To add, if this is real, I hear about shit like this all the time, although it's never race motivated. But just because it is not race motivated doesn't mean that it shouldn't be stopped or get any attention, which it doesn't as I never see it on the news or read stories in the paper/on the net.

Black-on-white crime, in spite of the total lack of "hate crime" prosecutions, is not exactly a RARE occurence.

I searched Fox News, CNN, and even Drudge's archives, and didn't find a single mention of this. The only report of it, at all, is in a small weekly newsletter-type paper for that local Marine Park area. You check out that website? It's incredibly small-time.

 

If it happened, yes, it's an obvious illustration of the problems that make hate crime laws touchy, so I guess it functions well in the abstract. But the tiniest amount of research indicates that no substantial news outlet of any degree has picked up this story. An non-existent, exaggerated straw man? Looks like.

Regardless of whether this happened or not, it does show the hypocracy by those who ramble about how there's no hate crime.

 

If someone shouted "Allah Ackbar!" before blowing up a restaurant, there would be a whole additional set of laws, punishments, investigational tools, etc that open up thanks to anti-terrorism law.

 

However, if what was shouted was (race here) Power!, then it's just treated like a regular crime.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that seems to be the argument. Actually, I do think hate crime should be legislated (regardless of race), because generally speaking if somebody commits a hate crime, they are at very high risk to do it again. There is more of a motive there.

1. So do we have any confirmation on whether this actually happened or not? It is possible that the story could've been accidentally ignored (which does happen sometimes) or that it could've been selectively covered up by The Evil Biased Liberal Media (which does also happen sometimes) but it seems like a story like this would indeed be big news.

The St. Edmund girls were bleeding and beaten to the point where they had cuts, scrapes, footprints and dirt all over them - and the attackers surrounded her car and started pounding on the windows as Debbie tried to herd the terrified children into her vehicle.

 

Two girls were hospitalized - one with a broken nose and one with a head injury, according to Edith, the mother of another girl.

3. This is the main detail that makes me question the story's veracity. So, an enraged mob of 30 people viciously beat on these girls for several minutes, including apparently dragging one all the way down the street by their hair... and the ONLY real injuries they suffered were one broken nose and one concussion? Come on. I've seen worse injuries occur in worked wrestling matches that lasted under a minute. If 30 people beat the living shit out of you, you're gonna show more physical damage than that. Even if the attack did happen, then this paper is clearly exaggerating the severity of it.

You missed my point, I meant that I hear shit about this happening all the time, as in the gang violence and people being outnumbered and getting beat up. Of course, *those cases* are not racially motivated, and even though sometimes worse than what happened in this piece of racist propaganda, since it is not race-motivated it gets no play on the media and such.
