'sides, not like Austin didn't do this with his Smoking Skull belt

I don't think you can compare Austin doing something to Cena. They also had a Rock version of the belt but scraped it around the same time as the Smoking Skull belt.

I don't think the WWE Championship looks that bad, granted, I always liked the World Heavyweight title design better but the WWE title isn't terrible. the design makes the title holder look like a big deal. it has a "royalty" design to it which makes it look important. also, the SD! WWE title is actually bigger than all the other version of the WWE Championship in the past which I like. I didn't like how the Intercontinetal Title was bigger than the WWF title back than.

Nitpick: why does everyone always call the past WWF title the "Winged Eagle" belt. Has anyone ever seen an eagle without wings?

Nitpick #2: The current WWE title has a "winged eagle" on it to.

I don't think the IC belt was ever actually bigger then the world title, was it? I mean, it was bigger then it is now, but I don't think it was bigger then the WWF belt.

Anyway, I think he should wear the '95 title belt.

I think the Box IC title was bigger than the Winged Eagle belt physically, but I could be wrong about that.

All I've heard from sources is that it's going to be "very similar to the Word Life US Belt", so that's how I made the assumption. I haven't started anything on replicas yet, have to wait for the actual model to debut.

I've read he's going to put the chain gang symbol on it...and probably make it glow.

Brilliant. The belt needs neons. That'd actually be cool for a few weeks.

That, and a removable faceplate so thugs won't "gank his bling."

Hell, maybe Cena could just order that "Bling It Up" garbage from those late night infomercials. Cheap, effective, and mother approved!

I was serious about the first line in this post.

Hey... that actually looks pretty cool.

One of the things I liked about Cena's speech last week on Smackdown was how he addressed the "wrestling traditionalists" & how he was gonna modify the WWE title like he did the U.S. belt. Like what somebody else said above, it sounded like he was talking to the IWC(ie. all you nitpicky ass smarks). Not to start a mark vs. smark argument but I'm glad they're giving Cena a custom title mainly because it'll piss off these so called "wrestling traditionalists". More power to Cena for bringing hip-hop to wrestling.

That belt is certainly going to stand out. If not for the spinning center plate, and the WWE logo being so huge, it wouldn't look TOO much unlike a normal title. I wonder how long until the replica belt websites start selling this?

I personally think it's OK. I didn't mind the US title-spinner though, either. While the belt should be treated with some respect, it's also just the "prop" which signifies the championship - and if that "prop" assists Cena in getting over, and means increased merchandise sales via replica belts, t-shirts, and such, then it's been a good thing. And as long as the championship is still being viewed as THE important, main-event storyline and not just a mid-card angle, then I'm OK with it. You can have the shittiest looking belt in the world, and if two (or multiple) guys are in a powerful, intense angle for that shitty-looking belt, then it's automatically going to gain attention. And in retrospect, you can take a classic, highly-regarded belt such as the "Big Gold" WCW title, and completely desecrate it by putting it on David Arquette, Vince Russo, and so forth.

Therefore, it's not the belt, or what it looks like, it's the storyline behind it that makes it special - no matter what form said belt takes.

God, that last sentence almost sounded like some sort of After School Special or something.

On the contrary, I treat the BGB as more important since it's pretty much retained the same look and lineage (LET'S NOT GET INTO IT I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU) over the years, whereas the WWE title keeps changing the belt and sort of cheapening it. Think of if the Stanley Cup kept getting replaced with progressively weirder and less prestigious trophies. Would it mean the same thing?

There's a bad thing about the look and lineage though.

It had people like Arquette and Russo behind it.

Yeah but I just shake my head and sigh about Arquette. I don't even remember Russo winning it.

Russo won it in a cage match with Booker (maybe others, don't remember) when Goldberg speared him through the cage to the arena floor.

It was in New York too, IIRC.
