landy1987 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 http://www.silvervision.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=WWE1119 This is a 2-disc set. History's most feared tag team returns... They "snacked on danger, and dined on death" for two decades, dominating professional wrestling and immortalizing themselves as the only team ever to hold all three major titles (NWA(WCW), AWA, WWE). Hawk and Animal, better known as The Legion of Doom, rampaged through the AWA, NWA, All Japan Pro Wrestling, WCW and WWE. In this DVD, the stunning journey unfolds, from their auspicious debut in the early 1980s to the tragic death of Michael "Hawk" Hegstrand in 2003. nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 re: the Powers of Pain. I'm surprised they didn't show the weightlifting challenge where Animal had his orbital bone broken. But, the payoff to that was that horrid barbed wire match featuring Dusty, so maybe they didn't show if because of that. I also wouldn't have minded seeing them turn on Dusty & Sting, with the infamous spike incident and then the turning on Sting in the 6-man tag match later. Even without those things, though, this DVD set is a must buy.

Still, the set looks great for the most part. Lots of historical moments and some good wrestling too (relatively speaking). Jason

Jason I know the Royal Rumble and DX matches are stinkers, and the GCW one (IIRC) is a singles tournament that both Animal and Hawk took part in. Therefore, you may in fact be right. I'm not sure if they wrestled on the TV dates. I could've lived without the WWF stuff (there's nothing notable of theirs at all from their runs there that I can recall) but the old school stuff on DVD will be fun. Some Guy 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 What nothing against the Steiners or Powers of Pain? I think they wrestled the Steiners on Nitro in 96 once and that was about it. They may not have even had a match. LOD came back to WCW in early 96 gunning for the Steiners but then disapeared pretty quickly. I know they worked against Sting and Booker at Uncensored 96 and were part of Slamboree's Battlebowl. I'm really suprised that there isn't more WWF footage. I figured they would foresake a lot of AWA stuff in favor of a bunch of WWF squash matches. But, maybe they are learning from hoe badly they botched the nWo DVD. Nearly half of the main feature was WWF stuff and they only had Feb through March 2002 on the disc. They glossed over 4 years of the angles to devote half the disc to 2 months. Guest Lawlerm Report post Posted April 15, 2005 Should be good. Haven't seen a huge amount of old school Road Warriors stuff but this DVD might be a bit much. I mean the majority of the maches will be fairly similar i'd imagine, no?

Some Guy 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 I'd bet that they'll insert the "Oh What a Rush!" WWF theme into all the matches, unless they have access to the song that Russo used in WCW.

Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 I'm super psyched for this set...I was always a big Road Warriors mark, even though I never really got to see them until they came to WWF as the LOD (I knew who they were from Apter mags I had seen at my friend's house, etc). It's too bad there aren't any teams like that in wrestling anymore. I think the face-painted tough guy tag team concept is due for a comeback, honestly. I mean, either RAW or Smackdown could benefit hugely from a team like that.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 They would probably be panned as two talentedless hosses though if they went through w/ a rehash of a similiar gimmick.

It's too bad there aren't any teams like that in wrestling anymore. I think the face-painted tough guy tag team concept is due for a comeback, honestly. I mean, either RAW or Smackdown could benefit hugely from a team like that. The gimmick is way too dated. It is based on a movie that came out in the late 70s/early 80s. People got sick of their act by 97 and WWF tried to update it with LOD 2000 which basically meant that Hawk went back to his original face paint, Animal wore short tights, and Sunny managed them. That type of gimmick wouldn't work, regardless of whether people saw it as a rip off or not, it wouldn't work because it is dated. Gimmicks like The Midnight Express would work, but LOD/Demolition/Powers of Pain type gimmicks are played out and old. Their time has passed, it happens to all gimmicks that are based on pop culture rather than constants in personalities. Flair, Rock, and Austin would work at anytime, Hogan, LOD, Sting, and Warrior were products of their generation.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2005 ^^^ Agreed w/ everything except the Sting observation. Regardless of his gimmick at the time, he could connect w/ fans w/o silly catchphrases and overboard threats like few other.

Here's hoping that one or more of the War Games matches are released on a Four Horsemen 2 or 3-disc set in the forseeable future. I can at least hope, can't I?
