Molly Holly released

Recommended Posts

Hm. McCool's the only one of the Diva Search/Winners/Losers/Drawers/Drawer-Droppers that I can stand.

Guess she's in for a few heapin' bags of JBL poo.

so they release Gail Kim, Jaqueline, JAzz, Molly.....i'm sure Victoria soon. Yet they keep someone like Stacy Keibler that can't do shit. Can't wrestle, can't cut a promo, can't act, can't even fuckin be a guest ring announcer

Makes a lot of sense

Keibler's popular wank material. Sells lots of mags and stuff. Been mentioned.

WWE doesn't consider any of the others to be. Well, Gail could have been, and certainly the Divas could use more variety, but they didn't really try much.

I remember once reading a story about how Molly would sometimes help out the guys who set up the ring, and would help them carry equipment, etc. If the state of women's wrestling both here and in Japan is really that bad, I wonder if this means that she's retiring from wrestling altogether. I hope she manages to find something--I always liked her.

What were the nice things Goldberg said about Molly?

It was a name association and when Molly's name was brought up, he said something like "the sweetest person I have ever met."

This is it here:

MOLLY HOLLY

"There’s always a special place in my heart for Molly. She wrote me a very inspirational letter near the end of WCW, and I still travel with that letter today. I just love her!"

Also, the article about her helping out the ring crew from the Observer:

Ben Miller talks about Molly Holly

FIRST LADY OF WRESTLING

by Ben Miller

[email protected]

With the myriad changes in the professional wrestling business over the

past ten years, no segment has changed as rapidly or as frequently as

the role of female wrestlers. Once a realm of somewhat legitimate

competition with the likes of Madusa atop the American women’s ranks,

women’s wrestling has increased the required skill level dramatically

while adding unbelievable aesthetic standards heretofore reserved for

only the likes of strippers and centerfolds.

From the late-90’s detour of featuring largely unskilled beauties to

the Fit Finlay-led movement towards quality in the last couple years,

adjusting to the changes and staying atop women’s wrestling has proven

difficult. While Sable has returned to provide a link to the past, the

rest of the WWE women are either well below superstar level or have

only made it to the top since wrestling began its downslide in the

early part of this decade.

Molly is an exception. First seen as on a nationwide basis as Mona, an

appendage to help Randy Savage’s mid-life crisis character get over in

1999, Molly has been the gold standard in solid women’s wrestling from

the moment she burst on the scene. As fitness models, grungey sex

kittens and leggy girl-next-doors have gotten over with varying degrees

of success, Molly has been the glue holding high level women’s

wrestling together. Not only does she grasp the essentials of putting

together a solid wrestling match, but she also gives a yeomen effort in

getting over angles ranging from inane to... well, slightly less inane.

Molly’s recent head shaving was a prime example. The hair stipulation

has been grossly devalued in recent years, and for good reason.

Examples like Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash, where hair stip losers

merely underwent a stylish trim, have not only robbed the hair matches

of their ability to draw, but they have also been an insult to the

business. It’s hard enough to draw money with today’s more

knowledgeable audience, and doing things the wrong way causes far

deeper damage than just the disappointment felt on a single night.

Whether it is having her head shaved or playing a fat-ass in a role

that would send most women to therapy, Molly has always been a team

player. In the author’s brief time as a UPW production crew worker,

Molly was by far the most gracious and helpful WWE wrestler to pass

through the Galaxy Theater. When she started giving unsolicited help

to the ring crew she just about drew a marriage proposal from a fellow

production crew member who couldn’t believe that a person who paid

their dues would have such a humble attitude and such respect for the

business.

It is true that carrying a few steel support beams that night secured

Molly’s place in the author’s often cold wrestling heart. Though it

was only a single event, the time since has proven without question

that Molly’s aptitude and respect for the business is matched by only a

select few. She may never appear in Playboy and she may never be a

national sex symbol in Canada, but Molly has something greater to be

proud of. For the first time in decades there is an American woman

truly deserving of the title, “The First Lady of Wrestling.”

I'm really pissed about Molly leaving, but good for her if she left on her own terms. As a fan since her Starla Saxton days, I really hope she does well in the future.

Honestly, of all the divas they released, the one I'd most like to see back is Jazz. She was a tremendous heel, and could actually make the division mean something without being eye candy. The feud she had with Trish was probably the peak of women's wrestling in North America.

Throughout 2002, WWE might just have had the best women's division in the company's history. They seemed to want to build some credibility for the Women's title by having actual wrestlers competing for it on Raw and leaving the Gravy Bowl diva matches for Smackdown.

And yet, now, with the release of Molly, they've completed their infantile regression back to eye candy being the only ones allowed to 'contend' for the title. I understand that the Women's title will never be a major part of WWE programming (nor should it, really), but I really don't see how they can have made such a complete turnaround in just two and a bit years.

I hope this at least works out in Molly's favour somehow when all's said and done.

I kinda thought Steph vs. Trish was the best.

I haven't seen a better Women's match since NWO 2001 in the US.

You've got to be kidding.

Jesus and Matt got the axe injured, so I wouldn't be suprised to see Richards go.

Aye. He must have been doing something right to last this long tho, I mean, hasn't it been 7 years now? Respect.

Jazz being given the axe last year could be credited to her being injure prone (injured at least every 3 months), and not getting over with her 2 spot moveset.

PWI just said that one of the main reasons she quit was because she hated being a heel and wanted to turn face badly. Management told her she wouldn't be believable in the role and that was the last straw. I'm assuming she wanted the face turn so her character would be treated better (no fat ass or prude stuff) and probably because she thought she would do less jobs as a face.

Funny, when Molly Holly came out with Trish the other day, I was thinking to myself that it's about time Molly turned face and went up against a heel Trish. I mean there is no way that WOULDN'T work. Molly would be such a sympathetic character, and Trish is such an outstanding heel. It has nothing to do with looks, it's about the character the fans will get behind. Aside from Lita (which we've seen at least 388332 times), there is no one currently on the roster that can have a long-term feud with Trish and make it work.

This is definitely a disappointment..Molly was such a great performer who was never treated right. Good luck to her.

Are they kidding? I thought Molly was great as a face when she debuted. Espically with that Girl next door vibe that she had.

Is Richards really gonna be out for long? I just thought he was gonna be out for a week or two. Jesus and Matt had long term injuries.

Kinda funny how Jesus had a total of 3 televised matches and never threw an offensive move in any of them (One was the match with Haas which never got started because he knocked him out with Cena's chain, next being the street fight with Haas having the same result, and the third being the Armegeddon match where Cena completley squashes him.)

I think seeing as the women's division is pretty much dead Trish's charisma and promo skills should be used to elevate someone by association. Such as Shelton.

Well, Christy seems to be trying, but even if she does improve, it's not going to be enough to save the womens division. (Wouldn't it be ironic if she actually does get better, only to be released. I know that Christy getting released is pretty unlikely right now, but still...)

Dammit, they are so clueless. Not believeable? Ever since her heel turn I thought she'd have a tough time being a believable HEEL. They always say their characters are themselves turned all the way up, well with Molly she'd be the perfect face. Hell, color her hair blonde and let her talk like herself, she could easily be a natural face as she was back in 2000-2001. What a damn shame.
