes. Grounder and the monkey were the only robots from the games in the show. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine made based on this series

 

"Sonic The Hedgehog": The Saturday morning TV show based off of the Archie comics. NO robots from the games in it...plus a bunch of characters not from the games (Sally, Bunnie, et al).

 

"Sonic OVA": Made in Japan...an anime movie that came out sometime after Sonic 3 (As Knuckles is in it). ...it's strange, but it also has the first animated appearance of Metal Sonic.

 

"Sonic Underground": Suppossedly to some a prequel to the Saturday morning Sonic series. The less said about this the better...but it did have Knuckles in it for one ep.

 

"Sonic X": Recent anime series that I THINK was made by Sonic Team. More closely follows the games than the other series...has all the new characters up to Sonic Heroes or Battle in it (including furrie lovers' dream girl, Rouge.)

Although if you count his post-Rare makeovers, Donkey Kong Jr. (who's been in all the new DK games from DKC, with the "original," Cranky, retired), he's been flip-flopping from face to heel a lot.

He's Bowser. She's Peach.

 

"King Koopa" and "Princess Toadstool" are only their titles. But they were almost exclusively referred to as "King Koopa" and "Princess Toadstool" in the cartoon.

 

Basically, Bowser's king of the koopas (the turtles) but also has the allegiance of goombas, etc, while Peach is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and the Toadstool people.

That has never been made official by Nintendo themselves. I'm pretty sure that stems directly from the infamous Mario Bros. movie. It is generally accepted by Nintendo fans that their last name is Mario, though.

Both Mario and Sonic are lame. Mario's games are better but that's not saying much since the last decade of Sonic games have been garbage. Modern game characters are so much better than the old mascot style.
